The desire to merge with God is known as spiritual suicide. It is stated in the actual story that the living entities are eternally individual. Guiding people to a concocted path of impersonalism is also expressly condemned therein.

Draupadi was also on the path of doing the same , By cursing both Pandavas and kauravas ,UNTIL Lord Krishna persuaded her otherwise and asked her to make her fight against Injustice a Representation of all Women who have been subject to Mistreatment and Insult , He promised her that He will Lead the fight and see it reaches Logical Conclusion

During the war, Bhima did kill an elephant named Ashwatthama which was an elephant. But while Yudhisthira broke the news to Acharya Drona, he mentioned it as: Ashwatthama Ataha, Kunjara. Kunjara was told under the breath of Yudhishthira so the Acharya could not hear it and thus gave up on this life assuming that his son attained martyrdom.

Yudhishtra went to hell not because he told a white lie. Mahabharata is very clear that he says *_"Ashwathama hatha"_* loudly and adds "kunjarah" under his breath, meaning that Ashwathama the elephant is dead. So he did not lie, not even a white lie. But he went to hell because he did not trust the God at that moment. He DISOBEYED lord Krishna who asked him to say only "Ashwathama hatha". For this disobedience & loss of faith in the actions of Krishna, he went to hell.

A partial truth(or a lie) to weaken the heart of a warrior was considered as a Sin. The sins committed to weaken people's moral are the biggest sins. Also, the way Arjun killed Karna was against all ethics. Real Mahabharatha starts after the Kurukshethra war, where the philosophy of right and wrong were analyzed in deep.

What about Yudhishtira's gambling problem? It seems to me that he was as much a sinner as the other Pandavas and Draupadi and in no position to talk about why the others had to die. Maybe if he knew when to stop gambling, the Kauravas wouldn't have had the chance to try disrobing Draupadi and the war might not have been necessary? But he just could not stop.
@dineshthakar4207
@dineshthakar4207 3 жыл бұрын
He was goaded and compelled to gamble by the crafty Shakuni the uncle as it was clearly a setup from the word go. The game is called cowries and it was rigged by Shakuni so that the Kauravas could outrage the modesty of Draupadi. Yudhishthir was often referred as "Dharamraj" meaning a man of great honor. The idea was that since he was Dharamraj, he would have to honor the wager and fulfill the condition of disrobing Draupadi which was to be "won" by cheating. Otherwise Yudhishthir was never a gambler being Dharamraj.

We all must have heard these stories as youngsters, it is nice to revisit them. You are doing a very good job, please continue and best wishes. As I am in mid 50s, with age and experience I feel the concept of heaven and hell was created to make us human beings behave in an ethical, moral, scrupulous and honest manner. I don’t know if heaven and hell exists after our death, but with good behavior we can experience heaven on earth and with bad behavior we can experience hell on earth. I have no idea if the concept of rebirth is true, but being a Hindu I believe in it. If we do good deeds, we always experience the effect of it in our lives. We should learn from mythology and history that certain attributes and characteristics ( like honesty, charity, justice, etc) never go out of ‘fashion’ as these have stood the test of time. Just today I came across your channel and subscribed to it. Thank you and God bless you

The second version is the real interpretation of principles of Karma. Everyone who comes to this world has to endure both the effects - I.e the effects of good deeds and the bad ones separately. It means that the good deeds you do will not cancel or compensate for your bad deeds. One will pay for their bad deeds and will get paid for their good deeds. This is essential too, because otherwise people would start doing bad deeds followed by good ones so that the good ones will compensate for their bad ones. So, to conclude- You are rewarded separately for all your good deeds and you are penalised for your bad deeds and both the accounts(good deeds and bad deeds) are maintained separately.

The sins of the pandavas do not count up to 1 / 1000th part of only shakunis sins, what to speak of the rest. But as Keshava said, a good person is judged harsher than a demon.. He himself talked to kauravas despite knowing that they are blocks of stone and wood. Balarama nearly destroyed hastinapura for this. But it was krishna who destroyed them when all goodwill had failed.

This only shows injustice and manipulation at every stage, even in the court of Yamaraj. So many virtues of the Pandavas were minimised against a few sins. And on the other hand one or two good deeds of Kauravas fell heavily on all the sins that they committed. Ridiculous!!!!! No doubt why mortals are not afraid of committing sins in the present time.

He tried to give emphasis and more importance to Duty rather than other good things. What version you choose is upto you. For me it's second version of story. It was just a Test (like many he faced in his whole life) of Yudhishthira - the righteous one.

To all judging Yudhishter ... sad to see you focusing on the one time he went wrong in his whole life because of Shakuni. It would be hard for today's generation to be in Yudhistra's shoes. That was the time when people were known for their words. The identity of a virtuous man was judged on how much can he stand by his words. Shakuni knew how to use this in a negative way. You have to see the whole sequence of events that led him to bet draupadi. A perfect plot was master minded by Shakuni that even the most virtuous people like Bheeshma and Drona couldn't do anything. Again the point is that was a different time. People simply can't go back on their words. Mahabharata is not about showing Pandavas in a positive sense... but it's about how one got to react in different situations ... Sometimes one has to be wrong to deal with wrong ... So let's stick with the learning we can get of human experience rather than judging them from today's bigoted lenses
@manasishah3577
@manasishah3577 2 жыл бұрын
I believe everyone is responsible for his/her Karma. Shakuni was able to weave an elaborate plan against the Pandavas due to Yudhishthir's weakness. Gambling addiction was his vice but betting the lives of his brothers and wife was sinful. He did not stand by his words. He did not protect his brothers. He forgot his vows to Draupadi. Shakuni was not doubt worse but the decision to bet his family was Yudhishthir's very own. And not only Yudhishthir but all the people present in the court were the silent/active part-takers in the sin. Also, it is not necessary to be wrong to deal with the wrong. What had Lord Ram done wrong that he had to deal with the wrong? All in all, Mahabharat does depict many virtues, vices, decisions and their effects. But no version elaborates this sin as Yudhishthir's worst sin. Instead the white lie of Ashwatthama's death is always recalled as Yudhishthir's greatest sin.

@@manasishah3577 Lord Rama killed Bali behind his back ... which is wrong specially for someone of the stature of Lord Ram ... I didn't say Yudhister was right. Every human being is born with some weaknesses. Shakuni played a good plot. About gambling his brothers and his wife and even himself ... That was the era when people were owned by the king. Even woman were owned by their husband ... there is a reason why woman back then referred to their husband as swami. Even Bhishma confirmed that even though It was Yudhisters fault to keep playing but he had the right to gamble his wife . Again as I said that was a different time. He made a mistake and made sure that he redemp himself of it on earth itself. This blot shouldn't take away the fact that he is the most virtuous, kind hearted and just ruler the world has ever seen.
@manasishah3577
@manasishah3577 2 жыл бұрын
The only reason why I cannot consider Yudhishthir as a kind, virtuous and just person is his gambling addiction. He lost in the first round of Go as well but was then let go. He repeated the mistake again even after the advice from his family. Not only that but he also bet his brothers and wife. That alone makes me think that even if he bacame the King after the war, there always remains a possibility of him repeating the same thing had there been a Shakuni v2. If he was such a just person he could even have voiced out his disagreement when Eklavy and Karan were not given the chance to learn from Dronacharya. I might be baised and I know it was supposed to role out in this manner only but I still can't agree that he was Dharmaraj. Btw, you reasoned it very well. The society that time had this perception of the King or the head of the family being the decision maker. Though our other puranas also say that a women is not an object and should be respected, the whole of Kuruvansh forgot that. Mahabharata taught us that even learning from the best does not make a difference of you don't apply it in real life and our ignorance, greed and ego can lead to the downfall of the whole nation.

Yudhistira's sin was that he lacked discrimination and gambled his wife away. Duryodhana had discrimination and knew he was not a professional gambler, so he employed his uncle Shakuni and also gave Yudhistira the same alternative of choosing a champion. He could have chose Krishna to represent him, but he mistakenly believed it was his duty to play the match himself despite not being that skilled. He even prayed Krishna would not find out, essentially binding him to not interfere in the match. What would have happened if Shakuni tried to cheat Krishna? Which way would the dice have rolled? Instead he relied on his own prowess and the lesson is reinstated when Draupadi is disrobed. First she thinks one of her other husbands will save her, then she relies on her own prowess, then when all other options fail she finally surrenders to Krishna and calls out for him where he stops her from being disrobed by creating an endless cloth. You can't gamble your wife away.

Why is the narrator making the big "AA" sound at the end of many of the sanskrit words like "Yudhishtira", "Swargaloka", "Yama", etc.? It should be the smaller "A" sound. That just sounds wrong to me.

I could be wrong but Yudhishthira not being a sinner could be right. He followed his dharma as a King and when a King loses, he has to give up his everything. Now his dharma as a King collides with his dharma as a husband (since as a husband he should defend his wife). But, in his thoughts, the dharma that would effect most number of people was more important than losing one person in his life. Yes he was wrong, but it's all about Dharma or Duty. One of the first instances of collision of duties is this part.

To all judging yudhishthir, I want to say that- 1. Duryodhan gave him a order to put his wife for gamble and when he opposed he said he is dharmbadh to chakravati samrat and everything. 2. So yudhishthir came up with an idea and he said sakuni to change the dice because he felt soemthing wring with the dice 3. When sakuni and duryodhan refused, even though he was a slave he crushed the dices in front of the sabha of hastinapura. And said them to bring new dice or stop the game. 4. But the cunning sakuni somehow joined the dice back again and told yudhishthir that it was new dices and not the ones made out of his father's ashes. 5. Therefore yudhishthir had no option except playing with them. 6. They could not have broken the dharma when draupadi was brought to the court by opposing the kauravas. But it doesn't mean he was not sad as well. He felt terrible too, because he loved draupadi as much. 7. He was wrong when he tried to prevent war but again it was dwarparyug and he was dharmaraj, he didn't want to tear down his own family. He knew not only kauravas will die but people of the country would be at loss. He thought of the welfare of Bharat. So therefore he swallowed his ego and was sacrifing his inner feeling of revenge for the well being of his family and the citizens of bharat at the time of dwaparyuga.

What kauravas did was totally wrong. A master cant force his servant (female) to give up her chastity. He don't have any right over her except to command her to serve them with materialistic things as other servants do. Yudhishtra went to hell not because he told a white lie. Mahabharata is very clear that he says " Ashwathama hatha" loudly and adds " kunjarah" under his breath, meaning that Ashwathama the elephant is dead. So he did not lie, not even a white lie. But he went to hell because he did not trust God at that moment. He disobeyed Krishna who asked him to say only " Ashwathama hatha". For this disobedience and loss of faith in the actions of Krishna he goes to hell

This is most probably a literal intepretation of Mahabharata. I dont think in reality any heaven(if at all there is something like that) would be comprised of worldly luxuries. THe idea that someone dying in in a battlefield automatically makes them qualify for a place in heave - or it pays of all their sinful debts is simply ridiculous.

You have not addressed the question at all. Firstly in the Bhagavad Gita. First chapter. Eshwara says to Parvati. One who listens to Bhagavad Gita will not die. Shukdev heard Eshwara's narration of Bhagavad Gita. Shukdev's father re affirms Eshwara's statement that if Shukdev has listened to Bhagavad Gita how can he die? Secondly Arjunaa listened to Bhagavad Gita from krishna 2 times. 1st is during the war. 2nd is 3 months after the war as vyasa expresses humans forgetfulness. So the revic question is How did Arjunaa die inspite of listening to Bhagavad Gita? and Secondly Arjunaa surrendered to krishna completely. Why did he go to hell inspite of surrenderring to krishna?

Aron Williams, you are asking logical questions. Krishna gave the verbal discourse to Arjun at the Mahabharatha war. Both Arjun and Krishna died without leaving any manuscript. After many centuries Bhagwat Geeta was first printed in the 15th century claiming to contain Krishna's word without any manuscript. LOL. Sri Ganesh was created by Shiva, who transplanted the head of a baby elephant over the beheaded body of his son is worshiped to remove life obstacles. The World's first transplant surgery was performed by Indian gods many centuries ago.

@@prosantomukerji3931Firstly Thankyou. Let me correct a small line. The one preserved in Indian Gurukul is mostly, Ugracheva's Mahabharata. Who was present in Janemejaya's snake sacrifice. Which was translated as it is by KM Ganguli in 1800's when Gurukul was about to be vanished from India. Thirdly, the head transplant. He is reffered as Gana not Kunjara or Gaja. Gana is a head that looks similar to an elephant but not the actual elephant. Each Gana has a different form. Elephant resemblance is also a form. You can see the carving of Gana in western Indian temples, the gana that resembles elephant. In hampi, hoishala, elephanta caves. After the modern period ie., 14th century, people had no idea about gana, because that creature is not of earth. they looked at the carving and called it elephant face.

Yudhisthira never had a 'gambling problem' as people in the comments are calling it. If one of the reasons Kauravas were in heaven was that they fulfilled their duty, the same should be applied to Yudhisthira. Dhritarashtra had asked Yudhisthira to participate in the game of dice after Kauravas had challenged him. In those days, a warrior should accept any challenge given to him, it was his duty. Not only that, but it was also Yudhisthira's duty as a nephew to obey the orders of his uncle, Dhritarashtra. Shakuni, aka one of the masterminds of Mahabharata, forced Yudhisthira to stake himself, his brothers, and his wife. Yudhisthira was helpless in front of Shakuni. ABSOLUTELY DO NOT judge anyone from the epics if you've only watched those dramatic serials and have not taken a single effort to read the actual thing. The serials change the plot to gain viewers. Oh, and one more thing; the epics were written down for the people of Kaliyuga (us) to learn from them, and not question them. Yudhisthira was called 'Dharmaraj' for a reason. Instead of searching for his mistakes, try to learn from him. Do not comment on anything as if you're the most sin-less person on Earth.
