I don't think linux will ever become mainstream on mobile. As u said there're two big problems 1. Hardware based i.e driver support (which again seek heft sums) 2. Software based: donation/subscription is must without it data selling would be only option as an revenue (will it work 🙄??) Community will required centralised authority to establish coordination, set common goal and pushed everyone towards it (is it even possible 🙄??) There's another problem, how hell we can replace Google services?? (Very big problem, isn't it??)
