Larian is so good at the animal dialogue. It genuinely sounds like the thoughts of an animal while being absolutely hilarious writing and voice acting.

“You have a brother” “Used to, mother ate him” Owlbears, they’re monstrosities for a reason.

I don’t remember which one was it exactly, but there were two wolves with an armored corpse of a dwarf. One said something along line of, “If master makes me eat the armor again, I’m going on a hunger strike.”

I cant imagine how fun it must of been to be the VA of the animals in this game.

Can we appreciate that they wrote and acted voicelines for every single animal in the game just for one spell.

I learnt all the way back in divinity OS1 that talk to animals is a must get in every one of their games. Not only do animals often give good hints for puzzles, but they also are the funniest parts of the game

Larian took the rules for speak to animals and tossed them out the window in exchange for fun. Unsurprising considering their previous titles.

There's also a hyena at the beginning of Act 2 that you can save from being abused by the goblins if you speak to him using Speak with Animals.

Okay but... if you DON'T use it on His Majesty... and you just hiss back... and you have been romancing Astarion... he gives you the gem of a response of: At least you PURR for me. 😏

You can also speak with the spider under the goblin castle on act 1, and convince them that Goblins are delicious for some extra muscle if you're going to attack them, or just for fun because they will not trigger hostile if you do it, they are their own team.

This is exactly how I imagine cats would be if they could talk.

OMG, I hadnt heard Scratch's voice, he really IS the bestest boy. My Ranger can summon him, but I wouldnt dare in case he got hurt, it doesnt matter if I can heal him, look, Ive seen every party member dissolve in acid, turn to stone, rot to death, drown in lava, fly off cliffs...but you harm ONE HAIR on his precious head and they wont find enough of you to bury, they'll be picking up your scraps up and down the Sword Coast for 100 years ...Im going to go play fetch with him now

the little things they add to this game that has little to no effect overal is just amazing

Choose a Forest Gnome specificly for the 100% free uptime of the spell. Its added alot of flavor to the game. Specially as a Bard with high Persuasion.

That dog one is just sad. You can tell Scratch is in denial. Even though we all know that his owner isn’t getting up and is clearly dead he still holds onto a false hope that his owner will be fine. And honestly even though I almost always play as an evil character in these types of games even I wouldn’t have the courage to tell him the truth.

I love how the animals are consistent too the cats are all little snobs and the squirrels are all little nutters

The details and the different options and stories we get just by using a simple spell is insane

His majesty is great. when he told me the cleric was a lier i was like "ooooo important plot hints?". then he just told me "She didn't give me any milk >:(c" and i lost my shit

You get a ton of the talk to animal potions. Theres a necklace that gives you talk to the dead as well. Make sure you use them!

Im unaware of DnD lore, but I felt bad for killing it after it said all it wanted was some hay, clean stall, and some brushing.

The most amusing thing about this dialogue that Astarion aproves it twice. He found a kindred spirit :D

The Addled Frog has different dialogue and can show you treasure if you cleanse the area before talking.

Talk to Animals AND Talk to the Dead are important. :)

I met that unusual bull outside of Baldur's Gate in that small town. When I chose the option of leaving, he was like 'No, don't go, let me come with you into the city in a smaller form'. Being a villain, i said okay.

TIP: Don't skip through dialogue, Sometimes it will exit out of conversation after the first sentence leading you to believe that npc held no additional dialogue.

I've cast Speak With Animals after every long rest and it's made the game WAY more enjoyable. Getting Scratch as a familiar made me more happy than anything else this past week

Speak with dead is super useful too. Tip I figured out somewhere, if you kill an npc in combat they won't "speak to their killer" but if you disguise self and THEN speak with dead you can get the info you want. My evil necromancer characters favourite interrogation technique. lol

This game has made a history. The amount of contents this game has should be the new industry standard

My main is a Druid so I've been talking to every animal in game. I tried another class and party that didn't have it...Playing without Speak with Animals feels like an entirely different game.

I gave my sorcerer talk with animals specifically because of how hilarious it was in DOS2. I do not feel disappointed at all.

If you played Divinity 2, you know that the "Talk to animals feat/perk" increased the amount of quests and rewards by at least 30%. Rangers, Druids, Warlocks, and Nature Clerics are going to get access to so much more of BG3 than the classes that don't the speak with animals spell/invocation.

The best part is when you intimidate His Majesty: he responds “oh, I suppose you’re right” and then just calms down.

Honestly really glad I took Beast Speech as an invocation early. Animals are just other NPCs now. It's fun Also scratch is the goodest of bois

Speak with Animals is a ritual spell, and as of Hotfix 2 any class that can cast it essentially casts for free. Druids: prep it after a long rest, cast, then swap it out. Stays up till you rest and the game doesnt penelaize you for swapping spells.

First time watching this spell work on "His Majesty", he immediately reminded me of the famous talking black cat that was Salem Saberhagen who was voived by Nick Bakay in Sabrina the Teenage Witch and its animated series.

If one thing i know for sure larian studio best kept secret are : if you have a opportunity to talk to animal, however hard or might like you should invest in other important thing, you should talk to animal properly. Since divinity ( forgot if divinity 1 have the option, but surely cemented in the 2) talking to animal early on gives you advantages to unfair level

It was VERY difficult to not steal the milk from the ritual in order to give it to His Majesty.

speak to animals, read thoughts and raise dead are almost a requirement. the amount of content let alone optinal things it unlocks is amazing. also the benofit about those three skills you dont need to lern them. all three can be found on items within the first act area

FYI if you have 1 character with the Ritual Spell feat you can slot Speak With Animals and Speak With Dead as ritual spells meaning you can cast them anytime out of combat without consuming spell slots and access all that extra content (which is QUITE significant!) at the cost of 1 feat on 1 character but without the downside of spell slot consumption. FYI the game will highlight animals/dead who are "interactable" if you have these abilities; not all of them do.

Warlock is perfect. You only ever use 2 spell in fights: eldritch blast and EX. So first boons are agonizing blast and speak with animals, second repelling blast, with pact of the book you get speak with the dead, if eldritch entity is your patron you can read minds. And since all abilities come from Charisma i slay in both persuasion and combat. purrfect.

I literally take ritual magician as my 4th level feat so I can grab this spell. It's so much fun. It's a shame speak with the dead isn't as good. But then again if you could speak with EVERY corpse it would be kinda .. impossible to do.

It's amazing how a whole line of characters can be missed simply because you chose a non-magic playthrough and didn't bother with scrolls that let you talk to them. Best part is, the animals are literally everywhere. You could do a whole run as a druid who attacks everyone on site and only makes friends with animals lol.

Can you imagine if Larian actually went so far as if you cast speak with dead and speak with plants, you could talk to furniture.....

The dialogue cutscenes are so pretty and then it switches to the third person top down view where you can barely see any detail at all.

I've encountered two hairless cats in this game so far, and they're both voice acted immaculately.

The strange ox is literally the talking cat from Rick and Morty.

I hope they add His Majesty as a recruitable pet at some point...

I also believe Speak with the Dead is another must-have spell. Even though you have limited questions to ask before the spell wears off. You can get some lore out of them sometimes whenever it's important or not.

I cannot say enough how perfect the owlbear is. Menacing, cruel but not in an evil way. Definitely dangerous.

The Elder Rothe sounds less like a cargo beast and more like an old entity.

the frog has different dialogue and is celebrating after you kill that old lady who's the monster thingy, and it takes you to treasure

So, I met this stray once, and she was old and very thin. She would get closer and closer, and I thought she might be hungry. So, I went into a part of the woods she'd frequent and left a boiled chicken leg. She kept looking around, after I'd left, to make sure that it was okay for her to take it. The next day, I saw her full of energy and mousing. She didn't come back asking for handouts. A really proud, old fashioned lady.

My favorite one was the pigeon at the post office so far, you skipped that one? Talk with the pigeon guys, that is funny too.

Once I started using this spell or potions to give me the ability, I realized how helpful this ability is for your character, and the lengths that Larian went to with their voice acting.

Speak with animals is 90|% of the reason I multiclassed into bard.

My only complaint with this spell is that I wish you could use it to talk to a wizard familiar, or a Beastmaster Ranger animal companion. that would be cool.

Dude i never really used Speak with animals that much, i usually go around looking for dead people to talk to, then i tried talking to the royal cat at The Last Light and found it funny. Afterwards, i missed that perception check and talked randomly to that Ox at Dammon’s for no reason at all, and i was flabbergasted to see what ended up happening lmao Been speaking to every animal ever since

The dog one is so on point though, I have heard so many stories of dogs refusing to leave their master's side long after their master has already died. Or if their master leaves and dies somewhere away from them, they will wait at the spot they expect their master to return to for days or even weeks until someone forces them to stop. It can be heartbreaking but it really is true that dogs do have a strong tendency for extreme unwavering loyalty like that

Because if you've ever played a Larian game you know that even just the *hints* animals can give you are incredibly helpful, and that's before you get into how they can sometimes either be integral to quests or be quest givers themselves

There is a cat in the Moon Tower who tell you little things of your past if you play Datk Urge.

Well for a "normal game" you expect one or two extra options but in bg3 if they get you an option they fucing go all out and i mean it: they made every fucing animal speak, the same with the dead. Truly majestical: on a good RPG you may want to try out different approaches to a problem but here... there are literally no boundaries on how you want to address the problem!

my favorite thing about speak with animals in BG3 opposed to Divinity is how even though there are comedic animal NPCs there are also a large range of characteristics and many are taken very seriously as any other NPC. DOS2 had lots of talking animals but the vast majority of them where more for jokes.

This is a lesson you learned back in DOS2

I always have a stock of speak with animal potions and someone with speak with dead, because I have crippling FOMO and must see all the dialogue.
