The hardest part of your wealth building journey will be reaching your first $100,000 because it takes patience, discipline, and sacrifice; however, once you reach your first $100,000, you net worth really starts to speed up and wealth building becomes easier. In this video I explain why your net worth explodes after reaching $100,000.
1. The Power of Scale
The #1 principle of money is that "money makes money." The more money you have, the quicker it'll grow. For example, the stock market returns an average of 10% a year, so the more you have invested the bigger your returns will be. Once you reach $100,000, you have scale where your returns are a substantial amount.
2. The Magic of Compound Interest
Wealth does not grow linear, but it grows exponentially due to something called, "Compound Interest," which is “Interest from both principal sum and previous interest gained.” Once you reach $100,000, compound interest really starts to take off and speed up the process where reaching the next $100,000 takes less time.
3. Making Money Starts To Go From Active to Passive
Most people make their money in a very active way through their labor; however, once you reach $100,000 and have a decent amount invested, a substantial amount of money you make each year is now passive. This allows you to build wealth at a much quicker rate since your income isn't determined on your actively making it.
4. The Power of Margin
In addition to money making money. Money also gives you margin, which is a buffer between you and being broke. Margin gives you time, which ultimately gives you options. Once you reach $100,000, you have more options in life and can seek better opportunities in life where you're making more money.
5. The Mastery Of Money Skills
Getting to $100,000 takes a lot of time and is a journey. On that journey, you learn to master many money skills. Once you reach $100,000 you more than likely have a good understanding of many skills that allow you to build your net worth.
6. The Ability to Increase Investment Amount
More than likely, once you reach $100,000, you have a completed emergency fund. Once you have completed your emergency fund, it opens up more room to invest more money where you can build your wealth at a quicker pace.
7. The Ability to Breathe More
When it comes to feeling secure in life, $100,000 is that magic number that allows you to breathe a bit more. You still have problems, but do not view money as scarce anymore. This allows you to focus on continuing to build wealth with a clear mind.

The S&P 500 moved 8.9% higher last Month, achieving one of its best monthly performances in history.. which is an indicator for profits to continue to improve. De-risk your portfolios, shore up your core holdings, and take some profits while balancing your portfolio allocations. I’d also suggest you go with a managed portfolio, but even those don’t perform so well, so it’s best you reach out to a fiduciary financial advisor to guide you, that’s what works for my wife and I. It's been 6 years now and we've grown our portfolio to $1m.

It's a common misconception that when a stock you buy skyrockets, the smart thing to do is sell it (or at least sell some of it) to lock in your profits. But the context matters. If the stock has increased sharply because the business is performing exceptionally well, it could still be a bargain. I'm still looking for companies to make additions to my $350K portfolio, to boost performance. Here for ideas...

Nice. People often underestimate financial advisors' importance. Over 50 years of data reveal that those who work with advisors typically earn more than those who go it alone. I've been fortunate to work with one for 13 years, resulting in a $1 million portfolio, largely from early investments in AI and other growth stocks.

Effective personal finance management is more important than the amount of money saved, regardless of whether income is earned through job or investment. I agree, that's the more reason I prefer my day to day investment decisions being guided by an advisor, seeing that their entire skillset is built around going long and short at the same time both employing risk for its asymmetrical upside and laying off risk as a hedge against the inevitable downward turns, coupled with the exclusive information/analysis they have, it's near impossible to not out-perform, been using my advisor for over 2years+ and I've netted over 2.8million.

Starting in 2019 the s&p 500 market returns were 2019 31.21%, 2020 18%, 2021 28.47%, 2022 -18%, 2023 26.06%. Those are abnormally high returns. The average market returns over 50 or 60 years is 10%. The average market returns from 2019 to 2023 was 17.15%. If you had a significant amount of money invested in 2019 the market returns skyrocketed your portfolio. Additionally the 1st quarter returns of 2024 were really good. Then you add in the fact that additional employee contributions to the 401k were being made as well as likely employer matches and there you go. It was mostly the average market returns of 17.148% though. That's not normal.

This is true, took me from 1985-1996 to build my first $100K, things happen and went back down to zero several times but kept trying and 1996 had my first $100K, wanted to spend it but didn't, reached $1 million in 2010. I am retired, living off interest but since 2019 have been stuck at $2.4 million, change in market values due to interest rate rise, inflation, and my stock picks haven't done that well but I have covered expenses and taxes, just can't seem to get my balance to move up. Making $170k in interest + Social Security this year but so far investment balance hasn't moved this year either.

10% a year is without considering inflation. 7/8% return is average inflation adjusted

sorry for the question / correction. what you explain us, is not to make passive incomes, it is investment, because as you said, we keep every incomes to the same basket, so that will grow. we cannot live with this incomes every year.

Those that have a 401k match should utilize it to it's fullest capacity, and then some.

Here's another thing for why the $100k rule and the implications of it. The cost of living is relatively similar between regular millionaires and downlow people. That means, if you have less than $100k, the amount you can afford to consistently invest is practically 0 since anything can happen at anytime. But if you have more than $100k, the amount of thing you can invest become much much more consistent. With that being said, inflation will drive the $100k bench mark higher and higher in the future

It only took me a few years to hit 100k. I just had no interest in really spending money after I got my first career job. Didn't really spend much money, bought a car for like 9,000$ cash out of college, bought a fixer upper house that I've just been renovating myself. Most of my money is in a post-tax brokerage, then just maxing out the Roth IRA and then employer match just to get some 401K contributions in and have all three buckets balanced once I actually retire. Gives me a lot of tax strategy options by having all three buckets and I like having post-tax dollars in a brokerage account as I know 100k post-tax is much more valuable than 100k in a 401k.

a 50% loss requires 100% gains to recover. A couple of bad years when you reach 100k will wipe you out just as likely as outsized returns.

It's sad how difficult things have become in the present generation. I was wondering how to utilise some money I had. I used some of it for e-commerce business, but that sank. I'm thinking of how to use what's left to invest, but I don't really know which way to go.

Yeah, things may be hard right now, but I've come to realize both bear and bull market, recessions and economic boom, all provide opportunities to make high gains, I used to call bluff on folks that bragged about making a fortune from such down-markets until I happened to do so myself

I agree. I've been working with a financial advisor since 2020, and I return up to 15k every month, and I don't even have to lift a finger. Although I also think the reason I make this much is because I started with significant capital.

This caught my interest. I worry that I have a couple more months before retirement, and I want to switch to using a financial advisor, but I don’t really know how to find one.
