I've alwyas loved Gunba for being honest and actually this interview goes beyond. Yiska as always getting the big, serious interviews for those of us who lack this type of content. Also the Swiss Seating is redicolus just look at ExO - why play the same time twice instead of all the teams in the group.

$500 bucks a month?? WTF is going on?? Basically working for free. Plus hasn't been paid out his previous earnings from recent tournaments! I don't blame him, you either get out or go homeless.

It’s called supply and demand, there is no demand for pro overwatch, so therefore there is no orgs.

I agree with a lot of what Gumba said but this seems like such a crazy 180 - he was so big on the EU region on uncoachable saying they were close to Korea. Also was so big on ENCE so seems like he’s really overdramatised so much of thus

I mean to be fair on podcast and talk shows you always hear coaches hype up their own teams so I’m not surprised he kinda hyped his team up.

@@lofikid6260 I get how you feel and I think he definitely comes off as egotistical but I could imagine how pissed he was when he found out the EWC prize pool and all his hopes and dreams for Overwatch kinda came crashing down.

Yeah talking on CommanderX's costream today he was saying any teams without Korean imports would be impossible to win with and he said he was really Korea pilled the more he watched

He has solid points, especially wrt money and viewership. But this also has clear signs of burnout: cynicism is a common symptom. Working at night (if that doesn't come natural) alone for a long time will cause it.

Hardly the best, more like the worst. Such a hypocrite too. Didn't he say on uncoachable that people should work for free, now he's crying because he took a payout and his team didn't win. Thank god he's leaving, don't let him stay in OW and ruin teams.

im confused. i havnt been in the overwatch scene religiously. although i agree on they should do something about the monotonous casters, i cant agree on that ovwcs hasnt been getting streamed. the thing has been on twitch consistently with most of the communitys streamers actually costreaming owcs as well. there is no shortage of owcs. the streamers are definitely pumping it out. now that could be because they are getting compensated for doing that but that is beside the point. Therefore, on that one point i disagree. There is too much owcs in my opinion and that makes it seem like its not actualy a serious event. but the casters gotta go. I also agree on gumbas points about the reason why overwatch is unwatchable. same comps, same playstyles, the viewer cant process what theyre watching and separate bad from good, the casters, no personalities, no drama. the game needs drama

He lost the coach hunger games. His ego was too big for the sport. He's such a hypocrite, all the shit he said on uncoachable, that people should work for free and now he's crying.

I think he just lost optimism tbh. He took a large paycut himself as a coach for mayhem because he was optimistic. He stuck around for 6 months cuz he still was on the hopium but then that optimism was gone. Honestly don't blame him

The timezone burnout is also very real considering most other coaches are at least within their region and can operate in a semi normal hours. The prize pool was probably just the last straw

from a viewer POV: the game in this format is trash to play, to watch and to compete in. everything comes back to how the game has changed over the past 4-5 years. I loved watching OWL in 2018-2020 during goats, sfs era etc. the game was wacky, not as fast, more chaotic at times, the team skill floor was lower and ceiling was higher. There were less, but more meaningful teamfights. Now it's just watching the same walking out of spawn crap over and over again and the matchups are boring. the roots of this problem might've been the game itself, not necessarily the mismanagement of OWL. The OWL bummer was just another pile of ***** they did to make it even worse. they never should've gone to 5v5 and they never should've released heroes overkitted, aka bap, sig, brig. they should've focused on the pvp way earlier and invest in the franchise instead off leaving it to dry, when it was good. the game needs to be good, to sustain a playerbase, which then snowballs into more viewership, maybe a sustainable esports, inspiring young players etc... they just forced the esports so much while the game got worse and worse. the only way I can see them going back to glory is if they make another big move (Overwatch 3), go back to role queue before sigma was released, rework all the heroes to make them fit into a 6v6 format, invest in marketing and devs, hype up the game, bring back animated shorts etc. bring back the OW1 vibe and then build from there.
