00:18 Con #1: Takes up Time!
01:28 Con #2: No Experience!
01:59 Con #3: Costs A lot of $
03:10 Benefits of Delegating Content Tasks
So, I wanted to go ahead and give you some CONS when it comes to shooting video content on your own.
CON #1: Video Content takes up A LOT of Time!
The average content creator spends about 20+ hours a week developing, creating, producing and distributing their content. That’s basically a part-time job! And let’s say you already wear other hats in your business and you a family and other obligations…that’s a lot of time being taken away from those things.
Alex Hormozi who is absolutely on fire on the Social Media scene right now, spends upwards of $75,000 per month paying a multitude of experts to take care of his video content. He basically just shows up, shoots and his teams take care of the rest.
Am I saying you should spend that kind of $$ and totally delegate your entire video content arm of your business to somebody else? Of course not! But what I’ve and other business owners have done are take baby steps towards delegating some of those tasks.
So whether it would be outsourcing a Content Writer to write your scripts or working with an Editor who you can just send your RAW footage to, even delegating just one thing of your video content production to another person or company will help you win your much needed time back to dedicate it to your business, family or life.
Another CON is not having guidance in your content creation. And what I mean by this is that you may have ZERO experience in creating content in general. Being able to formulate a hook, a compelling message as well as a strong closing or Call to Action takes a lot of strategy and creativity.
Let’s say for example you run an Accounting Firm and all you know are numbers and details about your specific product-offerings. Do you really think it’s realistic that you’ll be able to stand in front of a camera - fully confident - yet alone create an attractive message in your video? The odds are very unlikely.
And this goes back to what I was saying in my first CON that it takes a lot of time to create content. This is a skill that companies pay 5-6 figures for every month because they know how important it is for their Marketing Budget to generate business.
Another Con: It can cost A LOT of $$
Renting video equipment can be pretty pricey - just the most basic camera packages like the Sony ZV E10 - including a basic lens and batteries cost upwards of $120 a day. And doesn’t include audio and lighting equipment as well.
I mean, creating video content for your business should really be considered as a daily thing, so shelling out $120+/day can add up pretty fast.
And don’t get me wrong, I know that there are probably cheaper options out there. But again, that’s going to take time and effort to find those deals.
And in addition to the cost, how about the learning curve of using the equipment. I mean, I’ll give a lot of these camera companies a lot of props for creating more easier to use products nowadays where for the most part, the equipment is made for vlogging and content creation and all you have to do is point and shoot.
But there still is a learning curve like figuring out what the best aperture you need to use and also using the best audio levels.
But if you do have the time, the energy, the money and the creativity to go at it on your own - then that’s great! More power to you! I mean, that’s how I started and for the most part, I continue to write, shoot and produce my own content.
Granted, I now have an Editor who puts all of my footage together, which has allowed me to re-channel those hours I would’ve put into editing, into other aspects of my business.
