El Superclásico is one of - if the THE biggest football rivalries, if not THE biggest rivalry in world football, pitting up Argentina’s two greatest teams in a classic football derby: River Plate vs Boca Juniors. In this Roots of the Rivalry video, we’ll look at the history of El Superclasico, as well as the foundational history of River Plate and the foundational history of Boca Juniors. Another interesting fact why this Super-Clasico is so historic is the fact that this is the last time that the Libertadores final will be determined by playing two games, one "home" and one "away" game. The format will change next year to be like the Champions League final with one game played at a predetermined stadium. It just makes this Super-Clasico even more important for these clubs. I heard when i was a kid that River and Boca kinda had the same color outfit/ kit. They had a match for it, loser has to pick a new outfit/ kit. Boca lost and said that the next ship, arriving at the harbor, they would adopt their flag in to the new kit. It was a Swedish ship.

Good work man. Love your Roots of the Rivalry videos. Just an FYI. The Croatian team you refer to around the 9:50 mark (Hajduk) is pronounced (Haaydook). The J in Croatian, Serbian, Bosnian, etc. is always pronounced as a Y. Not trying to be rude or anything, just pointing it out for future reference.

U.S - no football culture- This why the have the blue&yellow colors-!As Boca Juniors lost the match, the club had to choose other colors for its uniform. As a port worker himself, former club's president Juan Brichetto suggested to adopt the colors of the flag of the first ship he allowed to cross on the following morning. As the first ship that crossed the bridge was Swedish, Boca Juniors adopted the blue and yellow (gold) as institutional colors.[30] It is believed that it was the 4146-ton freighter "Drottning Sophia", a Swedish vessel sailing from Copenhagen, although other historians say that the Drottning Sophia did not arrived to Buenos Aires in 1907 but in 1905. The ship that gave it colors to Boca Juniors would have probably been the Oskar II of Nordstjernan/Johnson Line, arriving to the port on February 5, 1907.[31]

Great video but it was Scottish (not English) railroad workers that first introduced football to Argentina. Hence the earliest league titles being contested by teams like St Andrews and Old Caledonians. Gradually other British nations began to influence the sport but Alec Lamont and Alexander Watson Hutton are largely recognised as the grandfathers of football in Buenos Aires/Argentina.

Awesome. Try n make a video on East Bengal vs Mohun bagan, the Kolkata derby, the fiercest rivalry in Asia. It's the nativists vs the immigrants. Though India is not much known for football, this rivalry is something else. Try to make videos on lesser known rivalries as well apart from the famous ones.

Hudson Derby is pretty young and other than arguement of geography, we're all mostly New Yorkers. Born, and bred in the city, we're gonna take issues on stands. Same way Yankees vs. Mets, Knicks now with the Nets being in our city. Rangers and Islanders, I would include Jets and Giants but they don't even play in the state, though they do represent the greater New York Metropolitan area (same way the NYRB do).

from a boca fan, this video is pretty accurate. but the problem is that you didnt mention the tie in libertadores encounters since 1960 (creation of Copa Libertadores). Saturday it's a really important date for the whole country. 2004 - Boca passed 2015 - Conmebol decided to give River the game because of an incident with pepper spray.

Actually, the first "hincha" was from Uruguay, and he supported Nacional. At the very beginning of the 20th century (in the very 1900 if I'm not mistaken) he was the only spectator on the stands to shout and sing during the matches, encouraging the team to go forward. His actual job was to inflate the balls before the matches, and in Spanish "to inflate" translates into "hinchar", hence the names "hincha" and "hinchada". By the way, Nacional-Peñarol is a fantastic rivalry to investigate

River plate isn’t the translation for rio de la plata, although the English did think it was. But rio de la plata actually translates to the river of silver. The Spanish named it rio de la plata because they would ship the silver collected from the Spanish colonies through the rio de la plata to reach the Atlantic Ocean then the south coast of Spain

Con relación a las Copas de Boca: Hay que aclarar que hablamos de 6 Copas Libertadores (una menos que Independiente) y 3 Copas del Mundo o Intercontinentales (una mas que Independiente): Boca es el segundo Mejor equipo del Continente (después de Independiente que tiene 7 Libertadores) y entre los 5 mejores del mundo con el Real, el Milan, Penarol y Nacional.

8:01 "This chicken run is closed for lack of eggs" is a double entendre very common in Argentine Spanish... it doesn't mean "eggs" but "balls"....lack of balls and not the football kind :D Overall good video, thanks for sharing!
