I was in my 30s, sober and suicidal. I had chronic anxiety and my mental health prevented me from reaching my potential. I gave in and tried weed. It’s been 4 years and I feel like I have my life back. I’m more productive, in better shape, and free from anxiety and depression. It works for me better than any pill I was ever prescribed to ease my symptoms.

I started smoking weed in the Navy '70 - '74. As far as lung disease. Most smokers who experience lung disease smoke 1or more packs a day. For a weed smoker that would mean 20+ joints a day. I don't know if that is even doable over an extended period of time.

I have PTSD and weed has helped reduce nightmares. The doctors originally prescribed prazosin, which gave me migraines. For a while there I definitely smoked too much, but have now found a good balance of smoking 3-4 nights a week. Not everyday, but enough to get by.

I also take minipress/prazosin for PTSD. It works for PTSD nightmares specifically (somehow) but not other general nightmares. Just a suggestion but maybe your dose isn't high enough, my doctor had to increase my dose after some time because it stopped working. Cannabis is super helpful with my PTSD, fibro, chronic severe pain, muscle spasms, neuropathy, and so so so much more. Cannabis is a life saver. Wishing you a less painful, nightmare free day ❤

I am totally pro-legalization, but I do think marijuana advocates paint an unrealistically rosy picture of the drug. Yes, it's way safer than most other rec drugs, especially alcohol. But that doesn't mean it can't be a negative force in your life. Having been a heavy user at times, it does cloud your mind to some degree. You can still function, but you're not at your sharpest. I also don't think it's a great idea for adolescents to use it, since your brain is still growing until the mid-20s. And while it's nowhere near as difficult a habit to kick as many drugs, if your tolerance has gotten very high, it's NOT easy to stop. You'll experience sleeplessness, lack of appetite and other unpleasant things for up to 2 weeks. I just think people should approach marijuana in a mindful way, and try to avoid having it every single day for months on end.

Seems like an odd thing to play devil's advocate for. As you mentioned, alcohol is far worse for you and has almost 0 medicinal use - other than maybe being a disinfectant in some concentrations. Of course we need more research, but even now, marijuana has many more medical uses than alcohol ever will. Of course you can get addicted (mentally or otherwise) to most substances, but so far the research shows that it does more good than bad.

@christopherburgess96

@@steverogers7601 See... when a substance user says they're not addicted... they're fully aware that they're affected by chemical compulsion. What they are communicating is that there are tangible reasons they are continuing to use. Some of us live distraught and painful lives full of restless anxiety and it's the only way we know to dull the pain. There is no set of exercises you can do or discipline you can exert that free you from the bonds of trauma or developmental disabilities. It's not an excuse. It's just taken the medical community the better part of a century to understand what we know instinctively through experience: it helps. Most people seem to struggle through life never really accepting that they need help or understanding how to get it. Sometimes dulling the pain is all we can do. And when the pain never stops, it's hard to throw away your crutches with no path to rehabilitation. The next time you think to dismiss something like anxiety as an excuse, picture that friend diving off an overpass for a minute and think about what you'd do in his shoes.

Like the video mentioned smoking weed affects people differently. For me the effects of sleeping are the opposite of what the video stated. I’ve been smoking weed almost every single night for the past 2 years and my REM sleep is great. I have so many vivid dreams but then again I’ve always had crazy/epic dreams. But the most beneficial thing from smoking weed has been the reduction of sleep paralysis. I used to have 2-3 episodes of sleep paralysis every week when I was in high school. Over the years it died down to 1-2 episodes every 2 or 3 months. Sometimes a little more. Sometimes less. And sometimes the interval was longer. But I noticed that every time I smoke before sleep Ive had ZERO sleep paralysis episodes.

A very Christian old fashioned lady that lived next door to us got diagnosed with cancer. She was a nurse and very much had spent her whole life staying away from anything considered drugs. But towards the end of her life the pain got so bad that she was finally willing to try some of the medical majahona that my father is prescribed. She didn’t use it as often as she was offered it, but she did admit that it helped with the pain and calmed some of her nerves when she did use it…She was a very sweet women and she will be missed. She didn’t want to go even though she had led a long fulfilling life. No one thought she was gonna die when she did because she was a picture of health, especially compared to her husband. Everyone including both of them thought that she’d outlive him and neither herself or her husband were mentally prepared for it to go the other way around…I’m just glad that she was willing to allow herself some relief in her last days and that her husband has my family checking in on him weekly. IT IS A BLESSING! I have many chronic painful conditions, Doctors treated me with opioids for 27 years. I've been on EVERYTHING, they pumped me full of so much of Oxy, prescribed me 240mg a day (20 yrs ago) then on to Fentanyl. The Fentanyl was patch form, which is better for addiction problems. At one point the doctors started talking about opioid induced pain, I thought they were F'n crazy. Eventually I couldn't handle the increasing pain, hated the doctors & had to change things. I stopped the opiates cold turkey, NOT FUN but for 1 month I took only otc meds, CBD oil drops & vape & smoked my normal amount of weed. That was over 7 years ago. In those 7 years I found a different pain management regimen with the cannabis, my life has turned around. I have a clear mind, a memory again (yes, really) & my pain level is manageable. I am a new woman & have never been happier. If I continued along the path the medical establishment forced on me I have no doubt in my mind I would not be alive today.

I think it's such a different drug for everyone that you just gotta experiment with different frequencies and amounts and be aware and honest with yourself. I used once a week for 3 years and it was fine, but still started to feel a bit too habitual and counterproductive at the end of it. Last year I tried cutting back to 2 times a month and it was way more appropriate for me. Some people benefit from being high all day every day, but definitely not everyone.

You smoked weed for 6 months and have quit for 12 days? You're really going to pretend after your lengthy use and long rehab that you have any idea what you're talking about or at least are sure that is what is the definitive reason for what you're feeling. How about do it because you want to or don't because do not want to. Quit letting people with an agenda either way male your choices for you.

I am 22 rigt now, and i was introduced to marijuana in my senior year of high school, when i was 17. I was bullied really badly in school because of my mental illnesses, so having something that makes my brain slow down, and be able to process information rationally and calmly, rather than getting worked up over nothing. When you live your life tense because of anxiety, or drained because of depression, having that joint and being able to relax, be calm and not overthink things, even for a few hours makes such a big impact on people who are constantly uncomfortable. I am PRO marijuana, all the way. IF people are able to respect it, and use it wisely.

I smoked and got addicted to weed for the past 2 to 3yrs. I decided to quit smoking last summer because I wanted to focus on my driving lessons and I realized that it wasn’t benefiting my mental health either. I became more reserved, lazy, forgetful and more anxious. When I started to quit I experienced the withdrawals of weed. I was more irritable, depressed, lack of enjoyment in my interests, poor appetite, irregular sleep schedule, became underweight and overthinking a lot. My lung health started to decline this past fall and winter. I had upper respiratory infections, caught the flu, caught Covid twice and caught a little bit of pneumonia. I started to have breathing problems such as my chest tightened, feel a tickle in my lungs & throat, coughing, difficulty breathing, dizziness and lots of mucus. These attacks get triggered when I’m around any kind of smoke (especially cigarette smoke) and when I’m feeling very anxious or stressed out. I went to the doctor to have my lungs checked out. I told her about me smoking weed for the past few yrs and I also told her that I had quit smoking weed. She said that smoking weed can potentially weaken your lungs and make your lungs vulnerable to getting sick by common bacteria and viruses. I told her about my breathing attacks and she said it’s possible that I might either be developing asthma or I developed an allergy and sensitivity towards smoke. She prescribed me a inhaler for my breathing attacks and she said that I can get a refill when needed. So yea I pretty much found out that I had been fed a lie about smoking weed being harmless to your lungs. I also learned that getting addicted to smoking weed and chronic smoking can have some consequences on your lungs. Even in a short time span of 2 to 3 yrs of smoking can cause trouble for your lungs. Your health is more important than the relaxing high you get from smoking weed.

I’ve been a chronic smoker for 4 years, I had tried it once or twice at 18 and it didn’t become a habit till I hit 22 (time of pandemic), up until today I’m 26yo. Weed started off as being my favourite past time at a time where I felt I was pretty lost. It made colours more vivid and made life seem more “pink” in my eyes. Weed started off fairly recreationally up until it wasn’t anymore. I had a psychosis last year when I combined weed with some stronger opioids and it wasn’t a pleasant sight. I couldn’t sleep and was very paranoid for over a week or so. Ever since I’ve tried to quit cold turkey and gradually yet nothing has proved fruitful for me so far. I now am married and my wife supports me going separate ways from the Za. It’s a work in progress but I’m still working on not giving into my cravings. My advice for those who are like me in that phase of just smoking occasionally: if you have an addictive personality, stay away from weed. Weed is the best drug to relax, have fun, get productive even but more so can be very addicting and hard to stop if you have the need to stop one day.

I think like literally everything we encounter in life there's going to be benefits and there's going to be drawbacks. My state I live in just recently legalized weed for recreational use for adults over 21. When it's legal to buy in dispenseries I do plan to partake of the devil's lettuce. I have no experience with anything other than a few times I tried "dirt weed" in highschool days so I have zero tolerance and I know I will need to exercise caution since anything from a dispensery is likely to be considerably stronger than my past experiences.

You left out the effects it has on eating disorders that pertain to under eating. It relives the "eating will make me obese" paranoia. And it suppresses the gag reflex allowing people with texture issues to eat things that normally their brain freaks out about as well as inhibiting bulimia triggers.

Yes yes yes! When I was 16 I was anorexic and didn't eat I was so mentally ill and I thought I needed to be bones to be attractive. Smoking cannabis allowed me to eat without a care in the world and it actually allowed me to enjoy the food I was eating rather than trying to avoid food for as long as possible. I have recovered with the help of therapy and cannabis and still am a medical cannabis user daily. It helps me sleep, eat, relax, destress, and enjoy things more. I am way less anxious and am able to be myself and say the things I think when I smoke vs when I don't I am just a quiet shut in.

I’ve suffered with EDNOS (eating disorders not otherwise specified) for over a decade, since high school.. while it might solve one problem, it can create another. And yes I used to smoke quite a bit off and on for years. Personally, the suppression of the gag reflex is actually one reason why I don’t care for smoking anymore. I already have difficulty swallowing so the feeling of constantly choking if I tried to eat something while high, was beyond terrifying and honestly not worth the mental and physical anguish.

@6:18 incorrect. I often find it easier to drive while high on THC due to being more aware of the road and less distracted. It also makes driving a lot more enjoyable and less irritating. Maybe if someone is brand new to weed it would affect driving as it would be extremely strong and unfamiliar, but after the first few times it really isn't anything. That being said, I wouldn't drive drunk as that DOES affect how you drive, reaction time, etc. in the worst possible way(on top of making everything move and such, feeling slower, etc.) I have Chrons disease and it helps A LOT with the stomach pains, cramps, and regulating bowel movements(it makes the organs relaX SO IT'S EASIER TO GO). I would also like to point out it helps me work out And when I was doing labor jobs it made them easier to do.

I actually suffer from schizophrenia and depression and anxiety disease and weed has indeed helped me more often than prescription psych drugs which did mess my body and mind up significantly. Everything in moderation and smoke is still not good for you but I sometimes have edibles and I function way better. In fact, when I suffer from my schizophrenia, it lets some of my symptoms move freely and I start to feel normalcy and calm. CBD is also a plus as a tincture and I only use a small tiny amount which keeps my nerves in a much better state. I keep myself realistic on certain things but it helped much more than what was suggested. I can stop and not be phased although some moments may vary. Schizophrenia is a permanent problem but I dealt with it for a pretty long time and find that my mind is in a much better state after using it for a long time and I can go a pretty long time without weed and still be functional. Best thing that ever happened to me but I also study some psychology on the side and some side effects can be a bit harmful to some compared to others. Some should not partake in weed especially if their anxiety prone when using it. Again, all depends on the user and whether their body is triggered in a bad or good way

I used to be an avid pothead and high as often as it was offered to me (which was almost daily). I used to adamantly defend the benefits. However, currently I haven’t smoked or used any other form of THC in almost a year. It caused me way too much anxiety and paranoia, affected my already messed up ability to sleep, caused break outs, I absolutely hated how dry my mouth would get. I hate coughing. I think due to multiple pollen allergies, it constantly made me sneeze and make my mouth itchy and honestly I don’t like smelling like I just smoked.. ya I certainly enjoyed it plenty in the past, it just isn’t worth it to me to keep up. Plus, I hardly spent my money on weed because I almost always had it offered to me and I see no reason to spend money on something that will make me intoxicated. Or at least not on a frequent basis. I don’t care if others use it. I don’t even care if people nearby me smoke it, I just no longer care for it personally.

I am a combat veteran, who had trouble sleeping and nightmares when I did. THC drops have helped me get to and stay asleep, as well as took away my nightmares. I realise that is personal, but for me, it has been very helpful. I do not use THC for anything else.

I was a patient testing out epidiolex (or however you spell it) when I was 16-18, I'm 21 now and it helps a lot for my epilepsy

When I used to do that I felt a whole lot better especially when folks make ya mad. I even did that when I went vegetarian and smoked after a workout not the whole blunt but it had my hunger go away and I lost more weight and got stronger. I went from 212 to 188 in a 2 months

Net negative, for me and all my friends. We all quit recently and were all having terrible withdrawls, shakes to the point I spilled water on myself. Just don’t, it doesn’t even feel that good. If you genuinely need it for real medical reasons I get it though 100%.

For some people(self included)weeds great, cuts the amount of insulin I need to use in half(cannabinoids effect on insulin resistance is why the munchies are a side effect) makes the nerve pain from a combination of the diabetes and old injuries much more manageable and save for lemony or pineappley tasting weed helps keeps my anxiety disorder in check.

I’d say it’s an equal of both, I heard a story on how a Soldier in Vietnam fought off an entire Enemy Attack while high on Weed, his name is SGT. Peter Lemon, and he won the Medal of Honor (Look him up)

What throws me in for a loop with the entire, is it good or bad situation is this. Where does one draw the line of it being effects from the cannabinoids or the literal smoke inhalation. Because it was mentioned in the section regarding the effects of pregnant women and how their births had problems that arise which are similar to regular smoking. I can see how the cannabinoids affects mental health and certain factors of daily living like sleep patterns and emotions but I don’t see how the same can be said for cardiovascular & pulmonary issues. Would love to have a discussion about this, I hope I can learn something new or see what I didn’t understand the first time!
