Notably, the first parade (1917) was over half a century after the 1840s famine. Many Irish had already moved across the Midwest and Great Plains. Those still on the seaboard had already established themselves in both enclaves and local government. Assimilation, or more accurately cultural diffusion since Irish culture heavily influenced the US as well, takes time.

Why do you show a modern day map of North and South Ireland @ 0.42 when you talk of emigration? Emigration happened way back when the entire land of Ireland was a single country governed by Great Britain. Emigration was also a consequence of how they governed the country through religious and political suppression and a landlord system of induced poverty, principally by British landlords.

All counties in the world have different in their country this was the same for ireland, what you speak is to make a ireland british which is so stupid, it is like telling the French people that they are German. Even before the English came to Ireland and may not have been united (As I said like all other countries, just look at the English) they were all irish people. THE END

@Straight White British Protestant now I know you talk a load of shit, Ireland was controlled by the England, the focht against it so the people were not happy,so it was not united. Let's get real the island of ireland will be a real united after so many years like the people in Germany in 1990 (it was split for not many years) but still united as one country. This is my last message to you. Beabnacht mhaith Agus dea-luck. Éire go Deo.

Ther border between north and south in Ireland didnt exist till 1921. Your graphic has a border in place when then genocide of the Irish happened between 1845 to 1849. That period was called a famine yet british rulers removed tons of food from the island of Ireland.

"no mention of why the Irish were forced to migrate" She does mention it, but probably takes her account from English history books-she calls it a "famine" instead of the genocide it was. My English friends were amazed and shocked when I showed them how Ireland had plenty of food at the time the potato failed, but the English continued exporting the rest while starving 1M+ of the native population to death and forcing another 1M+ to emigrate. There's never been a mention of this in English secondary school history books, altho it is apparently acknowledged in University-level history. Same can be said about Churchill's 1943 Bengal genocide, and countless others. Anyone with doubts who wants to do quick research, I suggest checking out Sir Charles Trevelyan.

Do you know the history of this beer? I will tell all the tale to whom doesn't know. Guinness was a failure to the Irish and were up for bankruptcy/ shutting down soon. Rats... Yes the rodent, rats were infested inside their brewery at late end before going out of business. These rats got brewed into the beer sold at pubs etc. It was NOT intentional by Guinness. .. They didn't know until later so much how badly their brew was infected by rats dying in it etc.... And I assume they didn't care because were closing... But It completely changed the taste of this beer and consumers LOVED it and became a sensational smash in sales.... It gained more customers. ... So MUCH that it kept Guinness in business and didn't need to shut down!!!! Then they discovered why.... It was the rats. So what they did next was testing a new beer yet same old recipe using animal blood etc added to it.... They came up with a dead ringer taste. They controedl rat situation. ..got rid of them... Sanitized tanks.. And ever since then... We drink their new recipe yet is NOT vegan but is not from rats. Have you ever heard folks say drinking a Guinness is like eating a full meal??? Have you experienced this for yourself? Now you know why! Then many brewery's took up on them using animal ingredients to their beer. However there are many VEGAN beers sold... Including cheap beers. Just google which are vegan beers or not. This is a true story and NO BS. Edit PS... In Ireland their Guinness is a different recipe than sold in America. I've been told it's a much better tasting beer over there VS what is available here in the States. I wonder why...

@@zippitydodaday6037 Very inventive story! ☺ "In Ireland their Guinness is a different recipe than sold in America. I've been told it's a much better tasting beer over there VS what is available here in the States. I wonder why" Even in Ireland, there can be considerable difference between one pub and another-certain pubs become known as the place to go if you want the best. There are many varieties of Guinness, and variations on the contents of each depending on the country. My guess is it's after test marketing in each market-Guinness are pretty savvy marketers.

@@silversolver7809 Don't ever buy the canned version even with ball inside. It taste more like pale ale sh!t. It's really off in taste and includes metallic taste as a side kick. It must come from tap , and takes the bartender a minute to pour it into a glass for yourself . If a bartender doesn't take the proper time amount to pour it right... Tell them to F off and buy a sh!t bottled beer instead. Guinness is like Sherry. ... It NEEDS to settle and in segments. Guinness is far less time. If a bartender hands you a Guinness in less of 4-7 minutes. ... They don't know jack squad about this beer and should be fired or trained
