The ableism in this comment section is scary... Some of y'all really need to touch some grass and maybe read about autism and all the struggles we have to face because of society's unwillingness to acknowledge us, as well as all the stigmas we face because of stupid stereotypes. Sheldon wrote a beautiful song I think a lot of us autistics can relate to, he not only shared his experience but also gave visibility to people who are too often forgotten, shamed, mocked and misrepresented in medias. Also wearing a mask for people who have stage fright is not uncommon, so why does it suddenly become a problem? Especially when that mask is a representation of autism masking which is a widely unknown thing autistic people have to deal with. Again: educate yourself, and respect people instead of acting like peaces of shit.

I love this. As a fellow Aspie with 2 sons who are also autistic we can relate. The depression that most autistic people experience is from the pressure of needing to be “normal” from society. So instead we chose to hide. The masking is exhausting and causes sometimes unbearable mental health issues.

@@diogeneslantern18 oh because being autistic is attention seeking. Oh I know because you are a internet troll and don’t understand how it is very hard for autistic people that struggle outside and judge harshly for not able to be verbal with their feelings. Some can’t handle loud noises and can’t express emotions and some can’t go on to stage. His hands were shaking when took that mask off which means it was hard for him to take the mask off and that is truly him stepping up to the challenge which is brave of him. I wanted to congratulate him for being brave and you think that’s attention seeking. Piss off troll. End of the day we are all wearing a mask. While being bullied I hid things from others behind a mask and never show my true self. I hid the fact I liked anime while attending college and I am a tomboy and it wasn’t until I was in a domestic violence relationship I realised being yourself and being brave is the challenge we all have to face and overcome like me pushing pass my learning difficulties and dyslexia. More important, why is Israel?
@klaudijabogdanovski
@klaudijabogdanovski 2 жыл бұрын
The organizing entity of the Eurovision Song Contest is the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) which is an international association of television and radio broadcasters from countries comprised in the European Broadcasting Area. The area is based in the old telegraphy cable connections, and all the countries marked in red are eligible to be full members of the EBU and are thus eligible to take part in the Eurovision Song Contest. This is also the answer as to why Israel is in the contest, as it is within that red area and is a full member of the EBU. However, any broadcaster from any country in the world can be an associated member of the EBU and that's the case of SBS, an Australian broadcaster. They've had the rights and have been airing the Eurovision Song Contest in Australia since the 80's, even despite they had never participated in it and the contest airs at 5 am, due to vastly different time zone. Still, they managed to create a sort of cult following of the show, with very dedicated fans over there. In 2014, the Eurovision show decided to thank that Australian fanbase for their following in the show's interval act and the reaction by the European fans was so positive, the organizers decided to invite Australia to actually take part in the contest in the following year. Again, Australia were so welcomed, that they've been invited to take part ever since and will be in the show until at least 2023. They even almost won the contest in 2016, coming 2nd place.

Well autism can have symptoms from Asperger’s, and kanners. For instance I have a lot of stimming, speech issues, meltdowns, mood swings etc but don’t have that many social issues, or behavior issues and I have high intelligence. what would I be? I could be Asperger’s because of lack of behavior but I could be classic because of meltdowns and speech issues. You see my point? One label could work for some people but others may not fit in a concrete label. That’s why we have the levels of support needs :)

@@brynbreakerofrules8058 I think first of all labels suck. When people hear the label "autism" they get tunnel vision and think can't talk and can't behave and that's not true. If autism is going to be kept as one diagnosis there should be some more definition as it is such a broad category. I find it extremely difficult to find proper treatment for a family member of mine, who has high functioning autism, more commonly referred to Asperger's.

@@afterthestorm221 The problem is every autistic person is different, we can't precisely put a label on everyone on the spectrum. Where did you get that from? Greta could very much speak before she became an activist, if she couldn’t I’m pretty sure she would have gotten a diagnosis much earlier than she did. Who has claimed she never spoke? She may have stopped speaking for a while (I also did it at 14. I’m autistic and have always been able to speak), but that doesen’t mean she didn’t know how to. She probably was too depressed and unmotivated to bother speaking.

‘Why make it about autism?’ Ummm, maybe because he has autism?! Kind of a relevant aspect to the mask and context. People have adorned masks and disguise for centuries, and from then until now, through to Bowie, it has always been asked why they wear them, and the contexts of it. Bowie was in character, Kiss was about refuge and respect. And people still asked them and made a point of it, even today. Maybe you just get triggered by this topic, for whatever reason.

Autism is an integral part of who we are, something that affects autistic people in everything we do, the reason it's so important to "make it about autism" is because people don't care to learn about us, unconsciously contributing to our struggles. I understand that using a "mask" to encapsulate this may seem silly or superficial, but if it weren't for a visual attribute, no one would care, no one would notice the process of "masking" as it is psychological, invisible to the untrained eye.

I also want to write for the autistic people who are not seen by the public, because they don't perform anything.
