Honestly I prefer the normal rocket, well at least the normal rocket trail; eragon probably prefers the default, since I think he doesn't use star levels on anything

A good way to practice is during a game try to think about how much elixir you think they have after a certain play, then after the match go back to that moment and actually see how much they had, helps alot
