The Absolute Best Songs in Tarantino Movies ►► bit.ly/qt-m
Video Chapters:
0:00 Pop Music in Cinema
1:41 Ultra-Violence....Made Fun
3:45 Tarantino's In-Scene Music
6:47 Tarantino's Underscoring
9:09 Final Takeaways
Quentin Tarantino doesn’t just love movies, he loves music just as much. And he proves this love of music in every one of his movie soundtracks. Think of “Stuck in the Middle With You” from Reservoir Dogs, “Girl, You’ll Be A Woman Soon” from Pulp Fiction, or “Django” from Django Unchained. There are many ways to use movie music - but Quentin Tarantino defies expectations at every turn.
In this video essay, let’s look at Quentin Tarantino takes his movie soundtracks and crafts some of the most memorable scenes in movie history. Kill Bill, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, Inglourious Basterds, The Hateful Eight - each film has a distinct musical identity but you know right away that these are Quentin Tarantino movie soundtracks. He doesn’t just pick pop songs for their own sake, Tarantino finds the rhythm and soul of each track and somehow pairs it with the perfect scene.
In fact, much of Quentin Tarantino’s movie music should not work at all - but it does. Whether it’s torturing a man to an upbeat groove, or splicing a David Bowie track over a WWII movie - Quentin Tarantino challenges his audience with his music and we love him all the more for it.

Mine are "Little green bag" from Reservoir dogs, "Son of a preacher man" Pulp Fiction, graveyard scene from Kill Bill 2, ending from Django, "There won't be many coming home" The hateful eight and both opening and ending from OUATIH. I guess "Treat her right" would be my favorite because I even dislike that song on its own but think it works great for the film.

It was so important to him to have "stuck in the middle with you" playing, he used up the biggest part of his music budget for this song. Thats why the rest of the soundtrack is relatively niche. But it works and its one of the most memorable scenes in his catalogue full of memorable scenes.

I love when Tarantino’s music is anachronistic. But it’s also fantastic when it’s, for lack of a better term, culturally anachronistic, like that fight between The Bride and O-Ren. The last thing you would expect in a katana fight in a Japanese garden is flamenco music, but it works so well.

Extremely well written and illuminating article. Some of this information I had read before or seen in interviews, but THAT Charles Manson song - I DID NOT KNOW! That is spine-chilling use of music and song in a scene. I think it's easy to say Tarantino just picks his favourite music, but there is always a good reason why he does and the music is another reason why his films work so brilliantly as cinema. I'm always very jealous when he writes the music into the script as he is confident he will direct his own script and get the rights to use the music he wants.

Wes Anderson used the music from the film Sacco & Venzetti (without the Joan Baez vocals) right in the middle of a scene in "The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou." I love the song and it didn't work for me because it was so distracting and so irrelevant. But I still respected Anderson for daring such a choice! I'm guessing he knew 99+ % of the audience would not be distracted because they would have no clue what the song was. What do you think?

@KrunoslavStifter
@KrunoslavStifter 4 жыл бұрын
@@StudioBinder While I would agree with the purpose of essay, I would not agree with the purpose of the headline for the video. It sets the rules before it even begins, trying to be provocative rather then honest. And in the world of click baits, you will excuse me if my fuse is a bit short. Here is a suggested title for the video. "Essay on how Quentin Tarantino uses music in his films". If you wrote it like that. I would find nothing really to complain about. But when you write "Why Quentin Tarantino's Music Defies All Expectations?" you are treading in click bait territory. Regardless if that was your intention or not, you must have known the reaction it will provoke or you would not write it like that. And so I agree with your statement on purpose of essay but I do not agree with the purpose of the headline. How about in the world of click baits one actually let the video speak for itself. That would impress me.

When Taylor Swift was 14, her father relocated to Merrill Lynch’s Nashville office as a wealthy investment banker to help Taylor break into country music. As a sophomore in high school, she got a convertible Lexus. Around the same time, her dad bought a piece of Big Machine, the label to which Swift signed. So having a rich dad or famous mom definitely earns you a head start. That's one.
