What really happened at the Battle of Culloden? - On the 16th of April 1746, the Jacobite army, led by Charles Edward Stuart, met the Hanoverian government force, led by William Augustus, Duke of Cumberland on Drumossie Moor, near the village of Culloden.
Culloden would be the last pitched battle fought on UK soil. The battle marked the last stand of the House of Stuart and the Jacobite cause and accelerated the end of clan culture as a way of life.
