Yeah.. Elder Gen X person here and I love the fact that I can play the game in 30 minute to an hour chunks and not feel like I'm getting nothing done or am completely lost when I get back into it. I know it's a big thing to get super offended when an option is added to a game that a player doesn't want to use, but I think it's stupid. Some people want to have that long, realistic travel time and cool, more power to them. I enjoy it occasionally too. But you know what I also like? Being able to hop into the game and get get on with the fun part, instead of having an entire session jumping from system to system to get to the next mission location. I can do it if I want, or I can just skip over all that part and get to where I'm blasting people in the face. Options. They are a wonderful thing.

I'm 29 and I *love* Starfield. Is it a perfect game? Absolutely not. But I can spend hours doing any of the things it has to offer, from shipbuilding to just jumping between system and seeing what kinds of trouble I can get myself into.

48, love the game. Great stories, awsome moments, and yes extremely fun ship crafting engine. I hope they will add more parts to it.

That were some of my first thoughts about the game, "it's for the mature audience". Like me, im 48 and I LOVE IT.

I've never once thought "damn, I wish this game had better maps." The scanner is more than enough and I can spend less time in the menus.

I'm 60, and after 186 hours of playing I'm still enjoying Starfield, for many of the reasons you listed. I'm pretty patient with the bugs I've encountered, maybe because I'm older, and maybe because there are plenty of other things to do in the game until updates (or mods) fix the bugs. Although I like the game, I admit that I don't feel the same "magic" that I get from the Elder Scrolls games, but that's to be expected because they're completely different worlds.

Spot on. Although a weird one, because by definition these games are a time sinks, of time that we do not have. Somehow SF manages to provide an equally quick satisfaction of a short run as well as a joy of an 5 hour sessions. Not something I could have said about Skyrim or Fallout. And about older people, yes, I believe most of SF haters are people who simply do not know how to play the game. I have friends who never played Skyrim or Fallout, they are baffled. They say SF is complicated, too many things to do, they think crafting is a requirement for progress etc. They simply do not know what they are dealing with here. I, a veteran, consider Starfield to be the apex of BGS/RPG gaming. Not much I am missing in that game. They add asteroid scanning/mining, simple lo/hi margin trade, maybe some anomaly scanning in space - it's a done deal. The rest is already here. And impatient millenials, go play something else, this is obviously not for you.

Having gone to Hutton Orbital to get that stupid mug, I concur with regards to fast travel 100%.

If doing something meaningful with your time that requires investment is wasting time, and doing pointless things that distract you from your life is not wasting time, then I guess I can understand this perspective

I'm 34 and WAS a big Bethesda fan. (Oblivion, Skyrim, Fallout 3) I came here hoping to understand what anyone likes about this game, and I have found this video helpful. Almost nothing I liked about the aforementioned games is present in Starfield. RPG elements gutted. Hand crafted environments mostly replaced with auto generated environments and copy pasted structures. Enemy and companion AI literally the worst I have ever seen in a Bethesda game. It's just impossible for me to not compare Starfield to prior Bethesda games and find it lacking in almost every way that matters to me. Good that other people can enjoy it, but Bethesda no longer makes the types of games I want to play.

46, agree with your points but I ultimatly feel this isn't the space rpg I was promised and let's be honest it's even poor for a bethesda game. The quest are forgetable the faction desings are shallow and simple game design principles are ignored. They may respect player time in one aspect only to ingnore it compleatlty somewhere else. Bathesda has made better games than Starfield currently is, and that isn't a victory for anyone.

I think it’s “nostalgia for good Bethesda” I won’t play the game personally because I no longer feel Bethesda are of quality games though. Not until it is a deep deep sale game. Looks more like a MASSive time sink and waste of at this time.
