Dealer is going to help in more ways than one. Not only will they let you know what should be replaced, because it may fail in the next 10 years... But they will make your boat sit higher in the water due to your wallet being lighter.

I had the same reaction to this nonsense comment. Of course he's trying to take your money, and I'm okay with that as long as he provides me with service of equivalent value. This comment goes down in the books as typical ridiculous hype.

I asked my mechanic for a ball park figure for a service and to put the transom right, after water started leaking through it. He refused to give a figure, but repeatedly assured me that it wouldn’t be anything steep. $5589 later 😳 It was probably worth the job done, but I’ll have to keep this guy’s spectrum of ‘ not steep’ in mind on future work.

There is absolutely no reason whatsoever that a boat owner should not be able to preform these services on their own. A little bit of knowledge and elbow grease will save you thousands in Labor charges over the years.

If you want a boat with one of these drives you have 2 choices = 1. You will spend a lot of time & work on it (which I enjoy) OR 2. You will spend a lot of $$ on it. 3. would be some combination of the first 2.

Getting an appointment to get a dealer to do this, let alone the cost, makes 'yearly' very difficult. Is it necessary to do yearly rather than go by a certain number of hours?

Hello Boys. Nice channel. The ailment on my 2000 Sea Ray with the 3.0 Litre Mercruiser with power steering is slowly consistently going left and right in forward under low speed plane. 20 degrees left then 20 left over and over. You can point it straight, then there it goes. Is it in the rudder? I just replaced it and it has not been calibrated yet.

THE DEALER IS NOT TRYING TO TAKE YOUR MONEY. HE IS REALLY DOING YOU A FAVOR. What a complete joke this guy is. 100% DIY and marina mechanics are opportunistic scavengers (with very few exemptions)....It is part replacement with some tools that help along the way. No fabrication or skills required.
