I'm Korean-American and this video is pure propaganda. USA got hit with second wave from Europe in middle of March. As of March 7th, Korea had 7134 cases and USA had 279 cases. Look at the charts for yourself and timeline is very different. You'll see that spike in USA is about 10 days behind Europe's spike. Initial outbreaks in USA from Chinese travelers were contained and isolated in February. Scientists have mapped the virus movement from China to Europe and to USA and rest of the world. Korea did a great job of containment but what really helped them was their quarantine policy for any travelers entering the country. I believe they checked all incoming travelers and implemented mandatory 14 day quarantine. We didn't do that in USA because our laws prohibit our government from quarantining citizens without court order. I see all these remarks about Koreans being smarter and having better leaders. If that's the case, then Taiwan must be much smarter than Koreans because they only had 429 cases.

As a S.Korean, I am flattered indeed. Yet my very conscience urges me to be as open and frank as possible in telling the world things happening as they are: S. Korea is one big pseudo army boot camp as far as the vast majority of its inhabitants are concerned. (Just imagine a multitude of "Jaffa" in SG-1 perhaps) kzfaq.info/get/bejne/rcihp6lqlq-pYZ8.html In most of the time, people here literally obey, never question what the authority demands. Such property can serve as a huge advantage in extreme situations like current outbreak or WW3. Downside is that one's civil rights can easily be compromised to a degree that an ordinary western world folk simply would not bear nor tolerate. Furthermore, S.Korea's current success in current struggle against COVID-19 outbreak has nothing or very little to do with the gov. for sure. The true heroes are medical professionals working murderously long and tiring hours everyday and risking their lives in the front line while bloody President Moon and its leftist officials trying to steal the fame and glory in every imaginable way possible via state of the art propaganda that 21st century has to offer. Sigh

TESTJNG DOESNT DO SHIT. It is NOT PREVENTATIVE. People need to self isolate more than anything. Prevent being a silent carrier and infecting others. Everyone’s perspective of this needs to be changed. Treat yourself as if YOU are already infected by the virus and are not trying to give it to OTHERS.

rate (typo) Also, a 3, that’s crazy! Some Americans are repeating “both sides are the problem”, just like Trump said there are good people on both sides and blame on many sides after the Charlottesville protests. The CARE bill gives 300B to Americans struggling, 500B to Wall Street, and the rest to unemployment and services, but that 500B on paper becomes 10x more through devious machinations and is equivalent to 4T from the government to them. Leaders are working against the people.

@pite9
@pite9 4 жыл бұрын
Idiot! The Western European countries with universal healthcare are the countries with the highest death rates per capita. This is no coincidence. There are three major reasons. 1. Chronic undersupply 2. No plans to deal with crisis's. (In a free market, they prepare for situations like this, and private companies are quick to jump in and provide things like test kits since they can make huge amounts of money). In USA, non-approved test kits were banned initially. But Trump did what he could to reverse it. That's why it took a few weeks for USA's massive testing to start. Because it was delayed, because the government didn't allow the free market to operate, the virus spread too much. 3. Politicians in countries with universal healthcare knows about the limitations. For example they know that they don't have the resources to conduct large scale testing, so they don't make the right decisions. Rather they make the best decision that can be implemented by the healthcare system.

It might have to do with discipline and following orders. Part of that has to do with lack of trust in authorities, which is a result of the authorities not being unified. It caused confusion and people lacked strong leadership. Bipartisan split is partly to blame, with many Americans thinking it was a hoax and not taking it seriously. Americans are too over confident because we think our country is the best and live in this bubble that is frog in a well. Culturally, we Americans love our own faces so we think we look ridiculous with a mask on. It doesn't help that the US Surgeon General told the public to not buy masks and ridiculed those who did. Dear America, it's time for us to be humble in the world's stage.

Here in Korea, the words "we" and "our" take precedence over the word "me"... That's why everyone pulled together. Young, old, rich and poor. Plus, South Korea has a well-educated, well-informed public that holds its public officials accountable. The level of incompetence exhibited by both the US and British governments during this pandemic just wouldn't fly here in Korea, in this day and age.

Korea has factories making 10 million N95 near equivalent masks per day. They can buy 2 per week for $1 each. You know cloth has holes where 0.3 micron particles will definitely penetrate. KF94 filters out 94% N95 filters 95%... surgical masks filters 60-80%, cloth masks less than 20%. There is a reason why nurses in L.A. protested having to work with surgical masks instead of N95 masks in Covid ward. We better hope nobody we walk near has Covid-19 with just a cloth mask.

Conclusion, US, especially the largest and most populated cities became extremely vulnerable and they still are. NYC is over crowded with more citizens per capita than any other territory in United States. 80% of states has much less people than NYC. New York City is just a very small portion of New York State. NewYork state is one of the largest states in the nation. However, almost half of New York population is concentrated in NYC.

Most South Koreans have been accustomed to wearing masks when they go to the outside and some people used to wear gloves to defend themselves. So far, Koreans have been bullied by the dirtiest air pollution from China's factory areas, to be honest. So they needed masks if air status isn't good all the time. Practically, using gloves can protect people's conditions against the virus infection because most citizens may grab various things like a handgrip of a subway train, bus, escalator. Supposing that the US manufacturing facilities might have produced that enough numbers of masks and gloves, most Americans might have avoided the virus infection.

The biggest difference which this video barely mentioned was in the treatment.I S Korea when you tested positive they began treatment.In America even if you were able to get a test it really didn't matter as when testing positive you received no treatment.They simply told you to go home and be quarantined.Any kind of treatment was suppressed and blocked and the only time you might get treatment was under a compassionate use edict.By that time proven medicines like hydroxychloroquin ,remsdavir and others became much less effective as the time to save you had long past.This video should have touched more on how S Korea decide how and what treatments people that tested positive received but that was mostly left out as always but you did mention that S Koreans did get treatment but it was only mentioned in passing where most probably never noticed that being mentioned .The biggest factor in the difference between how the two countries differed is almost completely left out.

Even considering difference of population, size, and density, the US has better ability of mass testing and medical care than South Korea. However, timing is more important under such an epidemic situation. For the US, wasting 2-3 weeks was fatal.

We're ignoring that matching the testing of South Korea in a country of 325 million people is impossible. However, the US has definitely handled the issue poorly (arrogance, ignorance, immaturity) in terms of government response and individual response (cue the Florida guy that said he wouldn't let it stop him from partying).

You act like we have to test the entire country immediately. Had we started tracing and tracking the infected immediately, we could have concentrated testing in certain cities and locations. But, no. We decided to wait until the infection spread almost everywhere until we started testing.

I do like the timely communication with the public that SK had when a positive case was discovered. I believe the US citizens would have responded similarly. It is unclear if such massive tracking of individuals had any actual effect. I think the biggest containment measure was early notification of the public.

Misleading title. The death rate in Korea is over 2%. The death rate in America is just over 3%. In other countries the death rate is in double digits. Korea has a great program for a small country, but Taiwan's is better. The universal healthcare argument is about the dumbest thing that could be brought up. Look at all of the European countries with universal healthcare and look at how well it's working out for them.

Your mortality rates are off. The US currently has a mortality rate of 3.4% and South Korea has a rate of 1.9. That may seem like a small difference, but it's significant.

@K0nc3pt10n 4 жыл бұрын
@@XanRex My rates aren't off by much and the rates are constantly changing. So 3.4 may be 3.5 or higher next week. It may be significant, but not as significant as comparing South Korea to nearly any other country. Countries that are faring better than the US are few and fewer are the ones that have the populations and sizes that are as difficult to manage. So what really is the point of the comparison here? We could just as easily make a video titled "Why Taiwan's Death Rate is Lower than South Korea" and you could say that the difference may seem small but it is significant.

Have you seen the size of S. Korea? Very small, but people are very effective and strong . One of the reasons that the country are so up now is they have had a lot of, a lot of trials without stopping for 5000 years. Now, they show who really they are. S. Korea is the only country that is able to deal with this pandemic. The only country on the Earth.

I'm Korean-American and it's so laughable to read all these ignorant postings. Korean government and society is one of most corrupt nation in the World. Do a search on how many previous Presidents are in prison for corruption. If they did such a great job than why did they have 10.000+ cases when Taiwan had 429. I'm not comparing which nation did better but try to understand every country is unique. Korea did a great job of containment but their key move was to quarantine all incoming travelers for 14 days while checking in on them. That was the key to stop new spread. USA's issue was second wave from Europe because they didn't close their borders from China in time and allowed it to spread. When American travelers returned from Europe, they brought back the virus and spread it widely. Because our laws prohibit our government from quarantining our citizens without court order, we were unable to stop the new spread. It's already been documented by scientists that most of virus detected in March came from Europe.

Not everyone is disciplined and follows the hygiene rules the government outlined. I know from first hand experience. I still saw people sneezing into the air or sneezing into their hands and not washing them immediately. I even got into a heated debate over personal hygiene and how it can effect my health with someone i thought was a friend. I see so many people still touching each other and not keeping social distance they think slapping on a mask will keep them safe. I have been in public restrooms with no soap so there goes wash your hands. Sure korea has keep numbers low but mainly because of their contact tracing not personal hygiene responsibility.
