People overacting, most of them not even see the movie but they are critiquing which is ridiculous. Kingsley did a good job as Bob, the accent wasnt perfect but it worked. Lashana Lynch stole the show as Rita. I couldnt tell she wasnt Jamaica. Her accent and mannerisms was 100% Jamaican, and by the way her parents are Jamaica. I would say this movie is for the mentally matured because it was so deep, it was fantastic.

I don’t believe certain people are giving the two lead actors their props. Paramount actually wanted Jamie Foxx in the lead role, but Ziggy suggested they should continue auditioning. He didn’t offer a shot to any of his brothers (they are all too old to play 30 year old Bob and front runner KyMani previously starred in a movie titled One Love. Two nephews were screentested - I’m not going to say who). Of all the actors who pitched, Ziggy liked Kingsley most. In my opinion, Kingsley’s performance justified Ziggy’s faith in him

Well, they showed flash backs of his past life…. When he was young, what the mother and father did to him. He stayed because of the music, it showed are he lived and all… Only thing they could really show more of , is his beginning years of performing and song writing. Cause he was already a famous & had songs written in the movie.

If you didn’t like the movie i’d recommend you to watch his documentary “Marley” released in 2012,it’s really good and almost brought me to tears. The script felt unfinished and the movie was too short. Many great scenes and scenarios were presented but most were short flashes and never developed. On top of that much license was taken with the factual history. Many characters and events were mashups of various people and different time periods. The music and the sound of the tracks in the theatre was the best thing about it. I would see it again for the music.

I understand the critics about the Bob Marley movie but it is also quite fun movie to watch. My feeling is that the film seems to have been made to restart the cash machine around the Marley name but anyway, in the continous tribulation times we cross, it is always good to have some positive energey around. Obviously, the film highlights Bob and Rita's relationship and leaves out a whole section of enormous importance in Marley's life and career: Coxsone, Lee Perry, Cindy Breakspeare, Peter and Bunny relashionship towards Bob ... which is quite strange in my opinion . As if a message wanted to be conveyed. I don't understand why the film is less than 2 hours long when a film in 2 parts could have been totally possible. Bob fought so many battles: professional battle, for his health... it could have been an encouragement for all the people who are currently going through these ordeals to see how Bob lived these different periods of his life. Another thing we don't see is the physical violence that Bob allegedly had towards Rita. In the film it is she who hits, not him, yet that is not what we hear. I still think that Rita played a huge role in Bob's career after his death and that she totally deserves the status she has today. She is the one responsible, the guardian of the Marley name and who fought heart and soul to preserve the legacy. I think Bob must be proud of what she accomplished for the family.

In my opinion, a more successful and oscar worthy version of a Bob Marley Biopic would be titled 'Rastaman'. Because Rastafarianism was the heart and Soul of Bob Marley's brief but colorful life. If the movie makers had gone with that, it would make an excellent foundation to tie together his childhood experiences, his musical career, his influence in the genesis of reggae music involving legendary producers like Lee Scratch Perry, Leslie Kong and Coxsone, his rise to super stardom, his falling out with Bunny and Peter, his relationship success and failures, the sociopolitical controversies he was involved in to his detetiorating health and last days. Also, I would expect it run up to 3 hours long and divided into chapters. With good editing, pacing, character intrigue, and killer soundtrack with original music score, 3 hours is nothing. Nolan's 'Oppenheimer' proved that. Oh well, a missed opportunity once again.

"You all sold out your people," SHUT UP! Bob Marley transitioned years ago. Why didn't Jamaican producers put in the fund & make a "Bob Marley" movie and cast all Jamaican actors if they so chose Bob Marley made Jamaica. Jamaica did not make Bob Marley. They tried to ki!! him and never supported him much during his music career. Bob Marley was more supported internationally, remember that! Jamaica did not support Bob until he transitioned, even though Bob Marley carried Jamaica in his heart. Despite the accent, all Bob Marley's children are not actors to carry off the movie with such impact. People all over need to understand the movie, and if done in the patois language, the understanding would be restricted to mostly JA audience only. Therefore, those ladies & others cussing & going off need to start sending +positive vibes, and make Jamaica feel proud today. They need to shup up, change their narrative, and embrace the legacy of this musical Jamaican icon & legend. "One Love❤ Let's get together & feel alright!"

She said that one of the reasons why she disliked that they chose a none Jamaican is because of the accent. I would have to disagree with her on that because it’s extremely hard to understand a real Jamaican accent as an American. It’s a beautiful tongue but for the mainstream English speaking audiences worldwide, they won’t understand what the person is saying. This would force them to put subtitles into the movie and it wouldn’t convey the message well to do this. Another thing is that maybe they couldn’t find the talent in Jamaica 🇯🇲 to play Bob Marley. This happens in film sometimes, even recently a Nigerian woman played Harriet Tubman and did a wonderful job. I’m African American and had no issue with her playing an African American woman. She fit the part visually and captured the spirit of who Harriet was so she got the job. And I’m saying that a look alike and sound alike isn’t in Jamaica 🇯🇲 to play Bob Marley??? No but you have to trust the judgement of the family to make that discernment. Also she said something about Black Americans are always trying to be yard boys or something like that. The actors were not American, they were from the UK so I’m not understanding why she has such prejudices towards black Americans. We aren’t even in the movie. Why does it always come down to an issue with people hating on African Americans is troubling to me.

I read other people’s comments and thought I would hate it. It was pretty good. His life was so colourful that to cover everything it would take hours and have to be spread over several movies. A good production by Ziggy and co. Most people that criticise it never actually saw it.

The movie was amazing! I wish it was longer. I'm 100% on Ziggy's side. I'm Jamaican, and I would have sold them out as well. It's funny how the radio station in Jamaica refused to play Bob's music back in the day. He was a crazy Rasta bwoy. Most Jamaicans did not support his music. He had to go abroad to get acknowledged. Move and gwan from yahso. You can't please everyone. Sometimes, you have to choose who is going to represent you the best. In this case, it was not a Jamaican. Who cares? Bob was for the people, not just Jamaicans. His children continue his legacy. They could have been worthless and simply burn the money. They did not... they add more value to what he started. They work extremely hard as well. Be happy that we are in theater all over the world. Most Americans were unable to understand the language in the movie even though it was not a Jamaican.

I've been coming to Jamaica for over 50 years. I'm the youngest hippie to do so. 3 trips when I was 17. I've lived here now for over 10 years. This I know about potois. It can not be taught. You can learn the words and some of the inflection, but you can not be taught the emotion and cadence that makes potois what it is. You must be born into it. Not having a Jamaican play, Bob Marley is like making rum punch without the rum. It just can't be done. I tried watching the trailers and only made it about 20 seconds and had to turn it off. This man was too great, and his message so strong that any attempt to copy it is impossible. One love and stay irie.

I don't know why the negative reviews. The people I know who have seen it sobbed and were very moved by it. Yes there was sooooo much more to his life but there are also countless documentaries about it all. This movie was just a snapshot of a small timespan of his life. It was just to try to portray his main ESSENCE, not tell his whole story. Maybe Ziggy wanted his father remembered for the essence of his soul and for his legacy. It's called ONE LOVE! And I will add that his legacy was way bigger than his nationality. His nationality was just a piece of his earthly incarnation.

I agree, im not happy about the actor playing marley, why couldn't you find a real jamaican actor instead of phony English man. Im 68, i grew up in my teens saw him at maple leaf gardens in Toronto. I dated a true jamaican rasta at 19, met him at my first job. He taught me so much about rasta, didnt eat meat, the music and religion. I loved him so much. His name was Winston. We eventually broke up, we did love eachother, but the religion and cultural differences ended our relationship. He also had a woman who was pregnant and a rasta like him, hid it from me. I found out hard way. So i cried walked away, years later he came to me wanting to move in with me, he was eating meat and drinking beer, said he learned a lot and changed. He taught me everything about marley, Juda, king of kings, but it was too late. I wasn't interested anymore. I still miss him 40 years later. Winston O'Hara.

I watched Ziggy Marley live in concert a couple of years ago and he blew me away..He played a lot of his father's songs and a few of his own. But I get why Jamaicans don't like it, I'm from Liverpool and I've never heard any not from here able to do the accent.

Just finished seeing the movie. It was amazing. There's no way it can cover his entire 36 years on earth but it covers the Jah Rastafari message. The love, foundation and understanding of Bob and Rita. The global reach of his music but more importantly his views and source of his writing. JA artistd dont get much credit for their writing abilities but Bob was FIRST CLASS as an ORIGINAL songwriter. I'm glad he was able to perform in Afrcia - because Africa WAS NOT A MONEY TING 😂

I think the critics are definitely overreacting. I saw the movie and loved it! Paramount pictures spent a lot of money to make this movie and have their reputation to maintain so they didn't want to take a chance with the acting. They hired people who can act. Movies are about acting! When you watch an American movie, sometimes the lead actors are from other countries but you don't hear anyone complaining what they can't use American actor. I knew this movie would upset some people because that called life. You can't please everyone. I cried during some parts of the movie because I was so proud! Bod has been dead for a long time so critics, just be proud that someone had the idea to make a movie about the greatest reggae superstar of all times cause it might never happen to happen. Give tanks, Jah, Rastafari!!

From my perspective, I give the film 6/10. If I were to make a movie based on a real life person, I'd do my best to cram in as much of their life as possible. With regards to the film, there's chunks that were missed out and things that were glossed over. And that's one of the disappointments for me. The other thing that disappoints me is that to hear there were no Jamaican actors good enough to play Bob. I don't believe that for one micro second. As was said, one of the sons could've played their father because all of them look like Bob. I personally think that this was more catered for Hollywood, rather than a depiction of the life of Bob.

Just finished watching the movie. It felt a little rushed. Touched on Bob Marley’s purpose and reasoning well. The accents were off for those who know. No actual Jamaicans playing Bob or Rita, sadly. I live in New Orleans and recently met one of his grandsons and at a Second Line back in Jan this year. Not feeling it. So it felt white washed and like a sellout. Almost like a musical. First part was slow, rest of the movie picked up. Got kinda messy with his and his wife’s affairs. The message was still received overall. Hey, it’s all we have for now so I went out to support.
