I admit I was a bit disappointed the big hills were all flattened out. It would've been cool to have all those rowhouses looking down on the rest of the Kettling area.

The industrial zone that is ruining the traffic is close to the highway. You could make a highway connection there and only let industry trucks drive there. It will relieve traffic i think

Yes I thought the same. A simple underpass with on and off ramps would be perfect! Would also make for a good inbetween-connection for the two residential blocks seperated by the highway.

15:04 I don’t under why you have the row houses like this, it would look so much better if you didn’t have a road between them and the gardens were back to back like normal. 👍 and they would all have road access still

Adding to this, I think building backyards facing each other would make the corner houses by the main road match up, making the sections form interior courtyards.

I agree that the houses should have their back gardens facing each other. Without a road between them. Paths as alleyways is a better option

Where you've got the 2 roundabouts, since they're so close to each other you could turn it into an oval shaped roundabout that services the four roads coming in on either side, mostly found on the M roads like at Stanstead, but a few cities have them too to service ring roads or just where many roads meet at once.

i know what kind of roundabout style you're talking about. but it made me think of this weird one i drive around on the way to Leicester. its on the A5 road in Caldecote by The Royal Redgate. its a very odd one

one thing that i think could be really nice is a cinema! i haven't seen you put any, and around a more commercial area it could be nice - there isn't very much for teens/young adults to do in this new area, and especially if you're wanting to add a university, it would satisfy that demand! be another idea to fill up that commercial need is a big shopping centre that's a little bit far out of the city - there's one i'm thinking of in york called the york outlet, which also has a dedicated bus route going straight from the city centre. maybe called the teaford centre (like the trafford centre in manchester). or even just "designer outlet kettling" because there's heaps of those around the uk!

I lived in Edinburgh and it is quite common to have square blocks of those buildings with a patio or garden in the middle of them. Checkout the Viewforth Gardens street in Edinburgh on satellite images

Oh and I had an idea for the upcoming university: What about a narrow street just next to the main university area, where you just throw in all the pubs, chip shops, curry houses and falafal-business you can find. The students and professors need some places to go after hard days of studying and teaching.

For other Scottish style buildings for future estates, there's the Scottish Tenement buildings by CalumC_91, red and blonde sandstone versions, they're very Glaswegian and fantastic. Outside of that, if you want more London style, there's the Belgravia Townhouse pack by Macwelshman, looks great too.

I love the new areas! Especially the one backed up against the railway. There's something kind of fun about having houses right up against a cliff, and it makes it look more interesting too, I think. I get so excited every time there's a new Blightea video. I really like this city (or sprawling county, more like) and I hope you're having as much fun making it as I am watching it!

The park next to the train station in West Kettling is still called “East Kettling Park” it should be west. Also, there should be a road bridge (directly next to the station) connecting West Kettling with the southern highway connection, so less traffic has to go through the roundabouts.

Oh that's not just a UK thing! We have a bar(or pub) for about every 500 people, and then about as many churches so all the alcoholics can go and ask for forgiveness and then just repeat the same old stuff week after week!

re: water on road... im guessing that the terrain altering/quay building/path placement combo has hidden some tearing or a point where underlying terrain is low. maybe go along the path with a level terrain tool?

I was literally screaming at the screen you didn’t build with the terrain!! Just kidding- it all looks amazing! Also there’s fake water networks on the workshop which should help your frustration with the flooding

You could add an entrance and exit direct from the highway (on the hill by the houses) that leads directly in to the industrial unit. Also another traffic bridge over the river at the bottom by the train station and one at the top end to allow traffic to cross the river easier

I was about to suggest that. There's room for a stadium in each of the communities in that build but this town will probably surpass the first one in size, population and importance soon, so it deserves an even bigger football stadium.

Hi Biffa, those buildings are a perfect fit for your theme. I really like those. What if you ban lorries on that connection to the industrial area, you made early in this video. That way everybody can go to work but heavy transportation isn't bothering the people living there.

I've noticed two things, Biffa: 1. The bridge with the bus-lanes at the mill area has an issue. On one side cars neatly go underneath the road; but under the bridge the terrain goes up sharply and on the side of the bus station the cars go through the bridge. The bridge needs to be raised, the terrain lowered, or some combination of both to fix this. 2. You put a few bridges over the river, it removed a section of path, and then you added the path back toward the road. However, I don't think pedestrians are allowed to cross the roads there, unless these UK roads create invisible crossings. Certain path sections pedestrians can't get to all, which is why they some so little if at all, used.

Ahh, finally he added that obvious path from the bus station to the riverside road. I would have like 3 paths connecting those roads. I like to think where I would cut across grass if there isn't a path.

It's kind of odd that Biffa creates estates that have such limited access to get in and out of, and then gets puzzled that traffic gets so bad when people move in. Biffa needs to step back and treat the city like another one of the old "Biffa Fixes Your Cities" series.

Traffic isn't in the estates with limited access (which is actually how a lot of UK estates are), the traffic is usually on other areas 😉

In terms of Bridges on the Workshop the ones I'm using for the old section of my UK build (yes you inspired me) are the Paris bridge by Psychocinesis and ponte suebia road bridge by Armesto and REV0. The Paris bridge is a 4 lane which reminded me of the high street bridge where I grew up in Bedford. The ponte suebia is a 2 lane bridge with a similar design. Also Just one thing I know If I lived kettling I'd be constantly cutting through the trees to get the bus station maybe you could link up the bus station road to the waterfront road with a crossing so people don't have to walk all the way around?

A riverside tram service would work really well! It can only be on one side of the river, and the other side for cars, a lot more realistic, and it would get more people using public transport over cars! People can also walk along the tram paths, so you can swap out the paths you already have.

you have so much lovely riverside realestate, you need more shops and stuff along the water, like realistically developers would be all over that bringing some small shops and such for the all the people living there.

Hey Biffa! I have some suggestions for you. First of all, since it is a British city... There is a massive lack of Pubs there. Second of all, I would love to see more decals around the town. It's so clean. Wouldn't it be better if it is more dirty? Where are all the bins, the graffiti's and stuff like that? And last but not least, you build this massive floating roundabout above the high way. Wouldn't it be mich more realistic when the highway bridges over the roundabout then the other way around? Would love to see some of those changes! Lots of love!!! Great work dude!

Maybe at some point you could add in a really large shopping centre if there's ever a large demand for commercial - like Gunwharf Quays in Portsmouth. Maybe you could call it Kettling Jett-tea or whatever other people come up with. (As in a sea/lakeside area).

I think your walkways along the river is attached to the canal somehow. So when you raise the walkways you also raise the canal, and thus cause flooding.

You really should ditch those roads with bus lanes. They're great in theory, but you actually have very few buses coming through, and you'd be benefited more by having an extra lane for traffic coming through, particularly at all of your intersections. Even if you left the bus lanes on the highway (if you insist) but then change to a normal 6-lane elsewhere, your traffic would thank you.

I think for your new Scottish-themed rowhouse districts that you might want to have a narrow two lane road between the back gardens of the rowhouses, or just walking paths. It saves the unnecessary upkeep expense of a standard-width two-lane road.

I really liked the more steep terrain edge near the school and library. As you had used Edinburgh style homes it reminded my of Holyrood park. You could make the park area into a mini Holyrood style park :)

Could call the new areas "Kettling-Under-Wold" since the housing is all below the river... house insurance would be interesting there. Regarding the Edinburgh housing, your first thought about running them back-to-back is exactly how parts of the city are, including just along the road from me. For the last area you could add a bypass station to the main line of the railway: that would add a LOT of service benefit I think.

This is my favourite build series ❤️ I love those houses too, but there's no parking anywhere in those little blocks, it would be an absolute nightmare haha! And some shops down the waterfront would have been nice. Can't wait till the next one Biffa!! 🥳😃

I like that you've placed the houses in a single row instead of double like usual. I guess it isn't as efficient and I like the idea of the enclosed gardens in the middle but it makes for an interesting change.

Hi Biffa, Reference the Suckie Trucks coming out and blocking the road.... I recon it's because there's water under the road in the void where the quays have placed a thin veneer of porous terrain, but no real terrain. Elevating the road may work but spoils the look, otherwise it's demolish, terraform and rebuild (or maybe moveit, terraform and ctrl Z if y're careful)

"The Dangling Plums" hahaha, great name! About the double roundabout, could you merge the subsequent right-turn off with the second roundabout, so that the second roundabout has five exits, and that would eliminate the traffic stacking-up at the junction just off there.

@biffa at 28:51 you can see for the terrain lines, that the big road with bus lanes takes a dip right before going into the oval-about / highway intersection. during heavy rain, this could cause a flooding/drainage of said road element and should therefore be adjusted/flattened. you could probably just use network multi tool and select all nodes from the T-intersection all the way to the oval-about

30:54 I think he is having water problems due to the landscaping he did a whiles back when he started that new area. Sometimes when the landscaping is not brought up correctly before building roads and sidewalks, it still acts like the spot is below water level and gets water despite neither looking like it and having structures there. It has happened to me a number of times and I usually end up rebuilding the trouble spots with proper landscaping. I refer to the problem as ghost pits.

As much of a ball ache it will be, I think we need an episode to address the water issue, even if it means ripping it out and re doing it, it’s only going to continue creating issues with traffic. Personally I think it’s to do with the water source but not sure

My thought on the new area (23:40) was that instead of the public library you could do a high school just to give people options, because there is one on the end of your square and then maybe another on the other side

Would love to see some royal crescents and circles in this build (by this I mean like the ones in Bath etc. There are some in Glasgow and Edinburgh too. I don’t know if there is an asset for it though sadly) it would make for some interesting shapes. I would also love to see a cathedral in Kettling like make it a cathedral town? Also mosques and synagogues as well, to celebrate multicultural UK? Anyway, love this series, love all of your content. Get well soon lol ✌️

Biffa, I feel like the houses along the canal would have some kind of fenced off communal garden, one that incorporates the railway line pillars as an architectural feature.

Biffa, there's still the issue with the train tracks near the station. You don't need the bits for changing tracks because they come from the same track a little bit further along

You could squeeze an highschool in that area where you put the public library and elementary school (25:45)! It's a shame the land value is so high over there though (25:57), maybe you could fill that area with houses and move the library and school to the other side of the block. The other side has a thinner area and right now it seems like cut/incomplete, having the schools there could serve as a transition to what it comes afterwards up the river; also right now there is already an other public library and elementary school quite close on the opposite side of the river.

At about 28:10.. the pump trucks.. I think that location is near the elevation of the water/river. Which is why there's always flooding!!

I think you should add a nice park arround the two roundabouts. It wont over much space for anything else but having a green area that connects both sides below those roads would be nice i think ^^.

This is the Copy & Pastea City! Not that its a problem, it's a very efficient way to build fast and improve the city! I am missing a bit of the integration between the parts of the city tho, like a park to connect the areas, or a bit British Garden

@32:37 It maybe be worth deleting the road levelling the terrain and the replacing the road. That fixed it last time I had that problem

I was going to say this. I think roads over terrain doesn’t actually raise it up as far as water modeling is concerned, just the visual effect.

I think there should also be a pedestrian bridge at the bus hub, where you added the small pedestrian short cut. For the people on the other side of the river, so they can easily walk to the bus hub.

You should make a connection from the bus station to the river. There is no road and no pedestrian access. There is also a connection to the highway missing...

I generally put offices services or shops on a 4 lanes road not houses for obvious reasons and never put houses near bridges railroads metro stations or industrial zones either.

There's a district policy that will filter industrial pollution. It really works. There's an expense but it will greatly reduce the ground pollution that industry creates.

I had yesterday off. When I woke up, I jumped on my computer for Biffa time. Hours later, after fretting you were not online yet, I realized that it was Friday! I was actually bummed. Now it's Sat and I'm thrilled your online! 😁😁😂😂

Interested in seeing how you deal with the traffic issue. I have a TON of traffic on a road that originally wasn't intended to be that busy. Roundabouts aren't fixing the issue and im about to majorly renovate the area trying to fix it

Haha he's definitely losing some enthusiasm. I actually don't mind it though and these areas turned out great. Real cities have the same style dotted throughout them. If you just have "rooms" of one aesthetic it feels a little bit like a theme park. He should do more areas of Victorian terraces and more clusters of 1960s towers.

Biffa building another temporary connection. Just like the temporary interchange at the Highway a few Episodes ago. In germany we have a saying "Nothing is more durable than a good temporary fix" it fits quite well to this build i think😅

I feel like you should merge the areas together. Right now the city is fragmented... and more intersection markings at junctions (yellow boxes) and double yellow roads

Not sure if it would work in cities skylines but I would think the solution to the flooding would be to dredge the river, make it deeper so it can hold more water. It looks like when you raise the roads, its also raising the river, so the problem keeps happening
