I'm still using my S10e and will need a replacement soon, so I'm glad to have this option. I understand why large phablet phones are popular. For many people the phone is their default device for accessing the net. For some it's their only device for net access. I'm provided by my employer with a laptop/LTE. I have my own laptop. I have a couple of high end desktops at home. For me the phone is a peripheral device. I prefer a phone that fits into a pants side pocket and can be operated with one hand.

I think we should appreciate the fact that someone still cares about compact phones and still manage to cram up all the good things in it. I love compact phones the likes of which were felt in Pixel 3 a, and it was a lighter phone too, making it minimal to carry and gives it minimal aesthetic altogether. I know people have forgotten about Light phone 2, but its such form factors that makes us forget we are holding or carrying a brick. And use it less.

I have an Asus ZenFone 10, and I'm really happy with it so far! I was actively searching for a compact phone. I don't like big and heavy phones, they are uncomfortable to use (at least for me and ny small hands), but i didn't want to compromise performance, because I use my phone as a work aid and i like gaming. As someone who works at tech sales, a lot of people wish they had proper options for small phones. The Zenfone 10 is pretty much a perfect phone in regards to what I would want from a phone. And judging by the amount of questions I get regarding smaller phones, if they made like a Zenfone 10 Lite with some reduced specs at 599 or 499, that phone would sell like crazy. But extreme kudos to Asus for keeping up with the Zenfone series and keeping it small when everyone else is going bigger.

Don't use screen sizes as a measurement. Back then most phones were 16:9 with huge bezels. But now, we got curves and different aspect ratios so it really doesn't make sense to use screen sizes. Extreme example, the phone with a 7.92inch screen is actually smaller than a 6.7inch iPhone 14 Pro Max. That phone is a Xiaomi Mi Mix Alpha and it has a wrap around screen.

@@fenn_fren definitely no. 5.1 inches is crazy tiny unless you have microscopic hands. I have a 6" oppo and that is just ok size, a little bigger at 6.2-6.4 inches seems to be the perfect size because small displays cause eye strain and are just not a great viewing experience. But that doesn't mean that bigger is better, I have a 7.3 inch honor 8x max too and that is wayy too big. I think the width of phones needs to increase and height needs to decrease, that way it is usable corner to corner with one hand and a good viewing experience too, though it might look a little odd

Nobody buys them because nobody makes them. And the reason people go for bigger phones is that companies make you buy it. If I, for example, want to have more than 512gb of memory, I need to get a bigger phone because they don't have such option in their smaller phones. AND THERE IS NO option to expand memory with an SD card as it used to be. So my answer is - companies MAKE you buy bigger phones!

Nice review as usual! Super informative. Just a point of correction on thermals. I believe there is no "airflow" in a phone since there are no fans (in most phones. The asus ROG phone is the only phone I could remember having an actual fan). At a hardware level, the phone dissipates heat by conduction through the use of heat sinks in most scenarios.

I don't usually comment here but I think you really dropped the ball with this one. With the influence you have, you could have objectively reviewed the phone for what it is (a compact device that doesn't have most of the drawbacks of a compact device which is a marvelous engineering feat by Asus). But it feels like you already had a generic script for "Why small phone are bad" and you were waiting for any small phone to come on the review desk to talk about that and this just happens to be this phone which does not have any small phone problem (thermal performance and battery life) unsurprisingly this shows a disconnect between the points you are making and the objective reality of this product.

@@garycheung4658 People who want small phones don't buy the "small" phones that companies are releasing because they aren't small enough. Today's small phone is utterly gigantic compared to the first 4 cell phones I ever owned. Then companies justify not making them because "there's no demand". You're not gonna sell me on a "small" phone that is substantially larger than my current phone. I will upgrade to a phone that is actually smaller than what I have (a pixel 4, 5.79in screen). If I'm shopping for a small phone, there is no world where i'm buying a phone larger than the phone I already have, which I already feel is too large.

@@KyleClerico That's because making them smaller would force even more compromises (even smaller camera, battery, resolution, worse thermals, etc.) than the ones already made, as shown in this video which I hope you watched. Basically going even smaller would give people even fewer reasons to buy them. We have to face reality that the modern smartphone experience, at least presently, is not compatible with small form factors. What people want and expect from a phone simply can't exist at such small sizes.

Also, her battery health is falling faster than mine although I abuse my phone when it comes to charging habits. It is so funny to me when someone says bigger phones have bigger screen for details. Sure, a movie formatted for an IMAX screen looks exactly same and detailed in a 7 inch phone but if you scale it down 1 more inch it’s a disaster 😂 As per this logic 8 inch phone will have better display, camera and battery. 10 inch one will be even better. Finally, someone who understands the struggle of small phone enthusiasts! It's frustrating how manufacturers keep pushing for larger and larger screens, assuming that everyone wants a phablet-sized device. As someone who prefers compact phones for their portability and one-handed use, I truly appreciate the points made in this video. Let's hope phone companies start recognizing the demand for smaller form factors and give us more options! 🙌📱 Edit: Thanks For The Likes! ❤️

I switched to an old phone I had lying around just because it was small and lightweight. 6.7 inches and over 200 grams of phone is insufferable. The only reason I came back to my 6.7inch phone is because the software in that phone was truly ancient and the battery didn't last that long either. I would definitely root for a small phone. I have big hands but it's still painful to use a phone this big

Asus phones have terrific longevity. My Zenfone Max Pro M1 still survives after 5 years even after I broke the display twice and now my father uses it. It's the same size at 5'9" but that's how big phones used to be back then. Now 6'5" is the standard.

It has bezels so the actual size is larger than 5.9 inches. If you compare the actual size of the phone to modern smartphones its pretty much equivalent to a regular 6.5 inch.

I tend to disagree with you. There are people that prefer smaller phones. Mine is an iPhone SE 2nd Gen. I chose it only because I did not pay the extra cash for the newer small versions. This is enough for me and still get the same updates as the newer models. Also, I needed a phone for my daughter. Being a child, she has small hands. I wanted an Android, but I found nothing that fits her hands. Eventually I bought a phone for her. But she can't even use it with both hands, for more than five minutes. She needs to prop it somehow. So I miss the smaller phones, that can comfortably fit in a pocket and can be used with one hand.

I've been using an iPhone 13 mini for almost a year and a half by now and I absolutely love it. I wish more companies would make small flagship phones but as you mentioned there are plenty of challenges manufacturers have to face in making one. Maybe one day there would be a Google Pixel mini? Or another iPhone SE with the same body as the 13 mini? Who knows, awesome video BTW!

When all companies are pushing to bigger screens and folding features, I think they are forgetting that weight and size are also an aspect. Take iphone 13 pro max, it's big and it's edges cut into your hand, carrying it in a trouser pocket you can feel its weight pulling on your pants, while a bigger screen can be good I think a smaller phone is easier to carry around and do everyday tasks, and zenfone is packing both the astounding performance with a smaller and sleeker look. Honestly its just amazing how much they can pack in that.

They’re not pushing for it. They’re simply responding to the market demand. And the fact is people like big phones. That’s why the iPhone Minis were only 5% of all iPhone sales. Only a small percentage of people bought the small model.

I actually liked this zenfone 10. My last phone was a motorola one, it's size was just perfect. I like phones that I can use with one hand. But the problem was the battery, as usual, last year I bought the umidigi power 7 max, giant phone, with ridiculous 10000 mAh. The only downsize with my actual phone is it's size. I miss operating my phone with one hand. I can see myself easily using this zenfone 10 without a problem, even with the "small' battery compared to my actual phone...

2 months ago I went to an iPhone 13 mini after 10 years on Android (all Samsung). I bypassed the S23 Ultra and literally left the ecosystem to get a small phone that wasn’t garbage with short security update cycle. I’m 6’ tall and on my phone a lot, I would be fine with a slightly smaller phone. I don’t miss a larger screen at all.

Having used many phones, one of my favorites is the iPhone 13 mini. I had 2 of those before and I am STILL drawn to it. Im currently using the Pixel 7 and Im seriously considering to try the Zenfone 9. But if small phones were to make a come back, Samsung needs to be the one to introduce them (since Apple has given up on the mini. Maybe an S24e like the old S10e, but one can only wish for it.
