The 1300's sound better than the 1800, the 1800 has flaws with the motor because it is designed different. I ride my uncle's 05 1300. Thing has been all over America, nearly 150k miles now. In the past three years since I've been the primary rider, it has required 0 maintenance. "enough power" LOL bahahahaha A Ninja 250 beat it to 60 mph and around turns! Just for kicks, the 1800 is almost 2.5 seconds faster to 60 mph than the 1300.

The 1800 is a great bike for someone coming over from sport bikes. The power is similar to a 600. But the torque is what makes me happy. Only thing I miss about sport bikes are the turns. But I’ll tell you what. A cop don’t bat an eye at me when I speed on the cruiser. On the sport bike you’re pulled over just for being on it.

@@ashtonmiles4208 Get a Royal Enfield 650 interceptor. They are ultra cheap, and extremely reliable, not a crappy bike. Counterbalanced smooth motor and is the best looking motorcycle being made that isn't an expensive and very heavy cruiser. The Royal Enfield won't scrape pegs, or floorboards when you corner, and it's going to be about 150 pounds lighter so it's going to be much easier to move around. You can't really even push a 600 pound motorcycle, they feel like a bit chunk of solid lead. I am riding a Suzuki 1300 and I can barely push it, and it's 580 pounds, and I think a VTX is 75 pounds heavier. Seriously, if you have to park the VTX1300, you won't be able to move it once it's parked, it won't be going anywhere. Moving a 600 or 650 pound motorcycle when you're a beginner is just not safe. A 400 pound motorcycle feels light and nimble by comparison and you can actually push a 400 pound motorcycle if you run out of gas.

Commenting without watching. Snap judgement...I owned a Soft Tail for a number of years. Nice bike. Some expensive but not serious repairs coupled with major depreciation and then needing a major top end job ... Sold it for $ 2,500.00. An 11K loss. Bought a beautiful VTX on the Spot for $2,500.00. Loaded. Hard bags. Full windshield. Fantastic performer and the ride is so comfortable. Again..I liked my FLSTC but the VTX S model is much more bike. Note..I have many years (50), miles and bikes of various makes and models...this VTX rates as No. 1.

Word of caution... I have a friend that had a VTX 1800 and he's ridden bikes for years and years, and he said it almost got out from under him several times, to the point that he got rid of it. 1800's are not for beginners or even a step up from beginners... Very, very, experienced riders might consider an 1800. Same thing for Suzuki M109R's... Too much power for some people...

IT's primal, visceral, it connects to that caveman brain, and says, "we make fire now!"

others have mentioned it but i want to reiterate...please replace the steering head bearings with tapered bearings (all balls). they are $30 on amazon and takes a novice 2-3 hours to replace. it would be very irresponsible to sell that motorcycle without fixing that death wobble. also if you put aftermarket pipes on that bike you need to remove the pair valve or it will backfire like crazy. i got a 2004 vtx1300s back in march, spent about $200 and a couple weekends in the garage getting her running perfect. everyone complains how heavy the 1300 is but i actually enjoy the extra weight since my commute is 50 miles of highway riding.

Cool video. My 2005 VTX1300R (V&H pipes) with 26,000 miles rides today like it did brand new. So much so I've decided to keep it, although I just bought a 2012 Road King. The 1300R has been great. Apart from tires & fluids... it just kept on keeping on. AS for the VTX1800. After a few years driving the 1300 I got an extended loan of a VTX1800. It gave me a great opportunity to decide it wasn't worth it to upgrade. 99.9 per cent of the time (the way I drive) (moderately quick) the 1300R gives me everything the 1800 would. But the trade off is the 1800 is heavier, and you kind of end up lumbering along. I think that unless you're a real full throttle/flat out/need all the horses-and-then-some guy... stick with the 1300. Great bike, phenomenal value for the money. You can pick them up today for $4,000 or so, with often under 15,000 miles.

First off, if you are after "speed" why would you buy a "cruiser"? Doy. I can do 120 MPH on my VTX 1300. Will it get to that speed as fast as a Decati will? No. But why would we compare a Vette (Ducati) to a LIncoln Continental (VTX 1300 or 1800)? It's plenty fast and gets me up to 60 mph faster than any car will and it gets 45 MPG on highway driving where my care gets 21 MPG. Nuf said.

With My body @ 5'9 @ 185lbs, my bike dropped into 4th gear on the HW can hurl me like a sling shot at any given point I wish with ease. I rode an 06 vtx for 5 years and put 52000 miles on it. Overall great bike. With the right pipes I think its the best sounding metric v twin out there, even better than the 1800 vtx. Easy bike to work on.The handle bar shake is quite common, and usually shows up between 40 and 50mph on decel as you drop to around 45. You can only feel it if you take your hands off the bars. Better steering head bearings is the fix. Never replaced mine, I just held on to the bars.

@Ritalie
@Ritalie Жыл бұрын
I saw his bars shake in this video part way through, he quickly put his hands back on the bars. Tires make all the difference in my experience. If you do a lot of hard front braking, it wears the tread funny, and also having low pressure in the tires when you go riding (very common) ruins the tread pattern and creates a shake when you're slowing down, I had this happen on a Ninja. I have the same bike now with new tires and it doesn't have that shake at all. But I had worn tires after running them under-inflated for a long time, and it developed the shake. You really have to check your tire pressure every week on a motorcycle because a tiny wisp of air loss will cause a 5 psi drop. Low air pressure overheats the tread and ruins the tread. At 42 psi, the tires run cooler and don't get gooey and they last a lot longer, because they are running cooler. Also, some tires havee defective tread patterns and should be recalled. Like the "3D Storm" tires, they are one of the worst and cause some bikes to have a speed wobble for no reason. Switching to a known good tire with good reviews on your exact bike, is a good way to prevent a speed wobble. (FYI replace the steering head bearings, because you need to be safe!)

I have already put a new wiring harness in it as of 8/27/2022. I have a new ignition switch with a key on order as of today. Next step is front tire, new front rim....hopefully not.....and change the oil in the rear hypoid drive system and the oil has been sitting but still looks good and a battery and hopefully she will be ready to go. The body work is in pretty good shape besides a few nicks and scratches here and there and she is in Sean’s favorite color. Blue. Specifically nova blue. Which the bike looks great in this color. Cant wait to hear her fire up for the first time after she has been sitting for two years

The 1300 has a much better sound due to the single pin crank & handles a bit better.
@Ritalie
@Ritalie Жыл бұрын
You're the only one in the comments that knows this. It took me forever to find out that the 1300 is different, because it's actually really hard to find the information. I had to google for hours until the light bulb clicked, because the reviews never mention it. It doesn't really matter how awful the single crank pin is, and it is awful because there's no way to balance it, because it's neither 90 degrees, no 0 degrees, it's just a totally random firing order that causes the engine to shake violently from the front to the back of the bike, which shakes the bars and tires from front to back. But as it turns out, Honda put a counterbalance shaft to counteract that vibration and put an enormous HEAVY crankshaft in it, to quell the vibration further. Front to back vibration isn't actually bad, because it only really causes a problem if the bike is not moving, according to FortNine who made a video called "Why millions of people ride Harley Davidsons." He says the front to back vibration goes away when you're moving, because it's added into the motion of the motorcycle. Clearly Honda and Suzuki are not as brave as Harley or Indian, because they refused to use the single crank pin on their VTX1800 and Suzuki Boulevard 1800.

I upgraded to a VTX 1800N1 after owning a VTX 1300R for 9 months, after upgrading from a Shadow Aero. The acceleration from the 1300 to the 1800 is WAY more noticeable than the 750 to the 1300. I was expecting the 1300 to rip compared to the Shadow, but the 1800 really makes you say, "Oh shit," when it's at full torque. I've even felt the front end start to come up a little when nailing it. I paid a little more than I wanted to spend, but it's so damn nice with super low miles. It has the chrome meathook ape hangers, Cobra pipes, a 1300 final drive, batwing fairing with a stereo and 4 polk speakers, airbag suspension, Harley no key start, 4 floorboards, custom grips, LED turnsignals and custom headlight. Basically everything I wanted on my last bikes but didn't want to mess with.

I had a VTX1800 and it was the most uncomfortable thing I'd ever ridden. It drank fuel and you'd be lucky to get 75 miles out of a tank of fuel. Most of the fuel tank is taken up by the fuel pump inside the tank. My wife would also slide into me at stops because of the slant/angle of the pillion. My 2 cents.

I ride a VTX1300 and my husband rides a VTX1800. I'm only 4'11" and the VTX1300 fits me just fine. The VTX1800 is taller, so I can't safely touch the ground. The other problem is the weight...I can easily lift my bike off the kickstand and maneuver it, the VTX1800 is so much heavier I can't even budge it. Hubby is 5'11" and has no problem, however he said there was a learning curve dealing with the weight - and he rode a HD Dyna Super Glide before he got the VTX1800. He has owned and ridden various bikes (street & dirt) over the last 40 years. I caution a beginner just because of the heavy weight involved. VTX1300 has plenty of power - some of our highway speed limits in this state are 80 mph, and have no problem at all passing someone nicely at or above the speed limit.

I would like to mention that the VTX 1800 is not "the same bike" in many ways. It is heavier, it is more top heavy and harder to handle at slow speed. It is fuel injected and it is faster, but do you really need the speed? I tried both bikes in the same day and I found that the 1800 was not as easy to maneuver. So I bought the 1300 and I have never looked back.
