The issue i see when you’re talking about the gameboy was games were easy to develop for it, having Tetris just made everyone want to buy one on release. Then having pokemon blow up like it did at the end of it life gave it a second life when they decided to release the GBC.

Well I understand that viewpoints logistically it just doesn't make sense especially since Nvidia has discontinued the chip sets and processors used in the switch with Nintendo scooping up the last of the stock if I recall correctly that chipset goes back 2012-2013 restarting that production line won't be economically viable especially when newer technologies can provide better performance even if they're reaching the same target goal of graphical or computational output

Technically I think they could call the next one the "Nintendo 8." I'd buy that.

It's very unlikely the Switch would be called Switch 2 - that's never been Nintendo's deal. They always make some kinda creative name, with the Wii U and New 3DS being the only real stinkers.

Actually I still do think that they require a new switch. Either that or they need to make games that are less intensive on the system. The problem with the switch currently is that games such as tears of the Kingdom or pokémon are either not optimized or are struggling to run on the switch portably which is the whole entire point of the switch. The way I see it they don't have to be with the current generations. They could still be 1080p 120 hertz with a better processor and still sell it for the 350 that they sold the Nintendo switch OLED for. You're right, Nintendo doesn't need to be the most powerful generation, but it needs to be able to run its own games.

I see where you are coming from, but having Nintendo’s only system last for 11 years will make it seem boring to the consumer. Not making a new console after 8-9 years at most halts the progress of the industry. Sure, the 3DS sold like hot cakes, but they still needed to make the Switch to remain relevant.

Yeah the first Nintendo switch is underpowered requires you to have a a memory stick and sometimes the cloud as well to play any games. Not to mention the Terrible joycons and they pretty much ruined Pokemon because you literally have to jump through hoops to do anything online on the game

This is a completely different market and the Switch is an entirely different beast than the Gameboy. If the next console has backwards compatibility and all the same functionality - they're not eating their own lunch. They can slash the price on the OG Switch to make it a budget option for a year or two while everyone transitions over. There is no reason NOT to make a more powerful version of it.

Arlo has a lot of good points of why as much as you think the switch will last forever, the momentum is slowing down and the market is reaching hardware saturation. Unless they drop the price of the system it's not going to keep selling as strong. And as for unique versions of 3rd party titles companies don't want to and won't split their budgets to accommodate Nintendo like they used to. And finally. Nintendo refuses to drop prices on old switch games to this day. Nintendo also doesn't want to fall behind anymore than they are. This has been a great year for them sure. And I'd love to see them drop wind waker, twilight princess and the other two prime games on switch. But eventually they'll have to do something new hardware wise. And if prime 4 even comes to the switch at this point I'll just be disappointed it's not on more powerful console

You guys are nitpicky. While I agree that the GameBoy lasted 3 Generations long (the GameBoy Color is barely a separate platform, mind you), combined with how well the Nintendo Switch is selling (which would probably last for at least 10+ consecutive years, that's for sure), calling it the Switch 2 is nothing to be severely offended about, not saying that I think it would be a decent name either, but ranting about a numbered platform title sounds way nitpicky and a little over-excessive. I'm just saying, but i've got absolutely nothing against you guys. While I do agree that we Nintendo fans should stay happy with living the Nintendo Switch days, it definitely shouldn't be the permanent last console that Nintendo makes, considering the PlayStation 5 and XboxSeriesX/S both outweigh the power of Nintendo Switch, and future ideas for modern milking/gaming should never hurt to continue evolving even further. You guys are good people, you haven't done anything wrong, but I feelike that reaction was way over the top if you ask me, no doubt about it. Honestly? I don't think it needs a sequel, but the OLED isn't much of an upgrade since its just a bigger screen with vivid colours (which ngl I kinda like it), but I do kinda feel like it needs a pro version with the bigger screen

Funny enough if the switch could just be "upgraded" with a new dock it'd be a massive win for Nintendo, but this requieres a technological miracle to happen And tbh, I feel the biggest bottleneck is actually just the ram rather than the processor, most overclocks fix frame drops by upping the ram, and by today standards 4gb at 1300mhz is ANCIENT

Eh, i dont agree at all. The switch is laggy as hell and desperately needs a refresh. With handhelds such as the steam deck being out for so long, theres plenty of quality of life features to take insiration from. Going back to the switch after using other handhelds really makes it feel dated.

I agree switch 2 is an awful name, i dont agree that nintendo should stick with the switch. The switch is a 6 year old console that already had kinda older hardware in it. If nintendo seeks more sales there not gonna get it. If nintendo seeks to make even more expansive worlds in their games their gonna have to settle or suffer major loss of fps. If nintendo wants to succeed, they need to improve their hardware. Whether it's a sequel to the switch or a fresh start they need something new to thrive. Edit: the joy-cons need to be improved as well.

You have a good poin,t and your 100% about switch 2 being a dumb name. But how did we get the switch. They moved on form the wii u. And if you take the point that it sold poorly then how did we get the wii u, They moved on form the wii and so forth. We would have never got the switch if they just kept to the same console. The best Nintendo consoles of all time could never release if they stuck with the switch forever and the switch will feel boring. It's not the power that's the problem it's how long sense something new to sake things up. Especially were Nintendo is the company that make the innovative consoles.
