Hi! I love mothwing. She has so much character development!!! I also love how she is best friends with leaf pool. (Or if you ship them instead I like that too.) I also hated/loved the part where when Hawkfrost attacked the RC nursery, and didn’t care about mothwing. It was so sad.

I love how Mothwing learns from her own life and doesn't repeat the mistakes she and others made. Mudfur didn't allow her to foster her own beliefs - it was always StarClan this, StarClan that. In so many sequels (Disney, to be exact: Ariel in The Little Mermaid 2 and Simba in all the sequels), the main character of the previous is a mentor or a parent to the protagonist, and they spend the entire film not learning from their own lives and repeating their life's mistakes. Mothwing, on the other hand, allows Willowshine to foster her own belief in StarClan - even though Mothwing doesn't believe in them, Willowshine is allowed to decide for herself whether or not she will believe in them or not.

I don't think atheism makes sense in the Clans due to the Great Battle where there's an actual fight between dead cats and living cats. It doesn't make sense. Whereas it makes sense in human culture, because there's no actual evidence of higher powers or a place spirits go. The Clans have StarClan and the belief in StarClan makes more sense than the lack of. And I'm not religious.

Rayven Goodman I mean, you can believe in something’s existence and not believe IN it at the same time. While Starclan exists, it’s clear that they have a few problems and have made questionable decisions. I guess reworded, it would be cool to see more cats who recognize Starclan’s existence while not believing in them as these all-powerful always-right figures at the same time. Maybe even have a few that believe certain aspects of the code are utter bull but follow along in fear of getting kicked of their clan, them having said fear because they’ve made some very close connections along the way. Or have a highly respected “doubter” warrior in one clan finally snap and leave, forcing others to question Starclan’s morals.

DatArtisticYoshi I haven’t read Mothwing’s Secret? but I heard she finds out StarClan exists, but decides they aren’t as wise and just as everyone thought and that’s fine, but if she were to ignore the fact StarClan exists then she would have been just plain ignorant. She’s proven she doesn’t need their guidance to be a great medicine cat, but she believed they didn’t exist at all until the Great Battle which any cat after the battle that still refused to believe StarClan exists wouldn’t have made sense is what I’m saying.

Rayven Goodman Gotcha, and I definitely agree with you. It’s perfectly fine to make a fictional religion in a story and have an atheist character in said story, but the whole point of religion is that it’s supernatural, something that can’t really be explained via physics or science in our world, something that can only really be believed in with faith at the core. When your book series heavily relies on the supernatural and proves it’s coexistence with the world multiple times (witnessing a medicine cat visiting there via their point of view, every leader actively seeing and interacting with their dead ancestors when they receive their nine lives or die, the fact that leaders die and actually come back to life, and of course, the Great Battle’s existence) all of a sudden the religion isn’t just faith-based anymore, it’s an actual fact. And so you just end up getting really frustrated at the atheist character because now denying the supernatural’s existence is blatant ignorance in the context of the story’s world. The only saving grace to Starclan’s proven existence, though I feel this topic hasn’t been touched on enough in the books, is the fact that while the ancestors exist, they are just as flawed as they were in life, nowhere close to being enlightened, and because of that they let a lot of bad things happen. Heck, they actively shut Mothwing out, if I’m right (I actually haven’t read the book either lol). That could’ve and should’ve been the main reason why Mothwing had her doubts, she should’ve been doubting the necessity of Starclan rather than its existence as whole. Sorry for writing an essay, I just really like talking about these things.

Deputy: Missingeye: Dark reddish brown tabby with one eye. Medicine Cat: Muffin: Silver tabby with dark gray stripes and pale gray underbelly. Eyes are green. Former kittypet. Warriors Rattoe: Black tom with amber eyes. Missing one toe on back right paw from rats. Apprentice: Dovepaw Fernwhisker: Tortiseshell she-cat with blue eyes and thick whiskers. Beestripe: Blonde tom with black tabby stripes wrapping around him. Gray-Blue eyes. Scartail: Brown she-cat with green eyes. Has spots of darker and lighter brown covering her. Tail nothing more than a scarred, jagged stump. Apprentice: Goldenpaw Pebbledrop: Dark smoky gray tom with herb-green eyes. Has very strong sense of hearing.
