Why were Sith Acolytes of the Sith Empire often stronger than Jedi Masters? The Old Republic training methods of the Sith were vastly different from those of the Jedi. Dark Lords would send acolytes into the universe with only enough training to survive. This method was designed to make them stronger by leading them along, feeding their hunger for more knowledge and power. And it kept the master alive longer. Failure in this training usually resulted in death or torture at the hands of their master.
Jedi Padawans were closely attached to their masters during training and not sent out on their own until they had proven they were ready. Most Jedi Knights were satisfied with that rank and had no desire to become a master. Sith Acolytes, on the other hand, were power-hungry and would do anything to earn the title of Dark Lord of the Sith.

@@troupemastergrimm6861 Hi, local nerd here and to answer you question, neither the Jedi nor the Sith are really "heroes" in any sense of the word. Both sides are basically two opposing extremes. The Jedi think that cutting themselves from emotions that everyone naturally feels like love, hate, greed and the such is the right path because force sensitives are capable of terrible things when they overindulge. Their right, but also wrong because in denying their emotions they deny what makes them people and that usually ends with them living lonely, solitary lives despite wanting otherwise. On the other hand, the Sith think that experiencing everything and indulging in every innate desire is the way to go because the emotions generally empower force users and the Sith seek freedom and control through power. Their right, but also wrong as well they allow themselves to feel too much and usually leads to a lot of needless death and suffering because Sith tend to be selfish and self serving. Hope this answered your question. Local nerd out.

Shows that the Sith could beat the Jedi, if only they could beat their own self-interests & worked together without backstab & betrayal, they could have ruled the galaxy for thousands of years. @n k ... yes. I'm not sure why you're bringing that up, as if I said anything different. Put it this way. Train two people as soldiers, the same combat training, fitness regiments etc. One of them only works out and does combat drills, eats 3 good meals a day, and sleeps in a king bed every night. The other does the same combat training, but also does regular survivorship training, wilderness survival etc. Which is the better warrior? Another example. Take a rich kid, never been in a fight, never skipped a meal, doesn't know what a tent is, and has never even cooked a meal. Then take a kid that's grown up on the streets, fighting for everything he has, and has always had to do everything himself. Which will make the better warrior? The point is filtering out the weak who have no survival skills or any real fight in them, and leaving the ones who already have the mentality to fight and survive. Nobody said they'll fight hungry and untrained, moron.

When it’s a 1v1 Sith are definitely individually stronger, but as a group the Jedi were always superior. Jedi’s tend to have better foresight with force, and had better synergy. Which allowed for better cooperation. Which is tactically superior to treating a battle as an individual effort in most cases. In addition, Jedi’s were more willing to put their lives on the line to accomplish a mission or goal. As opposed to a Sith, if they deem a battle as a lost cause they’ll just ditch their group for survival.

You know, I actually find the Sith one wholesome if it happened right. The Sith ideology is about getting stronger. Deceit isn't that, it's just people being people and wanting to short track things. I imaginr out there in those eras there would be at least a few honest Sith who follow through with the Teachings and declare a formal challenge with their masters. No tricks, nor cheats. A good fashioned test of skill and strength. When the Apprentice succeeds, the Master then congratulates them with their dying breaths with all the pride of a harsh, but fair parent.

That doesnt necessarily explain anything actually. It's a better explaination to say that 1: there were frequently less Sith than jedi because 2: the Sith prioritized the ability to do violence and hold power over others over discipline, knowledge, or wisdom. Sith acolytes who were not innately more talented at violence and survivability were killed. That's it, it's not that they were innately more powerful or that their training was better. Rather the training just killed off the weaker ones. So if you see a Sith they're more likely to be better warriors because being able to kill things is *far* more important to success as a Sith than as a jedi. A jedi can be a mediocre warrior and still be an accomplished diplomat, seer, healer, advisor, scientist etc. Jedi simply have a broader range of responsibilities. In a word survivorship bias. You see the terrifying Sith warrior in front of you cutting down a jedi master and her two padawans, you don't see the hundred dead acolytes who were driven mad or killed by the wild beasts of a thousand other worlds that were the equivalent of those padawans.

True, also they would tend to have more experience as a result of how they were trained which makes a massive difference in a fight. Pretty sure sith are also just stronger simply because there’s only a few of them using the dark side of the force and there’s not thousands of them using the same power source like the jedi…not really sure if that’s true but I read it somewhere as another reason for the rule of 2.

Basically, Sith had Spartan training while Jedi had Athenian training. I do believe Jedi Shadow Sentinels would’ve been able to easily counter most of the Sith back in those days as they were trained field agents specifically trained to hunt down dark side users and apprehend or eliminate them - not to mention they were basically Jedi SpecOps trained in a variety of survival skills, espionage, and sabotage tactics on top of their normal Jedi training and they were generally just better at everything as they understood both the Light and Dark sides of the Force. (I don’t know if they were around then but they were during the clone wars and if they were allowed to do anything the Jedi would’ve easily won - but that was just one of the many tactical blunders of the council during that era).

Firstly that guy in the picture is actually a fairly powerful Sith Lord hose name I have forgotten, but he was a “rival” to malgus, which no matter how dismissive malgus was of him puts him as pretty strong, he was as I understand in joint command of the assualt with him. That puts him more on the level of a council master. But also this wasn’t a random ship full of sith, this was a hand picked elite strike team. Also in this raid on the temple there was only a single jedi master present, Ven zallow, who we see due to Malgus. In the book covering these events it is specifically noted that most upper level knights and almost all masters are not present, with zallow being left in charge. They kinda weren’t tbh, and I’ve never seen anything to suggest it, the average sith acolyte will be better than the average knight yes 100% because of the harsh training and low survival right only the best sith live and so they are on average better. But I think it’s important to note that jedi training is not as soft as many people here seem to think, in order to become a knight you had to pass through multiple levels of psychological torture, or have already experienced significant hardship so as to have the trials waved. Combined with the fact that in order to even become a padawan you had to demonstrate your skills to masters, which while in times like the clone wars doesn’t always mean beating the shit out of other padawan prospects it sure as hell would during war time. History and feats have shown that all the way up, jedi masters are on par with Sith Lords, there may be weak or strong outliers for both but the parity remains. The same goes for knights, and while it may be true that jedi knights are on average slightly weaker, it should be noted most of our info on this comes from peace time after the sith vanished where martial prowess mattered less. The sith could never have won even without their infighting, because they lacked the number, jedi managed to nearly as effectively train their members and weed out the weak while not killing(most of them), and because of a lack of focus on combat they had greater specialization. There was probably 1 knight to every 1 sith because quite simply their training was relatively comparable at the time, but the Jedi also had healers, engineers, highly advanced telepaths, and philosophers. On top of that they had entire corps of people below the knights to support them. A knight may only be .9 of a sith but for every one sith the Jedi have a dozen .1s, .2s and .3a lying around

Doesn't matter however we can agree that on both sides the old republic versions would wipe the floor with what exists in current (considering cannon cause master Luke from legacy and the sith he fought with are a different breed from everything) and then be disappointed in what their decendants are and what they did.

Infighting was actually encouraged by the Sith empire and ultimately the Sith empire saw this as for every master or apprentice who died would be replaced with a stronger Sith who would fulfill the dead masters or apprentice roles better. Add in their training was meant to strengthen their connection to the dark side which was generally combat training that mostly was a case of live or die. Also consider unlike the modern empire the sith actively seeked to expand their ranks and were open to pretty any force sensitive that showed promise this included slaves. Where as the average jedi trained for mastery and strengthening their connection to the force its never for the sake of power ideally and generally most jedi who showed the potential to grow stronger eventually peaked do to limited growth or became outcasts because their power lead them to the dark side which was rather banished outright or executed by jedi sentinels whos goal was to hunt any signs of the dark side. This meant most jedi while very much dangerous to some extent had an upper limit sense the strongest jedi at the time were prodigies which is not normal. Not every jedi could be to the same level as luke revan or palpatine and it was not expected of them where as the sith expected absolute perfection or you would die. So ultimately id say its a combination of enviorment and training as well as a strong encouragement for self improvement via strengthening their connection to the darkside at all costs or playing the corporate ladder climbing via infighting and cunning that makes the sith so strong. I mean the modern sith does not really have this sense most sith acolytes are not actually sith but purely pawns in vader, duku or palpys game and ultimately are at best assassins or a replacement.

In the context of the old-republic universe, their openness towards any potential force-sensitive was, at the start of the game, a rather new development though, with Sith traditionally valueing those with pureblood lineage more than anything else. As a Sith Inquisitor character, you even see, that purebloods will get preferencial treatment.

I forget the exact quote or what game it's from, but it was a sith saying how they are stronger as the requirements for becoming a sith lord are much higher than that other a jedi knight or master. He said something about how many jedi were granted the title of knight over a long stretch of time but at the same time only a handful of sith lords were granted the title in the same time because to be a Sith you must prove your strength.
@lordfury18
@lordfury18 Жыл бұрын
something that always gets me, Revan during his time as a dark lord of the sith attempted to teach that for one to become the new dark lord they must defeat the master in single combat but many sith wanted the position without earning it, Malak was powerful in his own rights but was no where near his master he polluted the pool by shooting revan in the back, this is what keeps happening with the sith, the apprentice does not earn the title of dark lord

There is also the misunderstood premise that Jedi masters are supposed to be strong. But the definition Jedi use for strong can be anything, strong in strategy/understanding/conflict resolution etc. all these are paths to Jedi masters can take, while the sith only provided one path, violence.
@NorseGraphic
@NorseGraphic 22 күн бұрын
Not necessarily. There was a couple of paths for the Sith. There’s the Sith Warrior basing their power on strength and martial arts, and then there’s the Sith Inquisitor basing on use of the Force as a weapon. Basing on what I’ve watched from movies and video games, Vader could be classified as a Sith Warrior. While Palpatine being more of a Force user could be seen as a Force Inquisitor. The converse is true for the Jedi; Melee+Strength = Jedi Guardian (blue lightsaber), Force user = Jedi Consular (Master Yoda with his green lightsaber). There hasn’t been many Jedi Sentinels in movies, but in the Knights of the Old Republic (first game), there was one Jedi Sentinel, can’t her name the playing character could save from isolation due to her anger when lashing out at her master.

The only great weakness of the Sith is their ridiculous infighting. If Marr or Malgus had succeeded and the Sith could have stopped fighting, they would have overwhelmed the Jedi. The easiest way to defeat the Sith is by doing nothing. If you take away their work, they will become extremely quarrelsome.

More than that. As explained by Bane and later Yoda after order 66, Jedi train to face threats they know and have already encountered before. Sith work to BE a threat that no one has seen yet. Jedi are reactive in the quest for more power, Sith are proactive. Therefore, jedi tend to play catch up with the sith. Only by being completely overpowering (Yoda VS Dooku or Ventress) will it not matter. Otherwise, pound for pound, we compare a passive Jedi VS go getter Sith.

In terms of developing one’s technique and discipline, the Sith method actually sounds much worse than the Jedi one. Having a master who trains you directly on a regular basis instead of one who shows you the basics and has you figure out most of the rest yourself would result in very underdeveloped students in real life. Also, for a Jedi, all the rank of Master means is that you’ve successfully trained another Padawan to Knighthood. It’s much more of a formality than the Sith rank and not always the best measuring stick of a Jedi’s power.

this is true to real life as well. people who’s parents guide them and direct them away from hardship, typically end up being satisfied easily, and do not require more money or power to be happy. Some people raise their kids by throwing them to the wolves to make them hungry for more. It creates determined people, but also assholes. The former is more likely to care about others than the latter

I think it's interesting that the standard sith training method is very much like the yellow-bladed jedi's drive to go out and be a part of the larger universe. Interesting also that the jedi phased that subclass out of their own ranks, except for temple guards who were granted those lightsabers honorifically

A prime example of this is during the Fatal Alliance Old Republic Book. Eldo Ax was a fair bit stronger than her Jedi Padawan counter-part, although not vastly superior in skill she was clearly, as a acolyte, as strong if not stronger than the average Jedi Knight. That book also goes to show how strong Satele Shan is as well. Great read honestly.

Or maybe it's because the Sith focused more on pure combat training while the Jedi focused more developing inner peace and harmony with the force. It's like training a rifleman and a swordsman. A man can be trained to shoot a rifle skillfully in a few weeks while it takes years to train a man to skillfully use a sword.
