As a young American cs player, the most approachable way to play structured team cs is absolutely collegiate. There's a lot of undeveloped talent in collegiate. Young prodigies don't find the spotlights (NA opens, streaming, locals) they once could so they either wait for the growing collegiate infrastructure or play Valorant. NA collegiate teams take big inspiration from modern European cs, the scene needs more eyes and motivation.

I'd be curious to see what type of deals teams will go for if Valve really start cracking down on gambling sites. I think these sites really prop up a lot of teams (g2 as an example) and I'd be curious to see how much money orgs are willing to spend on players without that backing.
@cosmic_sailor
@cosmic_sailor Жыл бұрын
They'd just have to get more sponsors that pay lower.
@MrPreachingCarrot
@MrPreachingCarrot Жыл бұрын
@@cosmic_sailor It's not that simple IMO. lets take Jeffs latest video, he was offered 180k a month and he is a YTer with 780k subs. Some of these orgs are spread across several games so they'll be fine, however lesser orgs I'd assume would struggle. ITB have just secured hellcase as a sponsor which I assume is good money but getting 'more sponsors' isn't an easy task. If one site is offering 180k a month i can only imagine what a team could make in a year, however getting 5 sponsors might not even make a dent on what these gambling sites would offer.
@cosmic_sailor
@cosmic_sailor Жыл бұрын
@@MrPreachingCarrot well yeah, but the rates these illicit gambling sites are paying are super inflated, the market will adjust itself. It's also likely that more legit sponsors will enter the scene if these scummy businesses are weeded out because a) they are bad PR and b) their offers are too big to be matched by anyone else. On top of that, you still have business that bring huge profits, such as betting sites and casinos who don't use Valve's IP (some of them make enough to run their own org, see: 1WIN and BetBoom), so there will be sponsors with deep pockets regardless.

One aspect that might also play into this if CS2 is released in the upcoming months is that Riot are really messing up the Tier 2 scene in Valorant. There is nothing to play for in the next 6 months, which is why almost all of the orgs in NA Challengers (Tier 2) dropped their rosters.

That's what Valorant has over CSGO, it has a bigger international reach because of how the tournament circuit is formatted where all the regions have their own leagues and the fact that Riot gives slots to regions like Japan, Korea, and APAC for the international events. Too bad Valve is not able to help sustain those regions for CSGO

Part of the reason why CS will blow up in NA is because of the rise of PC gaming in North America. During my high school years (2015-2019), the culture of PC gaming, Counter-Strike, and esports as a whole was basically non existent. Everyone I knew was either playing Fortnite or FIFA on their consoles. None of them even knew you could play AAA games on PCs let alone know about CS:GO and their reputation for selling out stadiums. When I graduated and the global pandemic hit, everyone gave PC gaming a chance and stuck to it, but by then, Valorant was the game to introduce them to tactical shooters, not CS, which is why NA talent in Valorant is quadruple the amount of CS' NA talent. With CS2 being advertised as a new Counter-Strike, it can bring in new players and talent from those that never gave CS a shot prior.

I've thought for a while that it's dumb that players get insane salary's that can bite them in the ass later. Prime example: Yay. He tried CSGO, got a few opportunities, tried Valorant, performed well then next thing you know he's unable to compete cause no one can afford them. Pro players should have a set salary in my opinion. If you want more money, that's where tournament wins and streaming comes into play.

I find it interesting that every video I've seen addressing CS2's release never touch on in my opinion the primary reason why CS2 may not do as well as you think. The MASSIVE necessity for an invasive effective onboard anti-cheat. The lack of an effective anti-cheat has completely plagued the game. Any serious players who want a safe cheater free environment is impelled to use 3rd party MM systems such as faceit or ESEA. 11 years of CSGO, it's actually quite amazing how popular the game is considering how bad the matchmaking is compared to other contemporary games (a tribute to how great counterstrike is, that people are willing to risk wasting their time to match against a cheater just to play the game). I really hope Valve implements something on par with Valorant's AC - that's the first step. Then an elo MM system to allow players to see progress on a ladder and strive towards improvement (valorant, dota 2, leaderboards for example). Players who are PUG-stars in dota 2 have been picked up by professional orgs dozens of times. This has never been a reality in csgo's MM system, because csgo's MM system and the rampart cheater issue has been addressed quite poorly by valve. If the CS community is still urged to play faceit to avoid cheaters in MM that would be a huge missed opportunity for the growth of CS2 and NA CS in general.

The problem with NA is, always has been and always will be our player’s attitudes. Everyone has the ego of Andrew Ttate but is a little cry baby bitch at the same time and it completely stunts team’s potential to grow. These kids lose 1 main match and the entire team implodes because someone said “hey you missed that flash and blinded me”. The problem with the players now is they can dish it out but can’t take it. NA has always been very in your face and vocal but most of the players now get criticized for mistakes then take to Twitter and cry that someone was being mean to them, but turn around and act the same or worse. This will probably never change. I predict late 2015-2017 all over again for CS2. All these NA teams will get picked up and then have zero results to show for the money dumped in and 1 by 1 the orgs will start backing out again.
