Honestly bro I play basketball and it’s been my life everyday grinding for the last 5 years and I’m no where near where I envisioned myself being. I’m at a point in my life this month I’ll be 23. Although I have a opportunity to play d2 basketball this year I can’t see myself gaining anything a year from now but wasting more time than I already have. It’s tough cuz I would’ve never thought I seen day I’d lose passion or love for the game, I literally used to be obsessed and was a gym rat and always the hardest worker anywhere I went! But I feel as though God is calling me on different path. Like you phrased it bro “I was putting in all this work and getting nothing out of it”. Thank God he woke me up from that mentality “if you quit your soft mentality”. When in reality if it doesn’t make any sense to stay and your not gaining anything from it then move on with your life.

@@TheWalkOnCoach word appreciate it bro and right now I’m really looking forward to joining the army which is funny because a few years back when folks was trying to tell me to go I was like hell nah never!😂. But I feel as though God is leading me in that direction now. It’s crazy how life works back then you could never get me to even think about pursuing something besides basketball let alone quitting. But what about you bro hows your life transitioned from playing sports?

@@iamzay4938 the Army is definitely a good choice. My dad served. That work ethic I put in football, I now put that same work into my full time job doing construction research for the Army, this business The Walk-On Coach, and another business I’m building. I still lift weights and dabble in football still. That’s why I tell athletes its so much to look forward to beyond sports.

I have played football my entire life and honestly I don’t know what life would be like without it, but I’m at the point now where I just feel zero passion anymore and just dread practice every day. I’ve started lifting a lot and it makes me truly happy but I feel like football is just hindering that happiness. The only thing that is keeping me in is my team cause I love my team but I just don’t think it’s worth it

After years of playing football through pop Warner,middle school,into high school I lost passion and motivation not only was the game physically exhausting but mentally as well. Football was my everting until high school the hits became to much after pulling my hip flexor and almost needing surgery along with taking hard hits my body’s had enough. I feel like a 50 year old in a 16 year old body. After I quit my happiness spiked and I was enjoying life while perusing other passions such as hunting(family tradition). My advice for everyone is to do what makes you happy and not to what others want you to do quitting is not always bad I’ve lost freinds due to quitting but many stayed bc they understood why. Looking at this video just after I had the convo with my coach. It’s time to walk away from playing. I did everything I could but I’ve went through hell with this sport from high school all the way through college. It’s draining and like you said when football is everything to you when something isn’t going right in practice or games it effects your personal life. Everyone has to walk away at some point. I played and did everything I could. But I was tired of being a rotational piece and putting in all this work for nothing. It’s been that way since high school and I haven’t had fun playing this game since sophomore year of high school. I just live for Saturdays. That’s it. It’s a toxic cycle that needs to come to an end so I can better myself. I’m looking into coaching. I love the X & O’s of football. But as far as playing I’m done and I’m glad I went out on my own terms. I played 6 games after transferring from another school that had no faith in me. I did great and it was the perfect way to go out. I needed this video thanks bro 🙏🏾

I used to be obsessed with football like it was my life it was all I thought about. I started in 7th grade so I started a lil late I’m currently a junior going into my senior season but I’ve had two back to back season ending injuries my sophomore and junior year and tbh I just don’t like the game anymore, it’s turned into more of a chore than a sport and I go lot more into lifting lately and lifting always makes me happy and I feel at peace whenever I lift. I also found more of a future in track, I have some of the best times on my high school track team right now and tbh I might just pursue track and lifting instead of football. The only reason I’m doing football for my senior season is because it’s senior year and I really don’t care what are record is.

As a person who grew up enjoying watching football,I thought it would be my dream sport of play. Started in jv, 7th grade- I loved it with all of my heart. 8th grade was where I opened my eyes however. I started to realize how badly I damaged my body and I started becoming anxious going to practice. Now, I worked my way up to varsity. The only real reason I play now is to use as an achievement to use in the offseason or when talking to people. While the sport made me tougher, I feel like if I just trained on my own I would feel way happier.

Im a female track sprinter in high school and I really want to quit my sport, it’s making me depressed and it’s hard to keep up with schoolwork. Track is also very physically demanding and I never have enough energy after practices to do homework or just live life in general. I also dread every single practice. I only started running just to get into SOMETHING for my school and when I realized I was good at it I stuck with it through my sophmore year. I am a junior now and I know for a fact I do not have a passion for this sport I only enjoyed my first year because of the friends I had on the team(they all moved away the same year). I want to quit but I am really scared of the judgement from my current coaches, they will think I am lazy and I would have to walk past them everyday knowing that I quit their team

I have played basketball my whole life, and now have decided to play football going into my Sophomore year. My problem is the passion for both sports. I don’t have a feeling to play anymore for both sports, and have a passion for something else. Although I am a great player for both sports, I just can’t handle the stress and anxiety from waking up to getting out their and doing drills, only to get yelled at if I make a mistake which makes me feel like I am not good enough. I do hope if I continue to play, that there will be better days ahead!
@TheWalkOnCoach
@TheWalkOnCoach 23 күн бұрын
I hear that. What are you stressed and anxious about when it comes to training? Everyone gets yelled at for messing up. You shouldn’t correlate getting yelled at to not being good enough. During that play, yes, you weren’t good enough bc you didn’t do what was designed. But there’s always the next play to get it right. If you think about it that way, there will be better days. Try and find your motivation for playing the sport again. It can be hard but reactivate that motivation.

@@TheWalkOnCoach I should’ve stated this better, but it also came to a point where some things they said got to a personal level. Obviously they’re trying to push me to do better, but I couldn’t handle it. There was one incident where we were in a playoff game (basketball) and the assistant pulled me and told me we just can’t play you, you suck! That really got to me. What that did to me really affected my mental state, so anytime I get yelled at whether it was personal or not, it took a toll on me mentally. I could be overthinking this but again, in my mind it was way overboard. I will try to not think about my mistakes and getting yelled at, but if it gets to a point where they tell me I suck, I’m sorry but it’s hard for me to deal with that negativity.

I have been playing football since 4th grade and I am heading into my senior year. I have always worked extremely hard in football and it is a massive part of my life. I am about 5’6 and 167 pounds of muscle and have always been very fast and quick. My junior season went as terribly as it could have possibly went as I had went from battling for a starting spot at corner on varsity to a scout team wide receiver. My coaches replaced me with two people who had never played football until last season because I never grew like they thought I would. I was always the best db and corner my team relied on in my class. I did not start my junior year and got virtually no varsity playing time besides special teams. I had never felt so low in my entire life and I dreaded every single practice. In that offseason before I was extremely determined and worked harder than I ever had before. But after how last season went, I have no motivation anymore. I stopped going to workouts as soon as the season ended and my head coach called me in to talk to me three different times. He wanted me to switch to rb and be the second string as well as play all of the special teams. I have never played offense before and I would already be at a disadvantage in fighting for a spot behind the other 2 rbs in my class who have been playing offensive their whole life. I do not trust that I will actually get play time my senior year and I have been stressing for 5 months on whether or not I should play next year. The current football workouts have been interfering with my passion for weightlifting which I developed in the previous offseason and has now become a massive part of my life. I don’t know if I am going to regret not playing but I feel like life is too short to do things that don’t make me happy. Any advice on if it would be worth playing next season for me?

By this time the high school football season has already started, matter of fact its week 3 now. I assume you've made your decision already, but here's my experience. I'm a junior in high school and it's my first time ever playing football, I always wanted to play but I grew up in a family that loved baseball. I played baseball in the 5th grade and was very good, but had a bad postseason and quit, worst decision I ever made. Now with the opportunity to play football, I finally made the decision. I knew the odds were against me, but I believed in myself. I went through heavy training 4 months prior to spring ball, and since then football has been a dread. I understand it's my first time playing and I play in the hardest league in the US, but knowing I'm at the bottom of the depth chart and barely getting reps on JV is just super underwhelming and disappointing. Everyday I've wanted to quit, but I feel like everything I fought for would be for nothing. I'm someone who wanted to beat the odds and be the big player on friday nights, and if lucky, get a D1 offer, but that reality seems to unrealistic at this point. I'm not sure if I should play another season or wrap it up after this one. The only thing that's giving me hope is a brutal offseason working 24/7 to somehow make it possible. So I'm stuck in the same spot, I love football, but ever since I've started playing it, I couldn't wait for it to be over. I say because it's your senior year, stick it out and work as hard as you can, because if you didn't reach your goals, at least you know you gave it your all. keep your head up.

I been playin football since 6th grade and going into my sophomore year I’m really unmotivated to play. I’m always late/missing days of practice due to my mom schedule and I don’t blame her since she in nursing school but it sets me far behind and our team is at best first round playoffs. I only “enjoyed” football freshman year bc of the relationships with my teammates and even some coaches and working out. Not bc of the actual sport itself being fun. Now every workout and practice I think I could be doing something better with my time since I don’t need football to make it in life and I’m not a d1 caliber player. So rn I’m just in a slump but I don’t really get any pros for playing football and my homies in football are my dawgs so I not worried about losing them it mostly the relationships with my coaches bc they were very nice to me and have a good program. But I’m giving football a couple days just to see if I’m just in a slump rn

This might not even get looked at but Watchin this and being at a crossroads on if I wanna keep playing basketball just opened my mind. 21 years old finishing my college freshman year(hs class of 2019) I wasn’t even enrolled in a school during covid year and didn’t go to school the year before. I had d1 interest from 1 school but played selfish when they came to the game forced a lot of shots just to get my average the coach told me I played no defense along with other complements with no offer, crushed me really did, everyone told me I’m good just go to juco and work didn’t want to cause I felt like I’m better than some of the dudes getting some of these offers in the same county as me I had the same mentality freshman year that you had your junior year and I don’t know if I want to quit and get a career but my love for the game is really holding me from these decisions this video helped me gotta sub off that alone 💯

I’m currently a junior, I will be a senior next fall, and I played for the first time I played football this year. I did it out of love for the game and I had always wanted to do it. I met a coach you to this day I’m grateful for who trained me and mentored me, and I thought I was prepared, but clearly I wasn’t ready at all. Idk if you know about the trinity league but it’s the hardest division of high school football in the country, so I didn’t really have a choice. Everyone is better than me, bigger, faster, stronger, etc, no matter how hard I tried, it was never good enough. I hated the season, being a 3rd string on jv, although I made some few friends and memories, idk if it’s enough. It gave me depression, which I still have, and I honestly can’t sleep at night trying to make a decision. I promised my personal coach I’d keep going and that I’d give it my all this off-season, but idk if it’s worth the sacrifice. I don’t wanna leave my senior year, my teammates, or my dreams, but idk if I can take it anymore. I quit baseball when I was in the 5th grade and it was my biggest regret, and I feel like it’s keeping me from quitting, same with my parents and all that they’ve done. I want to play football, but idk if I can make it happen, deep down I think I’ll always be a fan of the game, rather than a player, if you see this please give me your input, just stressing over this game.

This is tough situation but to try and make it more simple, think about the answers to these questions: 1) Is there another passion you have that would bring you joy that you want to pursue that football is currently taking time away from? 2) What will you gain if you stay on the team? What will you lose if you leave? And Visa Versa. Write these answers down. Make 2 columns, one for “stay”, one for “move on”. Make two sections under each column, one “gains”, one “loss” OR “pros” and “cons”. Weigh which side has more pros than cons (consider value and quantity). Pray on it real quick, and Choose your route.

I worked really hard and did extra weightlifting on the side. Being at practice tho has gotten so painful and i feel like i have to show up and it’s not enjoyable. we been waking up at 4:30 for 5:30 am practices during the summer. It’s such a big part of my life but i don’t know what to do. i feel like my parents will be upset if i quit.

My anxiety would get so bad before practice in my freshman year. I remember me literally throwing up before practices because of the anxiety, knowing that we aren’t going to run plays, or hit. Instead we were going to condition, like we did every single practice. On top of that the head coach saw me and several others do very good in practice against the starters, however, the coach was, lets just say he didn’t play any white players except the one who’s mom brought in the food. I was sick of the coach, and the sport was ruined for me. I hated it so much after this, and I regret quitting now, but then it seemed so right. I just remember seeing all of the amazing players on the sideline and the trash players in the games. ESPECIALLY the O Line and D line. It hurts so bad every day, but it is what it is. All I can say for those who want to quit because of a certain coach, is if he is staying for a while then quit, if he’s not then stay. That simple, anyways have a blessed day ✝️❤️

Hey man, I wanted to give you a story of mine. My family loves to play soccer, both my older sibilings have played soccer since they were young. I was no different. But I am now 16 yrs old and I start feeling like I genuinely want to quit playing soccer. I have gotten serious depression and anxiety throughout my youth. I remember I tried killing myself twice because I was almost always a scapegoat on my team for mistakes that happen and I felt like I let the team down. Despite me working hard, I kept getting the same mental problems. I tried to push through the problems but once in a while they do come back. It seems as though my enjoyment in soccer has long gone and I am doing soccer only to stay fit. In high school I have gained such a huge disdain for my teammates because a lot of their attitudes hinder our teams performance. I was a junior last year and I was a varsity benchwarmer that would occasionally play the games. Entering senior year I am considering quitting soccer despite my coach wanting to start me but I do not want to waste my year that makes me feel like I am wasting my time and instead actually start trying to find something I can do for the rest of my life because I am still young.

Hey @thewalkoncoach I am 16 6’0 140-145lbs in my junior season i run a 5.0 40 most skill players on my team run around a 4.7-5.2. I feel as if my db coaches overlook me. I honestly feel like I should be starting. Last season I rode the bench and only play special teams now I am a scout team player fighting for a spot. I know for sure I am better then 2 of our starting dbs. I am hurt right now trying to play through hamstring and glute pain wich is affecting my speed even though I am already not that fast. Today i had a scrimmage I had a good amount of playing time on defense and racked up a couple tackles at saftey and olb at the varsity level. I spent this whole past off season in the weight room and running track wich I can say I definitely feel faster and stronger but I am still very undersized being 140lbs. I think it’s a shame that coaches preach about people working hard will get starting spots but they give those same players who never come to work outs starting spots. I feel like I can be doing something else rn like boxing. Boxing was my first sport my big brother is a boxer my dad is a boxing coach my nephews father is a pro boxer. I feel like I want to go back to the sport of boxing we’re I am most talented at. If I mix that with my good work ethic I can become a much better boxer then I will ever be a football player. I don't care about the physical contact or anything like that, all I care about is the emotional stress it puts on me for playing when I don't care about it. I have an opportunity now to go and play on a scholarship at a d1 school and my dad has helped me a lot with getting this opportunity. At first we didn’t know exactly if I was gonna get put on a scholarship and my thing was I’m not going if I’m not gonna be on scholarship. But once they said I was gonna be on scholarship I still don’t really feel excited and passionate about going. I feel like my hearts just not in it and I can’t give it my all. My parents think I should at least go for the season and if I don’t like it be done but honestly like I said I’m just not passionate and feel like I’m burnt out from it. Do you think I would regret not giving my self one last chance to finally be on scholarship?
@TheWalkOnCoach
@TheWalkOnCoach 8 күн бұрын
Congrats on the scholarship. I think there several things to consider: 1)if you are paying for your education at the current school, then going to the school where you have a scholarship would definitely be a beneficial financial move for future you. Not having the burden of paying student loans once you start your career is a big advantage. On that basis alone, giving it a shot is worth it in my opinion. Make sure the education you get is worth it though. Make sure it’s a career path you would actually pursue. 2) Do you think you could find another way to re-motivate yourself that would help you put more effort into football? It may not be fun at the moment , but what is goals do you have that playing football would benefit? For example, I don’t like reading but I do read financial literacy books because I want financial freedom and to retire my mom and help others. So its deeper than reading, if that makes sense. 3) If you can find ways to motivate yourself, give it a shot for sure. If not, then its a more difficult decision. Writing out pros and cons of each choice always helps.

I fear that I could miss out on having a positive influence on my team as a 5th year.. but I could barely hold myself together as a senior, and could not be a leader to any of my teammates.. i’m torn, because my mind and body are screaming at me to let it go and focus on academics and a career but I fear that I am stepping away from God’s plan for me. if I can’t pull myself together, then it would be best for me if I left.. still so torn but I might just be going crazy. been trying to make this decision for a year.

This is hard decision to make. Sounds like you might be doing some praying about this decision. One thing you can ask God is to be with you as you make this decision on whether or not to move on. That’s just what I do. Then figure out how to make your decision easier. If you write out the pros and cons of moving on from basketball and the pros and cons of staying, then weigh your options. Do you feel that future you would benefit more from playing basketball another year and managing academics or managing academics while also having more time to network to prep for your career?

@@TheWalkOnCoach hi thank you for responding! Ultimately, I did make the decision to walk away from basketball a few days ago. I did write out the pros and cons and it made more sense for me to focus on my future, even though it was really difficult. Videos liked yours, helped me in making the decision for sure! I reached out to my mentors and people that have been with me through my career. Now being on the other side of making that decision final, I just realized that it was mainly me being afraid of stepping into that next stage of life. Now that I’ve done it, I’m not looking back and I’m very thankful for the experience.

Great advice. I'm in a predicament. I'm on 2nd string and I never get in, right? I want to work to be a starter so that I can play. The thing is, I don't even get practice time. I go to every single practice and all they do is put me on the side while they keep 1st string players on the entire time. I'm brand new, and I barely know how to do anything. I need the practice, but can never get it. I know that I am determined enough to be a starter, but I don't have the skills. I want it bad, but I doubt the coaches will ever change. Hey man, I am a Freshman in high school and I will be a sophomore next year. I am 6'0 over 200 pounds and I wasn't utilized at all last year. I have lost the passion for football and it has come to the point where I don't even want to attend the meetings, the banquets, and even the damn strength & conditioning workouts before the season next year. I went to all of the workouts during the summer and I got no vacation. I worked really hard just to get on the team and instead I sat on the bench the whole year and never got playing time, this affected my concentration on school. I went to all of the practices while some starters didn't. Most of the games we lost were blowout losses, we barely won some of our games and our only dominant win was the last game. I have lost the motivation to play football and I have developed a passion for persuing boxing. Should I quit or should I keep going?

Whats going on, this is tough situation. The first question is why did you lose the passion. Is it because you didn’t get to play? @@TheWalkOnCoach Hey man, I made my decision to quit 3 months ago and this video was fresh in my mind. The only thing I didn't tell in my comment is that I did get on the field a couple times. During the 3rd game of the season, we were down by 12 in the 4th, my coach put me in and I got a fumble recovery. Although we lost, I gave our offense a chance to try to come back and we scored a touchdown. The only other times they put me on the field were during the 7th game of the season when we goy blown out 49-0. The questions I asked myself when making my decision to move on were the same things you were saying in this video, am I getting nothing out of it? is it affecting my schoolwork? is it affecting my attitude off the field? All of those answers were yes. I was putting in all of the hard work and showing up to every practice and getting nothing out of it, I was frustrated and depressed, and my grades were down. So after thinking about that for months after the season ended, I decided to quit. The only thing that I regret is that I won't be there with my teammates and knowing what I could've done if I was utilized more, but I had to move on since the cons outweighed the pros. As a whole I have no regrets and I'm getting bigger and stronger off the field. I am way better than what I was emotionally, mentally, physically. I thank you for helping me make my decision.

Hello. I am trying to stick with the theme, but add my son's own story, and hopefully I can get a few comments from others. My son is in the 11th grade. He's been a dedicated but average hockey player since he was 4 years old. He is now 16 and can play organized hockey for just a few more years. He enjoys going to pro baseball, hockey and football games and we've been to quite a few from Atlanta to Montreal. For the last three years he has been playing catholic high school football. He has purposely not tried to find an after school job because of this. In the first year of football he played cornerback every game. In the second year he played every game except the last two, which were the most important ones of the season. This year he has played a few minutes out of three games. He goes to every practice, paid his hundreds of dollars, and the coaches run their business. They tell the kids no one will be cut as long as you go to practice. What that really means is that they want as many kids as possible to pay up but they will still only play their 15-20 favourites. I've been going to the games and there are plenty of kids who play the entire game. They have a position on offence and defence. And, there are many who don't get to play at all. They can tell everyone they are on the team, but may not be in a single play. Now, some say if you quit you are letting your team down. The big shots don't even know who the bench warmers are, so I don't believe in that. He wants to play but the coaches have complete control. With his hockey, he plays at least 21 games and his coach values him. He's always there 40 minutes before game time and they often play during the week, when he also has football practice. I support him leaving the football scam to focus on hockey only. What if he gets hurt in football practice and misses most of the hockey season? I don't have respect for coaches who do this to a player after three years. You can say that maybe he's not good enough, but he has made interceptions and even caught lame punts. He has never screwed up and cost his team points. Thanks for reading.

That situation reminds me of some of the politics that go on in college too. Money seems to always adds another layer of difficulty to sports. I think it comes down to whether your son believes his time is better used just focusing on hockey. If his heart is still in football and he wants to go after it regardless of whats going on with the coaches, I think he should do that. If he truly believes he can change the situation, he should stay. A good question to ask is “if you quit now, will you regret it later in life”. Not always easy to answer but something to think about. I ended up quitting because I no longer had hope that I could change the situation. I tried everything in my power.

I've been boxing for 6 years now, and after losing my first fight, I won my second. But after I won my second, I didn't react the way I thought i would react. After winning, I felt no emotional what so ever. It didn't feel as if I had achieved something. It was like I was fighting to not lose rather than win.

Boxing is also a huge burden on my mental health. I dont like how it's run, how you have to train without getting paid in hopes you get noticed by the real pimp, how the external pressures make you feel as if you're trapped and dont have a choice in what you initially wanted.

@@richdyer6023 lol I understand. One thing Ive done before is set a date for review. Set a timeframe for yourself, a couple months, a year, whatever you think is best. Go hard at the sport, take notes on what’s happening. Then at the date you set, do a review of everything that happened, how you felt, etc. and then make a decision between quitting or sticking with it for another certain timeframe. Making a pros and cons list will also help.

If there’s something you want to do, I recommend going after it now. Its okay to take a break from soccer and come back later if you want. At the same time, whats the deeper reason you are hating soccer and is it worth moving on bc of that. Just something to think about before you make your decision to stop playing.

I’m a senior this year and was barley getting any reps because I’m small. I also just didn’t have a good time at practices, everyday I didn’t wanna go and would just be waiting for practice to end. I just quit about a month ago. It was a really though decision, but it was best for me. I still keep contemplating whether I made the right choice or not.

I have been playing soccer at a club with breaks for 9 years. I'm almost 16 years old and a year ago I suddenly became obsessed with becoming a professional soccer player. I watched a lot of motivational videos on tiktok and youtube. I have practiced a lot. But now it has occurred to me that I will not become a professional soccer player. Also at the start of the new season a week ago it turned out that most of my teammates changed clubs and we will not be registered to play and I will have to play with adults. I am now at a point where I can change club, play with adults or quit the club. I ruled out a club change. And now I don't quite know what to do. I enjoy watching football on TV and cheering for teams, but I'm afraid that by failing to become a professional footballer, I will not enjoy watching the sport and cheering for the teams. Probably, I will quit playing for the club and accept the fact that I will not become a professional footballer. I will start going to the pool, school volleyball or start a school soccer team because I like playing with my friends. You think I'm making the right decision? and do you think I will not lose the pleasure of playing with my friends and watching this sport on TV?

When I quit football, it was hard for me to watch because it makes me think about how I wish my career would have went. So yes, you might not want to watch for a while. Why do you think you wont become a professional soccer player? And if you love the game, how can you give it up so easily?

@@TheWalkOnCoach I am just too bad. I trained a lot but there were still better people in my team then me. And it was also a pressure to become a profesional soccer player which I put on myself because of these motivational videos from the internet on youtube and tiktok, it was pretty tiring. I am in a school where there is a lot of studying and i want to focus on studying. I think i love this game but I have the feeling that I love it when I am not trying to become a professional soccer player because the pressure I put on myself takes away the joy of the game I think I will be happy if I stop trying to become a professional soccer playter and play for fun with friends and family. Do you watch football matches? Do you enjoy it? So I just have to accept that I won't become a professional soccer player and then I can enjoy the game? What do you think?

@@bartrex6866 Wow, That’s a good message. Focusing on going pro is a reason I didn’t fully enjoy college football too. Thats some good insight. If you found what you want to focus on and what makes you happy, that’s awesome. Do that. I do watch football, Im going to a college football game today. Im still passionate about it. It sounds like you have clarity on the mindset you need to have. So now you just to choose, to keep playing and enjoying the game without the presssure of going pro, or just focus on school. Which decision will benefit you and your life the most? That’s the question you have to answer.
