I'm Israeli, yesterday I went to the supermarket to pick up some things, including sesame oil. There were several of them, one I never saw before, I looked at the label, made in Singapore! Took it immediately, because of our friendship.

One shall not forget those who helped them when in difficult situation. .

It's wonderful that small countries help each other.

As you can tell from what all the Singaporeans here - including myself - are saying, it's very obvious that the writers and producers of the video have no idea the lengths to which we ended up with this diplomatic relationship with Israel. Even the western world - including the UK which left a defence vacuum here - did not bother to build up a national defence strategy before leaving. Guess who stepped up? The only country that did has our gratitude for their assistance at a very crucial stage in our country's development. Perhaps if you other countries stepped up in place, things may be a lot more different. But you didn't, and I'll even bet you could not be bothered to read up on our history.

As a citizen of Singapore, forever more I am grateful to Israel because they came such a time when our country were so vulnerable. Countries not helping, they were eyeing and waiting for Singapore to sink to a stage that they come to take over effortlessly.

Israel not only helped Singapore, they were also honest in their dealings. They did not take advantage of the arrangement by pushing for us to buy their weapons for profit. They were sensitive to our limitations. We will always treasure their friendship because they were there when we were at our lowest. May god bless Israel and best wishes to her people.

Correction - Singapore sought help from many countries to build up its army. It was mainly hopeful of the help from India. But only Isreal responded to Singapore's SOS.

Singapore didn't select Israel to build its Armed Forces, Israel agreed to assist Singapore when the rest of the world refused to help, thinking this little red dot cannot make it.

You missed out an important fact. Singapore actually sought the help of India and Egypt initially, but neither responded, so they turned to Israel, which quickly responded. Israel was not the first country Singapore approached. This is an important fact that should not have been glossed over in your video.

Our ex-Prime Minister LKY had said all these in his books. These are not secrets. Singapore is friendly to all nations and our stand is always to respect race, language and religions. This is very dominant in our society. When Singapore got its independence, Singapore had asked Britain, US, India, Egypt and other non-communist countries to help build up an army but none responded until Israel come into the picture. Yes our initial build-up were Israeli orientated as the army advisors came from there. Then the British stepped in to help train our air force and the US trained our navy. In the modern world today, Singapore will go to any country who offers training to our SAF. There is no peculiar country that Singapore is aligned to. The SAF sent officers world-wide to get the training required to build up the SAF - Sweden, Germany, France, US, Australia, Britain, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Brunei and many more countries. Singapore had many friends and best friends not just one. So now you should understand the Singapore stance. Like our national motto and the significance of our flag, we respect all races, language and religion. We believe in justice, peace and equality.

Israel will always stand for security, health, good values and justice. Singapore is a role model for a country that cares for its citizens and quickly grew an amazing economy despite the lack of resources. Hopefully this friendship and alliance will only grow

1. Israel wasn't the first country Sg turned to for defence training. Egypt and India turned us down. 2. Israel's contribution to the building of our defence was significant and came at a critical time. 3. Sg's defence has since evolved independently of Israeli influence. The geopolitical sensitivity in 1965 is more intense today. Hence caution should be exercised in the evaluation of views on Sg-Israel relations. Singapore does not take sides, even though we remember the debt of gratitude. We support a 2-state resolution to the current conflict in Gaza. Any suggestion that we are wont to take sides is dangerous. We maintain our sovereignty and insistence on compliance with international law, eschew terrorism and support humanitarian efforts. This is our position in the present conflict. As citizens we also respect fellow Singaporeans who have more sympathy for Israelis or Palestinians.

At early nation building stage of an impoverished and a tiny Singapore, no one is interested in lending a helping hand when first PM Mr.LKY requested for assistances except Israel. The willingness of Israel to extend a helping hand in secret had make it possible for Singapore to survive and continue to thrive in mid of a hostile geopolitical environment after British left. Singapore is an independent country who can choose which country to have bilateral relationship with. Hence, do not make propaganda with suspicious when we have bilateral relationship with a particular nation. In fact, Singapore values friendly relationships with any like minded nations so as to establish mutual benefits in term of trade, economy, technology etc to benefit the people of the nation.
