Fun fact: Your Tibialis Lowkey play a stronger role in sprinting and leaping. I'd argue calves are shock absorbers. They do help but the Tibialis does majority of the work Edit: I only say this because I sprint. There's no calf raise exercise that can be done explosively that aligns with the laws of specificity of track. Aka, I run with kettlebells in my hands back and forth (On my toes ofc, I'm a sprinter) and my calves feel nothing and get 0 work. It's all Tibialis. The same applies for if you were to constantly jump up and down and land on your toes and spring off of them. That "Spring"/"Bounce" is all generated in your tibialis muscle. Calves are just shock absorbers for when they're weakened, perhaps. I haven't felt calf muscle soreness ever since I started sprinting fr and I've only felt tibialis soreness Second Edit: No, explosively doing calf raises will not change anything or help the laws of specificity when it comes to spring bouncing/sprinting (Sprinting is also spring bouncing. You're literally jumping from side to side while pushing forward)

If you want bigger calves austin you gotta put on more muscle on your body plus working out claves also. I had small calves weighed 160 and gained up to 205 from working out and my calves finally grew. When your heavier your calves are constantly supporting all that weight stimulating growth plus with calves workouts in the gym. I thought it was impossible to grow calves until I gained mass and went up on my body weight
@user-bs7et7vf7h5 ай бұрын
I got big calves due to simply genetics, and they look bulky and not athletic even when I'm somewhat lean. I don't know if that's the reason, but im not that fast and explosive naturally(more of an endurance type), and i feel like my weight to strength ratio is really low, even though I train mostly for strength and explosivnes. And even if that's not the reason, I'd still like smaller calves just for how they look. Also mostly big and bulky people have big calves, not athletes.
@Phaminator5255 ай бұрын
I mean the only reason why the best sprinters and runners have tiny calves is because running has a lot to do with height. Your stride is very important in your distanced covered. It has nothing to do with the calf insertion. If you're short with bad insertions you won't be as fast as someone who's taller (given that both of you are on the same level). American football is the peak of explosive power and almost every one of them who are known for explosive power have big calves. Also fighters who punch hard have big calves too. Manny pac, Mike Tyson, Ngannou. The power starts at your feet

He was only white guy in state finals lololol. He ended up playing college ball even after blowing out his knee. Kid was a freak of nature, plus he was repping 315 in hs, over 500 was pr his freshman yr.
@Sanfu695 ай бұрын
It has nothing to do with the calf genetics and everything to do with the insertion being higher means the Achilles tendon is longer and therefore there’s more force return and springiness. On the other hand big thick calves with lower insertions provide way more muscle mass therefore the possibility of more stability and force transfer through the legs which means potentially higher absolute strength if developed.
@gur2624 ай бұрын
😂the insertion being higher is genetics. That said. I didn't realize I was supposed to train calves for years. I bet many are the same but then fell for the temptation of calling calves genetic and leaving it at that. Mine are a bit higher. Probably no chance of being gigantic but they did grow after training for a while.

The muscle fiber statement is completely false. Higher calf insertions have absolutely no correlation with a higher ratio of fast twitch muscle fibers to slow twitch. That misconception comes from the fact that allot of people who have high calf insertions DO have a high fast twitch muscle fiber ratio BUT these are 2 separate qualities, and are not contingent on each other. Plus there are also allot of cases where one quality is present while the other is absent. High calf insertions allow for more springier movement due to the tendon being larger and taking up more space.

Having slow Twitch muscle is not having bad genetics I am a wrestler and I do train mma and I still tap out people who are way more explosive than me just because they gas out way faster and it’s all about technique and mindset so don’t let genetics keep you down they are overrated just because you have for example bad genetics, that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t start exercising or if someone has good genetics that doesn’t mean he is gonna beat you in a fight I mean there are so many example where slow twitch white boys beat the west African fast twitch fighter(Sean vs Izzy, Rob vs Izzy 2 he just got robbed) Jan vs izzy or Paul Graig vs Jammahl Hill etc it’s all about the Person not the race or the genetics(genetics play ofc a part of it but everybody has flaws)

Actually having low insertions gives you more power and explosiveness overall in fighting. I do boxing and all of my power just start at the feet. I'm not jumping in, it's my base. You're always better off having bigger legs in combat sports. But it doesn't mean you need them but it's just another advantage like reach or height. Any UFC fighter that has insane KO power got big calves. And I'm just saying straight power. I know izzy can KO anyone but that has more to do with accuracy and skill than power
