Good point Foody. We could have mentioned so many more. Gronefeld is impossible to obtain at the moment, they stopped taking orders altogether. On G&F we are doing really well and they are still, with some patience, atteinable. We could have mentioned so many more, such as Andreas Strehler, Van Der Klauww, H.Moser, Hautlence, Suhanov, Kari Voutilainen, Stepan Sarpaneva....so hard to condense so much in 30 minutes. But we may do more in future, hopefully. Thanks for watching.

Thx for a great video. IMO, independent watchmaking is where it’s at. The one risk we should mention however is continuity. What will happen to brands like NHC (Calabrese) or BLU (Lederer) in a decade or so, is not clear. I hope sites like The Limited Edition or even the Naked Watchmaker can somehow play a role in helping collectors keep their prized timepieces ticking away.

Damian got me hooked on this watch too. I pit my name down and managed to get one of the second series. I don't wear a watch every day so can't verify on its accuracy . @thelimitededition
@thelimitededition 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Laurin, the Miyota movement (Seiko) is easily serviceable in the UK, but any watchmaker with experience. But I would always follow the brand's recommended policy in this case. As per the artisanal indie watchmakers, they generally work in a way that allows experienced and trained watchmakers to be able to service any of their watches. But yet again, if the original watchmaker is still active, I would always recommend going back to the source. Pietro.

@@julianadams2206 Great point Julian. I have to say, with over 20 years of experience behind me, that artisanal watchmakers tend to operate like the old masters, they like to think that their timepieces would one day be in a museum or auction house, so they need to be repairable and serviceable by any trained watchmaker. This attitude comes mainly as most indie watchmakers were restorers at the beginning of their career, so they have learned first had that watchmaking is all about the transmission of knowledge. I hope this makes sense? Thanks a lot. Pietro.

We admire Shapiro's work. His slightly classic British reminiscent style and the references to George Daniels are a great way to talk about the historical links, that were very real in the past, between the British watchmaking tradition and the American's (often overlooked). I love the work that Josh does on his Guilloché dials, in particular. We are planning to shed some light on the contemporary American watchmaking tradition. We have a couple of interesting interviews on our channel with Dan Spitz, who is realizing the George Daniels approach of building every part of his watch in-house (literally IN HIS HOUSE) in the US. More to come.

@@thelimitededition The Antarctique took Czapek to another level. Maybe part of its success is because collectors cant get a RO or Nautilus, but i think the overwhelming reason is that it actually is the better watch. I have both the Antarctique and the RO 15500. The AP has the better bracelet and the bigger name on the dial, but the Antarctique is superior in every other category. The SXH5 is to die for.

I 100% agree, I looked at a half dozen integrated sports watch models from all of the usual suspects including Lange. This Antarctique is no longer the hidden gem and delivers far above its weight and what you will find from Patek, AP, and VC in that price range! And - I just landed the Salmon dial. Journe is a itch.... (It might mean going back to Pragnell - but I've kind of forgiven 'em now.)
