Due to the lack of disposable income right now I've been rescuing mini's from my awful painting style in the early 90's, there's a marked improvement which I'm attributing to watching your channel.

6 pints of blood and a couple ounces of semen (donated at proper facilities, ya cant just go asking people on the street) would land you enough dough to get into 3d printing then you can have all the new minis to your hearts content.

I painted my last Mini about 36 years ago (Battletech) 😂 I just bought a SLA-Printer and now I’ve got tons of printed stuff … that looks really cool, but definitely will look cooler painted. I really have to admit, you‘ve got a way to motivate people to try painting on their own 👍 … and if it will come out awful, at least now I‘ve got one to blame on 😜😂

Of all the mini painters I watch on KZfaq, you are probably my favourite. I really like your perspective of improving your skills, getting good looking models, but not sweating the small stuff nobody pays attention to anyway. 13 days since I painted a mini. Got a bit burnt out painting, so have been building terrain. I find it a good way to recharge when I get bored of painting minis.

I took a two year break from painting due to my anxiety and fear of failure around painting mini's but I just recently started painting again last week. Watching videos like this can be helpful but I need to accept that I'm still new to the hobby and I'm obviously going to make a ton of mistakes as I learn. Thanks for the video.
@samuelbroad11

all those mistakes are actually new techniques for your tool box. sounds facetious but it's true. Another tip is to paint your favourite mini's, don't wait until you're "good" enough. Just do it because you like the sculpt. Good luck with your anxiety, I know it can be paralysing.

I used to paint minis with the exact same attitude. What helped me was playing around with low stake figures. I could learn how to paint and not ruin them. The only goal was fun. When I went back to the more expensive amazingly sculpts the anxiety of messing up was gone. Learning is part of the fun but we ruin it by unrealistic expectations. Midwinter minis video where he just decide to paint up his precious space hulk figures started the process for me. Who cares if you paint them the wrong shade of red. Ha ha. It’s just for enjoyment
@samuelbroad11

@@carlstanford7607 exactly this too. Bunch 4-6 minis, maybe with some variety in the sculpts, but racing through the same or similar colour schemes can get your mojo fired up. Never underestimate an oil wash and wipe afterwards too, especially on figures you care less for.

Jon you're one of my favorite Minnesotans. This video was so intriguing and kind of broke my brain when it comes to shadows and color theory. Every one of those speed painted minis came out beautifully. To answer your question, I had taken a year off from painting due to some severe depression, and just got back into the hobby. Your channel, scotts, and You two on TUP together reignited that passion 10 fold and has helped me out of that slump and made me a more positive person. I've completed 4 models in the last month alone.

I had some instructors that are into painting minis too and their hours vary widely. Contrast paints let them crush a few models in an hour here and there and yield great results. I like putting down one darker contrast colour as a base then dry brushing in one or two highlights. Models look great in no time!

I think the title is just meant to be inflammatory to get clicks. The final message seems to be find a way of painting that makes you satisfied and stick with it so that you get your models done and enjoy painting. It sounds like you've found something like that with contrast paint and that's fantastic!

I have a friend visiting for a week. Our jobs have kept us super busy, and moving has kept me busy too. BUT! I got the craft/ painting room set up before they came down, and we crushed out a few minis two days ago. My issue was being ok with leaving areas in painted or focusing on those unseen parts less. We both managed to do just that and the models turned out better than a lot of what I've painted so far, and it was relaxing to boot. Looking forward to bringing out the brush again this week!

Outside of a few random dabbling where I almost did touch ups, the last model I painted was...about a week ago? I have been in a building/kitbashing mode getting the last few models in my first batch of Orks ready. This poor army has languished with little to no paint for over a decade, my first army. But I have made SO much progress in the past month or two and I finally like my paint scheme, so it has felt like the most productive I have been. All that said, I don't have a routine and really should push myself to sculpt one sooner rather than later. I have a goal to have a painted force for every game I play, and while I got progress, I still have a ways to go. I appreciate your videos, they are always entertaining to watch. The honesty and sincerity really do help me feel better about being in this hobby, no matter what I end up doing.

The minis turned out really nice! The technique results in a specific style of painting (Ninjon speed style?) versus calling it a speed system. I froze the frame at 13:26 and studied them for awhile and it's like, "Yeah, the color scheme looks right for each model, the highlights are perfect, and even though each model's color scheme is different, collectively they compliment each other." Well done, dude! As an aside, "motivational painting coach" came to mind for those who need motivation. I'm sure they were inspired.

I finished my last mini earlier today. Trying to finish up an old project of beautiful but highly detailed minis :). Thank you John for producing such wonderfully inspiring content

Beautiful video. I really appreciated the advice here to just paint with the advocacy to do something simple but not robotic. It's been many months since I last painted. This video is gonna change that.

It has been two years (maybe 2.5) since I've last actually painted a mini. I have thrown some colors on some army men to see if I wanted to use those colors for an army, but I haven't *painted* in a while. This has helped, definitely. It has gotten me to relax about getting back into it again and realizing that I don't have to put in *so* much time of effort each time I pull out my paints. thanks!

About three weeks ago. Tried a few techniques you’ve explained in the past. Wasn’t a success but I’m glad I gave it a shot

Painting takes a back seat to motorcycling when the weather is nice. Come November I'll be painting alot more.

I do find painting relaxing. I'm a fairly new painter (just a couple of weeks). I was curious about "speed painting," but now I feel really good about just painting. I painted less than 24 hours ago and now need to get back to it and relaxing. Thanks!

It's been 4 or 5 months. I also love music and play bass guitar, so if you add that to job and family other hobbies tend to suffer. But watching your videos always make me want to pick up the brushes! Thanks man.

It's been a couple weeks since I've painted anything, but months since I've completed a mini. This definitely gave me a couple ideas to use on the squad I currently have half painted.

I finished painting a squad of 4 models about a week ago. I've been building new models since and can't wait to paint again.

It‘s been a week since I last painted.. I have started to overthink too much, so I really liked the part where you said to just paint in a way that gets you back to the table. :)

Thanks Jon! This right here is why I'm subscribed. Good, honest advice. To your question: I painted this afternoon. I'm working on a JotL mini right now, in fact!
