Great review. In The Republic, Plato explains how Socrates wanted to ban all actors, poets, and artists from his ideal state because mimetic art, which is twice removed from truth, has a bigger influence on humans than reality itself.

Thanks James. I tried reading Simulacra & Simulation recently which is very much along this same idea (it influenced The Matrix movies). Reality abstracted becomes more real and the underlying base reality can decay. Funny to see how ideas almost always have a root back to long ago in the past.

I am a transistorized, transgenderized, transmogrified, trans-human A corporatized, commercialized, industrial strength consumer A goal setting, gym sweating, debt fretting freak A social climbing net worker that's always on heat I got my education majoring in indoctrination Where they taught me to comply, to never question why And so I'm chasing an illusion of success that's a delusion That's sending me insane, exploding my brain And as we teeter on the brink, soon to be extinct I always wear a smile, coz I'm living in denial.

That's quite the poem mate. Did you come up with it yourself?

Awesome thank you mate. We split it up between Juan and myself (Kyrin) but I do most of the reviews. I'm currently travelling at the moment so Juan has been taking over for a bit but I should be back at it in a weeks time 😁

I enjoy reading, however time is a finite resource, i appreciate the discovery of this channel for when im working. Great analysis and explanations, especially the visual vs audio only example with jfk.

Hey Hathway! Thanks mate, have been really spending some time thinking about how to make these better and more informative. It was really funny reading a book like this and then just wondering what the author Neil would have thought about all the crazy stuff going on nowadays!

@@MereMortalsBookReviews I guess you're providing a service, perhaps providing some notes would be the first thing? I'm sure some Ai would be able to do that relatively easily. Perhaps a discord, I'd enjoy discussing the books and revelations you reveal there. Who knows what Neil would have thought? I hadn't heard of him until your video , I've studied others who shall we say against technology, uni bomber etc. I actually saw TV show(ironically) that highlighted the phenomenon called" schrodinger's cat" , in ours mind Neil could both have hated n loved the modern world, both "realities exist for us to ponder, unlike the cat in the box we won't ever know, and that's okay.

Thanks for the input hathway, very helpful. I don't focus too much on text based things because I'm not a great writer. English was always my weak point at High School (not that I was bad, just way better at STEM subjects). We actually do have a discord if you feel like joining (link is in the description) and there is a books section. We haven't focused too much on posting there until actually really recently. So it may be slightly quiet but I'll start mentioning it at the end of the videos as well.

He didnt think technology was bad. I feel his messaga was that technology needed to be approached more cautiously

Hey Ryan. It certainly wasn't a straight up condemning of technology. But this book I'd categorise as anti-TV for sure. I do plan on reading his other books for a nuanced perspective.
