My problem was that they basically took the OG games, made it worse, turned it into 3D and didn’t really add anything new. Even platinum had more things added than BDSP. It should’ve been like ORAS where they added so much new things from mechanics to Redesigns to plot, that it basically felt like a new game but still felt true to the original… ORAS is how a REMAKE should be

The rhetorical question where you asked if Pokémon devs just puts minimal effort because they know the games will sell millions of copies regardless, the answer is an astounding yes.

HGSS and ORAS have the most important mechanics to include into any remake going forward - HGSS and ORAS have *SO MUCH* content, with the latter even acknowledging the things that came out after Hoenn and redesign the region around that to truly make it feel like a modern retelling rather than being 1:1.

BDSP was soul crushing for me. My life revolved around Gen 4 back in 07 when DP were released. All my friends were just as immersed as I was in the world. DPPT are games I hold very close to me. But BDSP? It broke my heart. Instead of an ORAS style remake we got a remaster that’s not even as good as platinum… Now I’ll never get the chance to see Sinnho reimagined (even if PLA exists). It’s the first time I’ve ever felt hurt by a video game.

The fact they managed to remake the Shaymin glitch and didn’t account for the fact that the main character could now travel in 8 directions rather than 4 in Snowpoint gym, allowing you to just bypass the puzzle by pointing the joystick up and slightly to the left/right is amazing

As a Leafeon lover who always has a Leafeon on my team whenever I play platinum, you cannot imagine my disappointment when they decided to revert back to the “yeah you’ll get an eevee AFTER you beat the game” in BDSP :(

HeartGold and SoulSilver are still, and unfortunately always will be, the peak of Pokémon remakes. They're amazing games, the best in the series in my opinion, but it’s really sad to know and see that gamefreak just hasn't and isn't going to put that same indie love and passion into their mainline Pokémon games anymore.

Heartgold and Soulsilver were the best remakes just because they allowed you to have 16 BADGES and can travel to the Kanto Region which NO OTHER POKEMON GAME can do. It was just insane to go back to the Kanto region after beating the Johto Gym Leaders and E4 and was unexpected to even surpass collecting 8+ badges.

I was really disappointed with BDSP because the climax is kind of bland. The red chain breaks and then team galactic are just like “oh well, I guess that’s it” and leave. There was also no cutscene where the sky goes all crazy like in the originals

The thing that disappointed me the most with BDSP is the lack of character redesigns. I liked seeing the characters getting refreshed designs for the current age. In ORAS, characters like Maxie and Archie got massive glow ups. I also love how Pokémon remakes may introduce new characters for certain features, such as Aarune for secret bases and Lisia for contests in ORAS, and Celio for the Pokémon Network Center, a feature allowing you to connect to other Gen 3 games in FRLG. BDSP didn’t have any character redesigns or any new characters for the new features. Imagine if we got a new character to introduce us to Ramanas Park, or redesigns for any of the characters in BDSP.

i think that everyone’s favorite pokémon generation usually being the first one they played makes a lot of sense seeing that pretty much most of all pokémon games following the same pattern, therefore the first one the person plays feels the most original and most memorable

What concerns me is the fact that multiple 3D iterations later and you can really see gamefreak and sub studios struggling in the 3D aspect of the development. Many decisions and assets in the game raise an eyebrow really quick to anyone with any sort of industry oriented graphics experience. From literal seams in the meshes (rather than UV seams) to blending multiple rendering pipelines, to how they handle asset management, it's no surprise that many of the core titles can't maintain beyond a 30 lock. Combine this with multiple other issues, and I genuinely think GameFreak has reached a point the name itself sells the series and as such they are focused pretty much exclusively on profit over quality. The reason for this is left to speculation, but something to keep in mind is Pokemon is almost if not 3 decades old now. 30 years is a long time for the creator to keep things up, and he isn't exactly hurting for money either. If anything from the 3DS to now has shown me anything about GameFreak, it is that they are indeed 2D devs messing in 3D space and just no longer really care for the same values they had back at it's inception.

For me, the true remake is Legends: Arceus. A Legends: Kyurem is all that I need for Gen 5.

I feel like Firered and Leafgreen are underestimated as remakes so hard. They were fantastic as remakes. The entire Sevii islands were such a fun postgame experience, that I really missed in Let's Go. I really thought LG was the worst when it came out, because it added so little new stuff. But now that BDSP are a thing even LG seems fantastic, since they did add SOME new stuff. The art direction and style was great. The pokemon were to scale and had some texture to them. The best looking pokemon games on the Switch imo. Lackluster on new content, but way better than BDSP. Still, FRLG will stay my go-to for the optimal and most complete Kanto experience.

What I always wished for a remake, was that they actually change and upgrade the content. Like dont give the trainers the same pokemonn they had in the og games. We now have a vast amount of pokemon from each type. So why give the trainers all the same team ??? And tbh I actually prefered ORAS over HGSS. As they didnt address Johtos biggest flaws in the leveling curve in the mid and late game.

Personally I would love to see the Pokémon Black and White remakes include their sequels as DLC. Important to remember that Pokémon White 2 actually takes place after Pokémon Black because you received the legendary dragon that N had from the first game (which in black it was reshiram). Not only would you get both legendaries, but it’s also worth considering that Reshiram, Zekrom, and Kyurem are technically parts of the same dragon. So if it was DLC (or post game content) we could finally get to see the dragon they make when all of them combine. Since the characters you play as in Black 2 and White 2 are different from the first games, maybe it could be one of those separate story things, and at the end of black 2/white 2 you fight the team that you finished with in the first games. Ultimately I think it would end with you being able to play as either of them and of course combine your Pokémon storage. How would you guys go about adapting the second games? Would you perhaps do what was originally done and have them come out separately?

my concern with gen 5 remakes is game freak will let ilca make them and we will end up never seeing any of the bw2 content again... bc if they couldn't add platinum content to bdsp there is NO WAY they're smushing together two whole games;;;;

Interesting topic, even with FRLG as remakes of the original RGB/Y, they were able to add all the Pokémon(in the Kanto-Honnen Dex at the time) in the game and made them available to the player(s) buy getting multiple games.

Diamond and Pearl have a special place in my heart, first mainline pokemon game i played, and i played it a lot. I was exited for years about an eventual remake of my childhood game, and the thought of diamond and pearl remake on the switch and experiencing the sinnoh region in modern 3D graphics made me so exited. It was a nice remaster, but compared to what we expected compared to previous remakes, it breaks my heart to know I will never experience sinnoh again like i imagined for many years...

Something I would like to see is a "Complete Kyurem." Since it's stated that when Reshiram and Zekrom split from the original dragon, Kyurem was what was left, I'd like to see what Kyurem supposedly originally looked like and could do

There are multiple games (not just Pkmn) where I've asked myself the question of "why can passionate unofficial Developers/Modders make these things that people want, and the company can't?". What I came up with is that 3rd word: *Passionate*. The unofficial people create these things in their own time out of a passion for what they (and others) want/enjoy, whereas, even if the company knew what we wanted...there's a handful of employees who (whether passionate about the games or not), would ask for thousands of dollars for every hour worked on these "Extra" features. It's likely not out of laziness that we don't get what we want, but them only going as far as they really "need" to. When it comes to remakes that were on handhelds like GBA or 3DS, i'm fairly certain it takes significantly less work compared to the newer games like BDSP, SWSH, and SCVI. They were typically working on weaker systems, with mostly pixel art and the occasional cutscene, if any. Stuff like that takes time and money for the developers, not so much for the passionate unofficial developer/modder who works on their own time and without a deadline in most cases.

Personally for me its the chibi and the way the character / following pokemon walks. If you go near a ledge, it automatically counts as two steps so you get sucked in and jumped off a ledge, this is specially hard when you are trying to go up to Mt. Coronet. Like come on ILCA, of all the things you had to make it suck its the movement and your walking buddy getting constantly stuck. Also the standard formula is basically following the current gen graphics but BDSP, instead of following the better Gen 8 graphics, they didnt. Of all the remakes, this one was not made with love, this one was rushed to make a quick cash grab before PLA. Gamefreak should not have gave it to ILCA to handle. I'd rather not them have gen 5 remakes if they are just going to chibify it with the bad pokemon following animation.

Oras with addition of post game delta episode is damn good

FireRed and LeafGreen: Enhanced experience of the original Red and Blue. Used the same engine that Ruby, Sapphire and Emerald did. Added an entirely new sub-region in the Sevii Islands. HeartGold and SoulSilver: Took everything great about Gold and Silver and cranked it up to 11. More than enough new features to keep you interested and playing for months on end or even longer. Used the same engine that Diamond, Pearl and Platinum did. Contained almost all of the additional content from Crystal. OmegaRuby and AlphaSapphire: IMO the best remakes we've gotten so far. All the best of Ruby and Sapphire and then some on top of that. Plenty of new features. Mega evolution. Soaring. DexNav. Took content from Emerald and made it even better, introducing one of the best characters we've ever seen in Pokémon, Zinnia. Used the same engine that X and Y did. Let's Go Pikachu and Eevee: Techinally remakes of Yellow which I believe was a great idea. Switched up the story of RBY ever so slightly which makes the games feel new yet so familiar. Introduced Go catching mechanic to main series Pokémon which while controversial, was a hit for many players. These games don't do anything that really blow you away but they're solid remakes. Used (seemingly) the same engine Sword and Shield did, though Let's Go arguably looks a bit better than SwSh did. Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl: These games do not enhance the experience of the original Diamond and Pearl. People will argue that they do but I just don't see it. Many of us believe that the original games look nicer and have more charm to them than these remakes do. They do not use the same engine as Sword and Shield, which is a first for Pokémon remakes to not use the engine that current gen games do. The games barely contain any Platinum content and none of it is what any of us wanted. Almost every single prior remake has included the majority of the 3rd game of that gen's features and content despite being named after the first games of the generation. The games are buggy, unpolished and were obviously released in a completely rushed state. I don't know what more to say about BDSP other than I'm tired of hearing the same old defense for it. "It's a Diamond and Pearl remake not a Platinum remake!" has to be the most annoying one of all. Sometimes I feel like we overhyped the whole gen 4 remake thing but I much more feel like they just failed to deliver on something we had bigger dreams for.

As a 31 year old man, Gen 3 is my favorite. Hoenn is my favorite region and i actually love ORAS even though there is no Battle Frontier because the DexNav and Soaring for me, were the best. The Sevii Islands make FireRed and LeafGreen the definitive Kanto experience since they haven't made a return since and give Kanto more depth especially with the Johto Pokemon added in. I would gladly have taken BDSP in the vein of past remakes with Dynamax added in the lore and in the SwSh style cause playing them felt like a chore as everything outside of the new underground felt like a chore as i had already put in 200+ hours of Diamond as a kid.

Short Answer: minimum of new conent. Look at heart gold/soul silver, black & white 2. This are decent Example of what pokemon should have. Also, they cut Content from platinium.

I was so excited for these remakes, only to never finish my playthrough months in. I think my experience with ORAS/HGSS really set the standards, even as one of the few people who was ok with the game being much more true to original. I think a major problem was that (or so I've heard) they took the codebase for the DS games and just added on some art/control improvements. Havent tried myself, but a good chunk of people were reporting all glitches from DPP were possible in these new switch games. Even though I love that I can do these glitches on modern console, I think it seriously limited the amount of updates/content they could include for the worse.

I feel like all the heart and soul that should've gone into BDSP went into Legends Arceus. Arceus really feels like the celebration of Gen 4 that I wanted from The Sinnoh remakes.

To give credit where its due, ILCA knows how to make battles more difficult. Noticed more trainers use held items, and the all the new E4/Gym leader rematches? You can even fight major characters, including Team Galactic!, in the Battle Tower. My favorite addition is the new Dawn/Lucas fight; something I always wanted! Too bad it's only on weekends post game and not during the story, but still a great addition. BDSP just needed more stuff like this.

I think the chibi art style bothered me the most, since it was the first thing I saw. It just felt so off in relation to the current gen and so similar to the older gens that it left me feeling a little uncomfy and couldn't pay attention to anything else. It was so bad I had to drop the game.

What I liked about Gen 4 and Gen 6/7 was that there was a lot of cross play between generations. You could be in Hoenn playing against someone in Kalos. The Switch era has kinda sucked in this regard. We technically have 4 regions and very little cross-play.

If they make Black and White remakes I agree with a lot of your points, but I will still die on this hill I'm standing on, which is that they need to have the option to switch the EXP share off, and, if they go with a free roam set up like Scarlet and Violet, then there needs to be some sort of levelling up system for the Gym Leaders, so you don't end up missing one, coming back at Lv. 50 and discovering you have a team vastly over-levelled for the Gym Leader with their Lv. 17 main Pokémon. Black and White remakes would need features from Black and White 2, I'd really like to see an upgrade to the movie making experience from those games.

I think battle frontier should be mandatory in every game. It’s truly the only post game content besides battling other people

What I love about the Generation 5 games are the way they handled the scale of the environment with the chibi pixel art. If they use the style from Scarlet and Violet, I'd love to turn the camera around to be in awe when looking at the bridges like Sky Arrow Bridge, and the highlight settlement Castelia City. This city in particular makes it feel that this city is surrounded by tall buildings. Do it in SV style with free camera, angle it up and you can feel you are in a metropolis.

if they mess up generation 5 remakes imma be so annoyed. especially when it comes to the story. they story in black and white is the best story theyve ever had (scarlet/violet are close) and if they mess it up, it could ruin generation 5 for a lot of ppl

The argument that "it's not a Platinum remake" falls flat when HGSS had Crystal content and ORAS had hints of Emerald content in the Delta chapter.

I have Soulsilver and it's so fun! Team rocket is not too easy to defeat, the grunts yes but it took me 4 times to beat Gionavvi 2 years ago. It was hard but so satisfying when i win! The following pokemons are cute, they can find items that i can use to take pictures which is nice plus all their reactions are adorable 🥰It works with shinies too, that's cool! I have a shiny Roserade and a shiny Rapidash; i found them without the shiny charm; luck was on my side. I was so happy when i catch them. They are my precious partners, i'm gonna train them so we can defeat the league together. The music is sublime, the towns are charming. It's an excellent remake!

Having played all the way since the originals, I loved Gen 1, but Gen 2 is my favourite generation. Fixed a lot of the really broken stuff about Gen 1, and added so much cool stuff like day/night cycles, held items, dark and steel type and then on top of that it had a killer soundtrack and added Kanto as a bonus region. HGSS were also incredible games that captured the spirit of Gen 2 to perfection. Honestly though, all Gens, 1 through 5, have their virtues. Things unfortunately went downhill with the transition to 3D and Game Freak haven't got it figured out yet.

I swear to god somebody high up at game freak or maybe just the whole team has to hate diamond, pearl and platinum. It's not just this insulting excuse of a remake. In general there has been no support for the generation at all. Legends arceus was hardly a gen 4 game. The starters were from different generations and the region didn't resemble sinnoh in the slightest. Not to mention that game actually gave more love to other generations with the regional variants and enamorous the extra member of the genie trio which was out of nowhere and just happens to be garchomp's kryptonite in gen 9. The biggest indicator for me is pokemon variants. Not a single regional variant or paradox pokemon version for any gen 4 pokemon (iron valiant is explicitly stated on bulbapedia to take traits from both gallade and gardevoir). The surrounding generations have had numerous regional variants for their native pokemon, especially gen 5. Which doesn't have an obvious explanation why. Diamond and pearl sold very well and on a pretty massive poll were voted as japan's fave pokemon games. Both legends arceus and BDSP had the shortest run of support for any pokemon game before being replaced with scarlet and violet. Having gen 4 as one of your favorite generations is just pain. I would've been happy if they had simply done the graphics in the style of gen 8 being able to explore sinnoh in 3d like that and nothing else. But they failed even that. Was a good wakeup call to finally step away from pokemon for good though. The worst thing is that even if they get their act together and make a decent gen 5 remake i should be happy but i'm going to feel even more crushed. It had to be my fave gen that got the only pile of crap as a remake out of all of them.

Platinum was one of my favourite games to play as a kid, and I was so excited to play the remakes. As much as a I love Generation IV, the remake games didn’t have the same charm that the originals had. I also loved contests, and was disappointed they were reworked into a shell of its former self.

I can't say I didn't have fun with BDSP for a while, but compared to FRLG, HGSS and ORAS which each brought in a load of new content and features, fixed a majority of the issues of the originals and maintained compatibility with the other games of that gen, the game didn't feel like "Brilliant Diamond/Shining Pearl" but more so just Diamond/Pearl HD. Whatever is next, I just hope the main series games of a generation aren't nearly as disconnected from each other as SS and BDSP were.

8:22 I don't know to wich degree this is true considering how broken d-max and g-max were. VGC still allowed it, but in Smogon it was banned from OU and all tiers below and was heavily limited in Ubers, so I think they should've advocate for bringing back megas and z-moves instead.

renegade platinum with the follower mod and the colors mod is really the definitive way to experience gen 4 i think. if you don't mind a bit of difficulty it's really perfect. pokemon diamond was my first pokemon game and though bdsp was fun i was disappointed that it wasn't as good as it should've been.

The Pokémon remakes before BD/SP were amazing. They strengthened pretty much every aspect of the original games while adding new content, not taking it away. While I haven’t played AS/OR or BD/SP, FireRed, LeafGreen, and SoulSilver are some of my favorite games in the series. They made games that were already amazing so much more enjoyable for both new players and old. I can only hope the Gen V remakes aren’t treated as another minimal-effort cash cow.

I think part of the reason fan-game makers can appeal to the community more is A. because they're not working under strict rules like ILCA and Gamefreak are, so they're more free to be creative and add what they want to the games, and B. because Pokemon isn't solely for the online fanbase. It's a global IP that people of literally all ages play, and so when making a game, TPC needs to be able to cater to all those communities at once, not just the online community

Gen IV is still my favourite of all (yes, there were pre-Online, pre-Showdown days, and I think only really started to become a thing around this time), and seeing this happen, what they'd done to Sinnoh, is execrable. I tried to get back into my current game recently, and I just can't. Having fun with SV though in spite of it all.

I didn't play any pokemon games after finishing Sapphire. Original Sapphire, not the Alpha one. It was only last year that I got back into Pokemon, and Brilliant Diamond struck the perfect balance between the familiar 2D vibe with modern and 3D touches here and there. It reinvigorated my interest in the franchise, and for that I continue to be thankful. So whatever else it is for other people, it was a great bridge for bringing me back from my nearly 2-decade hiatus.

It works as a remake in the sense that they literally made the game again for a new audience that didnt get to experience the originals. The thing is that unlike every other remake it doesn’t try to be anything more than the originals where as every other remake went above and beyond to be far more than the originals were, adding the new pokemon and new features present in the current generation that werent in the originals

Black 2 and White 2 don't need remakes just ports imo

I find it so weird that Megas are considered a generation gimmick now, considering Megas were in the games for 2 generations I know sun and moon didn't focus on them but it did feel like they were here to stay and sun and moon were just focusing on another new mechanic

Gen 5 is my favorite generation of Pokémon, it wasn't my first game of the franchise but definitely one I played alot growing up as a kid. One thing I'd want to see in a Gen 5 remake is the re-introduction of mega evolution. Dynamax is a 3 turn long joke to me that's easily cheesed, and while I find Terra Pokémon interesting with the idea that a Pokémon could be ANY type and leads to alot twists (like a Pokémon that's weak to fighting turning psychic to turn the tables) that's all it really has to offer. Meanwhile Mega Evolution allowed a Pokémon to change typing, stats, abilities, all while having a generally awesome looking design to them. This idea isn't mine for sure, I'm pretty sure I got this idea from somewhere (or someone) else and just can't remember where I found it. Anyways i really like the idea of Gamefreak going back to pixel art but keeping it within a modern engine. 3D models of all our favorite Pokémon and environments are cool don't get me wrong, I loved the 3DS games but I don't want to see Unova come this huge sprawling world to free roam or end up becoming this 3D environment where every texture looks like someone waxed the hell out of it. I'd love to see Unova pixelated but perhaps more detailed, it could keep the same style of the old game but not need to keep it's limitations. I'd rather not there be dlc at all and let there just be the game by itself. Though if there was to be dlc, we've seen Kuryem, White and Black Kuryem, but never the Kuryem who is whole. A side story or a dlc based around the mystery and story about Kuryem becoming whole again would be awesome! Getting to encounter a Pokémon we have only been able to speculate about and having the chance to fight or even capture it would be amazing!

Just curious if you did any actual research on the company and what their plan for the games were. They wanted all the platinum content and they also wanted it to be in the style of arceus, they openly admitted this and released their art books and said that they were told not to make those games, then content was directly ripped from what they wanted to do and used for arceus instead it was not Illcas fault do not blame them

I would really would want a BW remake in the current SV style or at least similar. I'm imagining the huge Castelia City, lush routes, and all the grand bridges. I hope they learn from recent games and take their time to optimize and have performance at least on par to SWSH. But one can only hope.

BDSP should've had its own Delta Episode involving Giratina and the Distortion World. I understand not wanting to mess with the pre-Hall of Fame story from Diamond and Pearl in what are ostensibly remakes of Diamond and Pearl (no matter how many Platinum quality-of-life adjustments they brought over), but that doesn't mean they couldn't have repurposed elements from Platinum's story for a post-Hall of Fame storyline. Speaking of unfairly ignored Platinum content, why don't we have any post-game storylines involving Looker or Charon? Heck, the latter even got replaced with a nameless grunt on one of the special box wallpapers; leaving his silhouette on it then properly introducing him after the credits roll would be such delicious foreshadowing.

I was hoping for a remake on the level of ORAS. The faithful remake is alright for what it is, but I wanted the new character models to have a truly fresh playthrough of DP. Also, they didn't give us distortion world, and the Platinum version of the endgame zone.

I know BDSP are unpopular online, but I had a rare positive experience with them. I picked up Shining Pearl on Black Friday, and I’ve loved my play through. First Pokémon game since Alpha Sapphire. It’s nice to unwind with at the end of each day.

At 11:55, I dont know if this is a longshot, but just IMAGINE if u held all the lake guardians at the same time, you could open a new reality and get through the wall with so much more content to explore and pokemon to catch. I remember I always thought there whould be a way to do that, but I guess I dreamt it and stuck by me forever.

Another problem with the remakes is that starting with DS, there are two per console. If a BW remake does not come out for Switch, we will be a gen behind with remakes.

For me, it was 100% the Chibi art that was the issue. Gen 8 wasn’t perfect art wise, but it’s 10 times better than weird chibi stuff :(

I think they should do a B/W 3 when they revisit gen 5 rather than a remake since there's so much content.......and keep that same energy for future old gen revisits (gen 7 in particular)

When it comes to upper, third versions of the games in generations getting remakes I do think they should be remade but I don't think they should be made into their own game/separate cartridge and sold for a new price like the originals were. I think on the remakes for the games we got, the third version should have been built into those games as well, as an unlockable prize for beating the game the first time. And it's not really two games in one cartridge because the third version that comes out after the first two is just an updated version of the same two first games.

For someone who wants to play a new Pokémon. I haven’t played anything between the old gameboy and gameboy color ones and the 64 stadium. So I’m kinda lost on what game I should try out on a switch first. The newest one sounds kinda like a terd with all its performance problems and bugs. Should I start with these if new is the only option due to insane used prices?

I was way too young when I played the previous games (I stopped at White when I was in middle school), so I don't feel the downgrades and in fact I really enjoyed Shining Pearl. But I can see the disappointment when compared to previous entries.

Nintendo should make a VR headset that is like the apple vision pro where u can still see stuff and it’s clear but on the screen you can basically play real life Pokémon go, instead of carrying your phone and looking at a screen to see a map and some Pokémon, make a VR that will let you see everything, two controllers on shaped like a poke ball and the other as a cursor, you can attach the poke ball to your wrist and throw it at a Pokémon to try and catch it, once u do you can put it in your box or in your party and can fight in gyms, raids, fight team rocket, collect Pokémon and interact with them all in real time real space, if you look to the sky u can even find flying Pokémon and they will only spawn in areas that matches their type, so charizard can be found in mountains and blastoise in beaches and venasaur in forests, however Pokemon like new two can only be caught at team rocket bases. Pokemon centers and shops can be found in poke stops and you can choose to buy whatever u want . Pokemon can be caught by walking up to them and clicking ur cursor, then ull be sent into a turn based system where u tell ur Pokémon what to do via microphone built in with vr or by selecting it. (KEEP REPOSTING THIS ON ALL POKÉMON GO OR POKÉMON VIDEOS TO SPREAD THE MESSAGE TO NINTENDO)

I'm only 3 minutes in, but I will say that I was surprised that they didn't give us a "Distortion Episode" like they did with ORAS and the Delta Episode. I think it would've make the post game sick while tying in some of the lore from Platinum

I find BDSP to just be an overall downgrade to DP. Maybe besides the surfing speed, I guess. The forced EXP Share is an absolute game killer. It works perfectly well in an open world like Legends Arceus and SV, but it is just detrimental when it comes to the old style. I was struggling so hard to keep Rhyhorn on a similar level to the rest of my team. I had to spam rare candies and always use Rhyhorn in front of my team to have it keep up with the rest of my team that I wasn't even using. You could argue I should just box my team (people have argued this), but then I might run into situations where I need to switch or risk losing the fight because I am up against some water type or something.

You presented each argument in a calm and collective manner, while also backing up your claims and not shying away from highlighting the additions and features you liked about BDSP. Many people are passionate about this topic, and as such, get very angry when creating their own videos, turning the videos into more so biased rants rather than an informed opinion piece.

can't say much on the topic as I skipped gen 4 and 5 (except Heart Gold) and I couldn't really get into BDSP much. I think I got 3 badges only? I still want to go back and at least finish the league, but well... time has passed and now I've got 140 hours into Violet. Also hearing about all its problems and how it doesn't include a lot of the Platinum content you'd want to experience, especially when playing it for the first time, has really lowered my motivation for BDSP. Finally, I would have loved to get Shaymin and Darkrai but I think I missed the events. I really dislike the old-fashioned distribution events and would have liked them to move on from that and add the mythicals to the game. They're not fun to collect, they're years of waiting an utter pain when you miss them. And speaking of legendaries (and mythicals), you do hit the mark - I indeed wish you had to work for it too. Explore caves, do puzzles, etc., like in the old days. Just codes aren't fun anyway

This game worked for me because Pearl was my first game, so I was happy to revisit that experience. But I couldn’t help feeling disappointed, because throughout the game I started to realize it added basically nothing. No new post-game quest, no new mechanics, not even Dynamax/Gigantamax, to my surprise. We had better hope this isn’t a new theme with GameFreak

I still have heartgold but I haven’t played it in years cause it’s such a task to level your Pokémon up.😅

As a fan of Platinum, the Gen 4 remakes really disappointed me. Unlike HGSS and ORAS but it is what it is, still at least there are rom hacks that make it possible as to what fans really want and I'm thankful for those people for putting in the effort of remaking it

The top down was great i.m.o. but removing certain parts and not really adding new things was a missed opportunity. But I still really liked it

I mean. Terastalization and gems seem like perfect compliments. Maybe you can have someone in Clay's town be from Paldea and trade you Tera shards for gems. Or maybe gems can be retconned to be smashed directly into Tera shards.

Its just scary because GameFreak got away with such terrible remakes. These remakes broke my childhood dream. I was 12 (at the time of HGSS) when I wanted the remakes for DPPt and I got these as a 24 year old. 12 year old dreams crushed completely. It took me almost 6-7 years to appreciate BW & B2W2. They were brilliant. If they give the remakes for those games the same treatment as BDSP, it’ll really be the salt on the wound. That especially because I know by the time BW and B2W2 remakes come out, we will still suffer from unfinished 2fps, game crashing main titles. Isnt it sad to receive so many comments like this? I feel like no one, including me have any hopes left for GameFreak games.

I agree, they really did miss the mark. Omitting moves made in these games originally also screws over the integrity of BDSP. Also, why not include new alternate forms like past remakes did? Let's Go had the Alolans, FRLG had the new Unowns, and ORAS has new megas and forms. There's really no excuse.

Fire red and heartgold are my favourite games and clearly there both remakes. They improved so much on the originals

Great video, my only gripe is that sometimes the transitions are soooo loud. It may just be me, but it literally blasts my ears and then everything else is fine. For an example the transition at 4:18 is so loud, but other than that this video was great.

Gen 5 is also my favorite and with how scarlet has been so far and how these games looks I am very nervous that they will able to do those games justice

You made a lot of good points. I will say that Ramanas Park isn’t as great as it was, since catching old legendaries had been a thing since ORAS, and the simpler methods originated in USUM, which imo (and bias since gen 7 was my first) are kind of underrated. I have to say, gen 8 took a lot of what made gen 7 memorable for me, and copy-pasted it into SwSh. And I have one more thing: a second set of gen 2 remakes is probably on the way seeing as how LG released before BDSP (not saying gen 2 re-remakes should go first) and if the Pokémon company doesn’t include at least up to gen 4’s dex, I will have lost hope since gen 2’s dex is so trash on its own! (I still love my boys in Johto tho: Dunsparce, Yanma. Scizor, Kingdra, Donphan, etc.)

I even prefer playing Firered and Leafgreen than this shit. The 3rd gen remake were the best possible for the gameboy. HGSS and ORAS are until today my favorite Pokemon games of all time surpassing anything after ORAS. I felt Sinnoh so much and waited years to get disappointed. It hurts 😭

ORAS were fun but there were some missing features that really should have been there like the mirage tower in the desert, the team magma hideout in the volcano and obviously the battle frontier. I think FRLG and HGSS are much better remakes than what we’ve been getting recently and that makes me worried about black and white whenever they release them

While I agree with the criticism you gave BDSP, I think you may have forgotten to mention the rematch with the Elite 4 and Cynthia, where their teams are both EV trained and holding items to resemble a stronger, almost competitively viable team. Definitely reminded me of why people fear this elite four, and especially the champion, from the original games.

I know I'm not doing pre orders anymore, they simply aren't worth it when I can buy the games later for cheaper and not miss anything.

I’d love to see black and white done in an engine similar to SV. I’d love to see a fleshed out castelia city and Pokémon League explore-able in 3D instead lf 2D again
