48% of Americans profess to believe in ghosts, and around a quarter say that they've actually seen a ghost before. I wanted to find out if there was any proof of their existence, so I spoke with Joe Nickell, allegedly the world's only paranormal investigator who had researched reported hauntings for almost 50 years.
He says that he's never seen any evidence that would point towards the existence of ghosts. Nickell walks us through the various scientific explanations for why people think they see ghosts, including sleep paralysis, waking dreams, traumatic grief, and exposure to infrasound.
So even though there may be no evidence that ghosts exist, that doesn't mean that you might not see one.

They probably do but are seen as customers. I met a lady who owned a new age shop and she said she could see them. They walked into the shop during trading hours, walked around look at stuff, then went to the register and left. She said she only figured out they were ghosts because they did not respond when talked to and seemed vague but they looked to her as real as any living human - it didn't happen often but often enough, - Oh! they also did not buy anything,

This makes a lot of assumptions - that they all stay in the same dimension or that there is no such thing as reincarnation or other types of afterlife that various religions try to explain, also makes the assumption that they’d have to stay on earth...

@kirwi I didn't say they exist nor don't exist, I haven't said one way or the other, I make no assumptions, until we can disprove one way or another I don't dismiss it. That is my main point. Mathematically other dimensions are possible to exist, but that doesn't mean that they do, its also possible that they do exist, but maybe perhaps nothing can exist in them. I've also never heard of an in-depth study into reincarnation, other than into accounts of people recounting what they believe is a previous life experience - this neither proves nor disproves, I think until there is an in-depth study that can say one way or another, I think it is wrong to dismiss it.

It actually makes perfect sense. If the brain can't see what's in those dark woods, it's not gonna take the chance that there isn't a wolf in there, it's gonna assume that there IS a wolf in there and tell your body to get the hell out as fast as possible.

My grandfather was a shaman, and from What I can see, it’s just psychological. But his ability in making people feel safer for free? that’s real and effective. What’s horrible is people/hunters profiting from the suffering of people by charging them money for seances, exorcisms that ends up hurting the person.

@@chen2789 there are cases of people dying from exorcisms. Loads of people with mental issues and other diseases have suffered and been refused proper help because someone thought they were possessed. Superstition and the belief in the supernatural have hurt far more than they have healed. Just look up the case of Anneliese Michel if you like an example.

Right after my grandpa died, I had a dream where he and I were in his kitchen eating fantastic, expensive streak (way out of character) on paper plates with those plastic support dishes (a staple in his house). We had a talk where he told me that it was alright, but after this, we wouldn't see each other again. It was just his time to go, and he didn't want to leave any loose ends. Man after having experienced sleep paralysis once I don't blame anyone thinking it was ghosts. It is the most eery and terrifying, creepy experience. I know 100% it was sleep paralysis but STILL I am creeped out thinking about it 20 years later!!

When I was 7-9 I had a full conversation with something knocking on my parent's bathroom wall. I remember asking yes or no questions and there would be 1 knock for yes, 2 knocks for no, and 3 for neutral/unknown. No one was home at the time, and this went on for about 30 minutes. And I want to believe it was just a rat in the wall or something.. But it was rather odd. I ended up concluding with it was a woman, aged around 17? She wasn't apparently there to hurt me, and was a spirit?? Honestly, it could have just been a weird series of a rodent moving around in the wall but guess I'll never know. All I remember is the knocks being faint but clear enough to sound like someone knocking. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ (Still don't really think ghost are real, but who knows)

Ghost 115 this is the weirdest thing that happen to me. So when I was about one in a half me and my mom screamed because we saw our cousin in a dead form (he did like a day ago) and so there was a white thing around his body. My Grandmom coming down the stairs saying what’s wrong I am around underneath the table and she sees nothing on the couch and says where is this ghost? And so then since my mom and me could see it we where going to show Grandmom he was there so I sat on him.

I saw one when I was younger, when I was in this Cadet type military camp in the woods. Saw a shadowy man kinda walking towards me slowly, he was about 7metres away and I was paralized with fear, it was mid night but I could see it because a ray of my friends flashlight was partially hitting it. Few seconds later I looked away for a split second and it was gone, really frightening.

I had a ghost experience I couldn't explain. Saw one at my aunts new home within a few minutes of being in the upstairs by myself. Saw a person moving back and worth in her bedroom. Everyone else was on the first floor. I told my aunt and mom about it and my aunt said they had been having experiences in the home. I can't explain it. Apparently, the ghost left a couple years later. The next time, I was there had no more experiences.

I work nights in a loud bearing factory. I'm crossed trained in several departments. Each department sounds different, but has its own repetitive sound whether it be by moving tumblers, parts running through a furnace, or wire going through a cut off machine. That, along with sleep deprivation and the glowing luminescence of fluorescent lighting create the illusion that someone is standing near you.

My grandma ALWAYS talks about seeing and hearing ghosts. she always tells us stories about having conversations with ghosts in her house and talks about how her dead ex boyfriend won't leave her alone. When she's at either of my sisters house (both of their houses are old) and she says she see's or "feels" ghosts when at their houses. Idk if shes having hallucinations but i just find it odd and wish i knew why she is seeing and hearing ghosts

In Hebrew, "Ghost" is two words, and one of them means "wind". It makes a lot of sense as many times it's just the wind causing weird things and sounds.

I was in my bedroom a few months back and it was only my Dad, me and my brother in the house, I was just chilling until I heard two loud knocks on my door. I asked “Yeah?” But got no response. I opened the door, checked where everyone was. My Dad was in the garage doing work as usual, he said he didn’t hear anything and my brother was in the front room on his phone. My brother isn’t the prankster type at all so I’m pretty sure it must’ve been a spirit of some sort.

That happened to me once. Somewhere between sleep and wake, because of extreme fear, I couldn't move my body at all. It was very surprising. I was asleep and was scared of something in the room. After about 15-20 mins in such a state, I got up and turned on the light. It was nothing.

I looked for this video because I work in a coalmine. The part of the coalmine I work in is from the 1970s, and this certain area freaks me out and I work there alone sometimes. Supposedly there was an explosion there at some point that took lives, and it just makes me so afraid. I feel a constant anxiety and the need to look around to just check.. mind you, this behavior was prior to hearing about the explosion.

It was a brand new office in fact, but the conference room terrified me & apparently I wasn't alone. I wonder if infrasound caused it, & if it also is created in your coalmine due to wind?
