Arsenal are reportedly close to completing the signing of Italian defender Riccardo Calafiori, and we’re sure that there are some of you who are saying this is a waste of money. Arsenal already have the best center-back pairing in Europe in Gabriel and Saliba, why are they still wasting resources to sign another center-back?
Well, this is certainly not a waste of resources. Calafiori could be an important - if not necessary - signing for Arsenal. This signing has the potential to take Arsenal from title contenders to title winners in just one season. That Kiwior vs Sane was the trigger point for Calafiori. Arteta is ruthless as what he's done to Ramsdale, Zinchenko and Eddie. No more messing around.

Ricardo Calafiori is a really brilliant defender he can create defend and score Arteta's kind of defenders so I know that he would fit in and his age is an advantage so he would be great for Arsenal

I would like us to keep Kiwior though. Calafiori, Gabriel ,Saliba ,Ben White , Tomiyasu , Timber and Kiwior is solid depth. Selling Kiwior makes zero sense as we don't know how fit Timber will be and Tomiyasu is always injured.

Kiwior not suited in our LB role, and ain't no way Kiwior to broke our LCB spot. Arteta should move him to CDM, he had that quality like he play for Spezia.

People are forgetting that Timber is coming back from an ACL which means he will have injuries this season. Add Tomiyasu and Zinchenko to the mostly injured list means we need another defender.

We should go Leverkusen style and change to a 3-4-2-1 with: GK: Raya/Ramsdale LCB: Calafiori/Timber CB: Gabriel/Tomiyasu RCB: Saliba/White LM/LWB: Zinchenko/Saka or Trossard RM/RWB: Saka/Trossard LCM: Rice/Zinchenko RCM: Partey/New CM signing or Smith Rowe CAM: Martinelli/Trossard CAM: Ødegaard/Jesus ST: Havertz/New ST signing or Jesus 2nd names are the backups for those positions... and CM is where I dont know where much depth is.

You must put it in context! Paolo Maldini made his senior debut for Italy at the age of 19 and two years later at the age of 21 he played against England for the 3rd place at the World Cup. Meanwhile Calafiori only got the call-up at 22 this year and the team lost to Switzerland in the last 16. Don't even!

Yes, caliofori would fit, but a cb who goes upfront to make good passes, could leave his defence open if he makes a mistake, and this will be bad for arsenal if they face a team who counter attack with speed and in numbers
