You forgot to mention one of her most important problems: As soon as she gets slowed she is not a champion anymore. Due to her unique passive she not only loses mobility - she also loses attackspeed (since an attack is done inbetween dashes and dashes have a longer windup when slowed). As of right now almost every champion in the league either has a slow or builds an item that has a slow

TL;DR: Playing Kalista is a chore. As a Kalista main I can confirm that every ADC main wants to be the MVP and she has the unique playstyle that allows the outplays for that to happen. But you can do an even better job with half the effort by using literally every single other ADC. She is a champion that requires perfection, full concentration, a clear mind to have good decision making and fast reaction speed for the entire game. This makes Kalista to feel like she is a project with a tight deadline.

(Long comment from a Kalista main) I'm a Kalista main since season 6. When I decided to pick her up I was still pretty bad at the game but what attracted me to her was her insane kiting passive. That constant movement while attacking was really satisfying for me and I gave it enough time to master it. Also the theme of placing your trust to someone in order to use your R and utilize a little synergy (W mark passive) felt appealing to me. Kalista is broken indeed, if she had similar power to other adcs she'd be too op. So to compensate she got really high damage tools and utility for the team. She can be played top using only 2 of her abilities (Q,E) and still be sucessful. Her Pierce passing stacks of spears is an extremely hard mechanic to utilize and it took me years to even make consistent use of it. Passing stacks from a minion/monster is simpler now but from champion to champion is very rare to happen. I have no trouble calculating my Rend damage and the fact that it's hard to stack more than 10-20 spears is false, against a tank as long as you're positioning correctly with your team you'll stack as many spears as needed to kill anyone. My perspective is when someone goes to 30% hp or less they'll probably die, the factors being their armor/hp and how many spears I stacked on them. I grew to really hate slows due to her movement/atk speed passive being affected by it. A change I'd like would be her distance dashed to be reduced when slowed instead of messing up her attack speed as a whole. Overall Kalista is generally weak due to having such insane tools which give her a very strong early-mid game alone. Despite all that I found success and enjoyment from her and she'll always remain as my number 1 pick. I wish they treated her new Marauder skin better and changed the colors of the spears on chromas, that's a big letdown for all of the Kalista players.

I love Kalista's way of changing how her basic attack works. I find adcs who do that uniquely are better designed overall tbh.

it feels like stridebreaker was literally meant to counter kalista, you could be a 7/2 kali with 3 items but if you get hit by the 0/6 darius' strikebreaker its lights out.

There's another big think you forgot to mention about her, because her movement and her attacks are tied into each other in combat, slows and attack speed slows do the same thing. So you are essentially getting double debuffed every single time one of those hits you.

Tried her a few weeks ago. Seemed pretty damn fun. Gotta buy her now that her BE price got lowered with Viego's release.

I just picked her up today after my friend convinced me to give her a try after expressing interest in her, and ya she's hard, but she's also the most fun I've had on an ADC in a long time. She can get away some some nutty stuff in lane. I have comms with my duo who supports me and my kalista with her aggressive support style turned out to be an incredible combination. She's just so fun to play and fight with in lane. I've only played a few games on her so far but I think I'm gonna make her my main ADC when I duo, she's just so damn fun.

I started playing kalista about a month ago and she is one of my favorite adc's. I love the way she can outplay people and I feel that I can master her. It's a challenge that I'm willing to take and a champion I enjoy.

I played a lot of lesser played champions because it seems like they always teach you something that you can use later on; Lillia taught me how to dodge and kite. Zilean taught me how to measure risks and to check items bought. Teemo taught me setup and positioning. And now Kalista shall teach me how to use the Attack-Move command. Wish me luck in my coming loss streak.

I remember playing her once like 2 years ago and not even considering her since but this video has reawakened the idea as it reminded me that she is a very satisfying champ but just isn't strong enough especially on her own

not a kalista main per se, but ive played her a couple times and i really like playing her. i just decided to try her out one day because she was in the free rotation, and i just fell in love. her unique playstyle and kiting is very appealing to me, and her autoattacks feel good.

i think they should give her multiple uses of her starting spear, so she can choose to bind it onto a different ally later. it would make the dependency on the support a lot less in solo queue, and wouldn't make her too op because you couldn't change it quickly in a team fight because of the time it takes to bind to the ally.

In the right hands she can be a killer machine. I remember when she once carries her team in one of my games it was wild

I started to OTP kalista at the start of the new season ( a little before) , I like it, even if it s hard to play or win lane when your support doesn't know your champ...

I've been having moderate success with her in the jungle of all things. I was trolling at first but I may have found something. Early vision from your w is amazing in spotting out suspect enemy jungle positions and preventing ganks since people don't listen to your pings. You do 15% max hp if you're ganking your marked lane. You can also reposition your duo during team fights to get into the face of their squishies.

if everyone got mobility buffs- she's been getting hop nerfs since release. revert the backward hop nerf, and make slows a bit less punishing to her hops . nasus w just exhausts her, literally

I feel like a significant portion of what makes Kalista hard to improve on is how many decisions contribute to a single fight. On a champion like Swain for instance, it's really easy to analyze a fight and be like 'ok, I needed to hit e' or 'this fight is won as long as I flash jinx r'. Most champions in this game have a very small list of easily apparent (in hindsight) win conditions within skirmishes. Champions like Irelia are a bit more complicated, where each minion q can be thought of as a resource in a fight, and so deciding how best to use that resource adds to the skill expression of the champion, because each q represents a decision that is being made. With Kalista however, each and every single auto attack represents a decision being made. autoing away from an opponent gives you space, however by doing so you are opening yourself up to getting hit by skillshots, and autoing perpendicular to your opponent has the opposite trade off. Especially late game, your auto target also begins to matter, since autoing a minion can let you reset your e mid fight to slow the opponent and give you an edge, an incredibly important skill. You also need to be proficient in using your e reset along with your q while also paying attention to your hop. Every single auto attack on Kalista, especially late game, holds the same weight of micro-decision making that most champions input into a whole fight. Every fight you are making 10s, if not hundreds of small decisions that tip the scales one way or the other. The other issue has to do with rank. The vast majority of low elo (for the sake of argument, iron to mid gold) don't regularly use their auto attack move command, something that is basically mandatory to pull off the vast majority of the mechanics REQUIRED to make Kalista work. Using your e resets properly, q'ing the opponent on your e resets to buff the dmg and slow, getting the rhythm to jump in the right direction while doing so, and being able to harass your opponent using quick trades in lane, are all practically impossible to do consistently without using your auto attack command. High elo players generally use it, but by the time you reach high elo, the effort to go back and learn a champion with a completely different playstyle to the ones that got you to your elo in the first place, and one you will inevitably feed on for a little, is a heavy order. For those of us who pick her up in low elo, many players will have to learn to use their A-click before they really progress, and even then it will still be a bit of feeding before she becomes a reliable pick for the elo you are in. With all this being said I have always fundamentally disagreed with the assertion that Kalista is a weak champ, or one with balancing issues, because I've never really thought that was the case. She just has a demanding skill curve, and has specific difficulties that make picking her up hard to justify for most players, and while I love seeing new Kalista players, I don't think low playrates should ever fundamentally be seen as a problem. Kalista will probably always remain a champion that is a decent pick if you know what you're doing, but one that is hard to pick up and rare to see, and as a Kalista main myself I don't really have a problem with this. She is still strong in the right hands, and for those of us who absolutely adore a playstyle that gives you basically infinite micro-decisions to make, she is amazing to play. Unfortunately that means riot never gives us quality skins though lol TLDR: Kalista's playrate is so low because of the sheer number of micro-decisions made in fights, the necessity of auto attack commands, the necessity of understanding when you can use your rend and q to give you an advantage, and because riot gave us our first skin in literally years and it's one of the lowest quality skins they've put out in recent history. Also, I'm currently in high plat, and sitting at about 600k mastery, for those who are interested.

Change her w so it gives her a camouflage for a short duration like senna with out giving it to teamates that is, and not close to as long of an duration, enemys could see where you are, but not target you with out geting quite close (a bit longer then melee range) this would only last for 1,5-2 seconds and have lets say 15 second cooldown that resets on kills. she should be able to continue autoing with out get revealed while this effect is active. and they should make her autos follow into bushes.

tbh, I played kalista before they changed her W passive to damage instead of attack speed. It was nice to have some extra attack speed in the start of the game when near to your support that could also buff your autos like janna, lulu and others. Miss the good old first bloods with her ToT

Great video, some attention to the blue to the favorite blue balance nightmare in the game is always appreciated. Regarding ideas to maybe make her more easily balanced the make her Ult independent of ally presence and maybe change her W passive so that her ally slow her target instead off dealing more damage and maybe remove the "Attacks only scale with 90% AD" to make her damage more consistent

When I started playing league one of the first champions I played was kalista, and 3 years ago the internet in my country was very slow so I usually played alone in the ADC role, I usually only maxed e and q since my supports would leave a few minutes into the gane

An idea for Oathsworn is to make more flexible where she doesn't have to rely on one specific character to be next to her the whole time, or allow her to use any ally unit like a minion (I know it's a stretch but it could lead to interesting ideas), and give her some form of utility like a teleport or camoflauge.

I think one of the best changes that can be made to kalista without being super over powered is the fact that your W passive and ult can be used with anyone on your team and not just your Aly.

Kalista needs: Attack move that only targets champions and her oathsworn mechanic to be reworked out because fuck that. Her Passive and E are insanely fun for me to use and her Q is cool too, but it's so heavily bogged down ;(

The biggest issue is the insane attack speed slow when she is slowed. Not only does it reduce your mobility but with literally every champ having cc and slows now (items included) you’re not able to do damage if you can’t auto

I feel like an easy fix would be to have her also linked with her w so youd get the proc from it but also be able to ult with it

everytime I saw a new episode of this collection, I came up with a video in my mind, a super short version why no one play kalista: hopping is game breaking, she thus nerfed to ground.

You told it in this video there are only few people that use her R corrcly and the other ones put them selfs in such a bad position that makes lose the teamfight AND the game

Honestly, I think a good buff for her is to make her w dive toward enemies that use mobility and stun them. It would make it more powerful and if you let her proc her passive off summoning the sentinel it could offer counterplay to items like gale or stridebreaker

I was playing her since 9.15 until the end of s10 got almost a million mastery points and name Mia Kalista, she was a beautiful solo lane. But s11 removed Frozen Mallet and this is the only think that stopping me from playing her again.

Hello ! I'm a Kalista main since the champ has been introduced to the game. I love kalista for a kit for sure (even tho her kit makes it unbalancable). It gives an infinite amout of possibilities during fight. For example if you are forced to focus a fed tank because the backline has too many cc's or whatever situation where you are zoned : focusing the tank can be good as you can Q+E to potentially anhilate 1 person in the back line. To me there is a lot of way of building kalista to make it fun or adaptable to many teams and your skill is the limit (or cc's xd). To me Kalista feels like an unending challenge, you can always improve, a fight you've done could potentially have gone better if u stepped one time on the left at this specific time. I don't know if this helped you to understant why we or I love kalista. It's just an incredible champ to me (chara design, how refreshing and new her kit was, the synergy it makes with your beloved support). Please love Kalista. "Our task is unending"

Kalista dashing after every auto is soo great and then u auto dash q dash u can make so much distance then e shred anything

I put 100k Points in her after playing her non-stop trying to make her work, but after playing with other Meta adcs I just don't see a situation where she could be useful anymore. She has 0 escape her range is abysmal and even if you get ahead if you're team doesn't work together to end the game before 30 minutes she just falls off really hard and that is just the problems I had on my grind off the top of my head.

People who commonly went 2/12 with any hero were getting pentakills and going 10/1 with launch Vayne.

Kalista main: story and thoughts: I started playing kalista top when Pianta's video "copying" The Shy came out. It took me a while to get a handle on the basic movement and using q to poke and set up for all ins, but it was FUN, when played correctly she is exactly the type of champion I want, carry potential at range giving the enemy 0 chance of counterattack. (before learning kalista I was an adc main and I was annoyed at my duo partner and about being relient on supports in general) Unfortunatly, in the top lane I never got consistent, most games were either hard carry or hard feed, and being low elo (but mostly playing norms) games would last a long time, meaning kalista's strengths would be far past their prime resulting in a fair portion of games that I won lane hard hard some great skirmishes, but once full teamfights and the 25-30 minute mark came around I would start dying a lot and usually lose. Kalista top had some problems, I don't think I ever fully learned the matchups, ganks would often result in instant death and my map awareness was kinda shit (still is but slightly less), and you still had to rely on teammate (usually jg) for ult and w usage, and of course some games jg doesn't touch top lane. Fast forward to after they removed Sanguine blade (it pretty much killed top kalista). At this point I had left my duo partner and started playing some lethality caitlyn (thanks XFSN Saber, and Dark Mane) I played some Kalista mid lane and experimented with full lethality which is kind of garbage? It can be fun but I doubt it would be anything but a feed fest late game or in any elo higher than silver where I resided. In the past couple months I decided I was gonna get out of silver, so I started playing adc which is definitely my best role, I played some of my usual champs but couldn't get Ashe or Cait to work as well as my Kalista. So I played her pretty much every game that my random support didn't ask me to play something they were more comfortable with. Despite some supports not really clicking and some bad games, I climbed from silver 3 to gold four in the past couple of weeks. And I am currently trying to decide if I want to keep playing this broken silly game and keep climbing. Kalista has some problems, I don't know how it happens but sometimes my rend goes on cooldown even after killing a minion with it, the ultimate is janky as fuck sometimes, it is like the support bounces back after yeeting themselves onto the enemy, and in bot lane where you can't level only rend and Q my Q decides that it doesn't want to go through even very low health minions. Slows are the bane of Kalista because they reduce "hop" speed which in turn reduces damage and obviously slows you down, I try to treat slows as roots and just keep attacking while standing still, (this is usually the better option, though sometimes both will get you killed). I build full crit damage with kraken slayer almost every game. You can not go with full heal cut item if you want to win, it is just bad, you need someone else to get it or if no one else is just pick up the executioners and sell it late game. I go attack speed boots and kraken first (sometimes picking up an early vamp scepter if needed), then lord doms, at this point I'm looking for either runans or IE. Situational items include, collector, edge of night, QSS (rare), RFC (very good for kali but can take a while getting used to different auto attack ranges), GA (also rare), BT is good and Blade of the ruined king is also nice sometimes. Hail of Blades is king on Kalista. Hope anyone reading this has a good night! Be nice in your solo Q games folks or else they might remove team chat too (lul stupid riot)

I picked kalista up ages ago and didn't get good with her until recently, and most people think ult is nice when throwing in but nobody really knows how it works, so I mostly just use it to save my team mate

i used to be a kalista main, it's so great to play her since 99% of the player base don't even know wtf she does, and the i straitght up carry the game since no one can reach me and if they can the can't kill me fast enough.

I main her bc i just love the movement and how aggressive u can play her

I have switched to top but she is really fun is why I started playing her. I saw how bad she could snowball and she was flashy in the way she played. She also was pretty reliant in her ult on supports but also had a good trading pattern that would allow me to take more control of lots of lanes. It is also easy to last hit under tower. She works really well when there are lots of skillshots on the enemy team and you can stop your support from feeding if not able to use them as an engage. I get really good cs numbers with her and she often only dies because of my own misplay. I am silver/gold but I understand I am sometimes bad and after lots of games you will see it. Her early powerspike is great and she has a lot of ability to bait people.. making their team waste time killing you. She typically sucks with tank killing.

Two of my favorite ADCs of all time are Kalista and Aphelios but it's super hard to enjoy them in solo queue and I have no friends to play league with

I started playing last year in september and i main kalista since i started playing, i just love her passive and her lore, sometimes is extra frustrating giving everything you got with her, and you can't do much, because the enemy garen bought 40 armor and you just dont do damage anymore- or trying to kite with 99% slow a Nasus who only walk and hit you with 900 damage. Also, using her ult without a duo support can be hella difficult, i usually use it to save my supports (when they're in trouble) and it works, therefore when i want an engage with my R sometimes they just jump the other side and leave me alone in the battlefield (already happened 3 times in the same game). when it comes about anothers adc's interactions with Kalista, i think she has kinda advantage over most, only Ashe can be little hard, but the supports are decisive, anything that prevents you moving and jumping like slow, snare and stun is hard to play. (seraphine probab the worst to play against these days). building with her before the preaseason wasn't the hard thing to do, almost every game was the same build (ruined sword+runaan), but now i've found a lot of new builds, like lethality kalista which is very fun to play, or building galeforce to increase on your kiting, or full life steal, i even tried ap (kinda troll, but her W passive do some damage)

I've been playing her for about a week and so far she's the champion I do best with. I'm only a bronze 1 scrub but she's so much fun. Always ask my support to play a tank during champ select lol

Kali here has a "stackable" execute with dark harvest + culling. I've played about 20 games rushing culling and starting with its components. With dark harvest, if you proc it first, you will almost always get an execute from either e or culling. With out culling, you have a basic 2%+ execute, with it, you jump straight to 10%+, and rushing a GA after jumps you up to a 25%+ execute. (+meaning harvest damage and number of spears. But with 2 spears, the calculations are accurate depending or enemies Mr, armor, and if you have at least a level one w)

While I do quite enjoy Kalista, a large part of any success I find on her can be attributed to a frien of mine who happens to be a support main.

As a support main I can say she is my favorite adc to play

As a adc main(play almost adc role only and all adc champ champs) Kalista need a huge buff like a man want a water in a dessert. First make passive a bit longer and faster jumps. Make low cd on Q buff damage on Q and E. And make her playstyle if she play without Oath. Because she uncompetitively capable with all adc, and don't forget she have -10% damage from aa and your aa will missed if you lost vision

Maybe Riot could do something like they did with kench and swap her Q with her Ult and then some. Mybe a complete new ultimate where she gets something Olafesque. Or maybe something that helps with destributing spears directly, like Xayas Ult with her feathers. Maybe she dashes forward(longer than her passive) collects all her thrown spears and throws out a big spear that does dmg and puts that ammount of stacks, she collectet on one enemy. With the passive of her W how about if her ally is not in range(she has to have one), she gets some defensive stats ? That would certainly help

I play Kalista because I was tired of feeling like I was getting carried by my champ select, and although her base stats are horrendous, a single attack speed item brings her up to par if you have good communication with your supp getting kills is basically free (oh btw, there is an inbetween, im not a smurf and im definitely not a feeder, in fact just a double kill bot lane can skyrocket you into winning the game)

I hated the runaan reverse because it gave the passive, attackspeed and damage on a first item and now its bad again. I loved to build her tanky because runaan and frozen mallet had a fun sinergy.
