What? Was he really pressured to be good right away? I mean the Warriors only got that #2 pick cus all their starters were injured and they had a bad year but once they all healed up, they were back to being the good Warriors. If anything I thought Wiseman could come along slowly and develop while the Warriors were winning, but Wiseman couldn't even do that

Lol that's what happens when you get so much hype since high school, you have all these KZfaq channels like HoopIsLife or whatever following these kids around everywhere and filming them just for content for their channel, telling them they are a lock for a lottery pick in NBA. Then these kids get a big head and think they are hot sh*t (Bol Bol and Nico Mannion, remember them?) Then they end up flaming out in the league, so their best moments in life were in high school, while these KZfaq channels just move on to the next #1 prospect every year. It's a vicious buisness

This man will always be known as "the guy drafted right before Luka" 💀 I usually feel bad for players when they're put in these high pressure situations, but Bagley has complained and looked for too much excuses. His dad crying on Twitter to trade him, refusing to check in after the Coach ordered him to, and just looking out of rhythm with his teammates on most nights. It's insane that he has all the physical tools to easily be an NBA All-Star, but his ego and lack of commitment to improve holds him from anything he can be. I think his best bet is to go to the Euro League, work on defense and footwork around the rim, and come back to the NBA in 2 season with a different mindset. If Bagley fixes these things and becomes a reliable second option that can put up 15ppg, 1.5bpg and 12rpg, he would be a great player to team up with Anthony Edwards. I'm not a Timberwolves fan but I'd love to see this man improve and team up with Edwards to do special things in Minnesota.

Yeah I used to just think he was a complete bust. But was really looking into his career. He hasn't played more than 48 games a season except his rookie year, and then he only played 60. Just looking on paper, he actually puts up decent numbers for the minutes he plays. His Per 36 stats would be great, he'd be a consistent 20-10 guy! But he doesn't play 36 mins, he only averages like 24 mins a game

While Bagley is a bust and he was drafted in front of a huge amount of talent, "biggest bust"? Is absolutely insane. @@Smido83 You’re seriously overestimating Bagley. Maybe he hangs around and forges a long career like Nerlens Noel, but I doubt it. Context matters too. The literal next 3 guys selected after Bagley have either made all-nba or DPOY. Of the top 5, he’s the only one to not get a max extension. He’s quickly becoming one of the worst #2 picks of all time in that regard. That lost value is higher than pick #4. This is why I believe the bust is bigger. He hasn’t played over 48 games in a season since his rookie year, and he missed 19 that year too. Josh Jackson has more games played and NBA minutes.

@@mekacrab that 2nd case I mentioned was the 1989 NFL Draft, where 4 of the first 5 picks made it in the Hall of Fame; Troy Aikman, Barry Sanders, Derrick Thomas, and Deion Sanders. The only player picked in the Top 5 who did NOT make the Hall of Fame was Tony Mandarich, who was picked 2nd overall by the Green Bay Packers. As previously mentioned, the next 3 picks were the aforementioned B. Sanders, Thomas, and D. Sanders. While Thomas and the Sanderses all had Hall of Fame careers, Mandarich ended up being one of the biggest busts in NFL history (it has since come to light that the biggest reason Mandarich ended up becoming such a major bust in the NFL in the first place was because his college production that made him the 2nd overall pick was fueled by steroid use, and that Mandarich quit steroids right when he went pro because he knew he would get caught if he didn't). Of course, the fact that the Packers passed on 3 future Hall of Famers would be forgotten about within 4 years thanks to trading for Brett Favre and signing Reggie White in free agency. Considering how successful the Packers have been in the last 3 decades, it's easy to forget how much their franchise could have been set back by the Mandarich pick when 3 Hall of Famers were available.

The kings do a lot wrong but not this. His dad didn’t want him on the kings as soon as he was drafted and made numerous public statements about it. He also took ages longer to come back from injuries of similar stature compared to other players. Luke Walton wasn’t the best coach by any stretch but Bagely didn’t want to play for the organization for day 1. (Things you realize and pick up as a life long kings fan)

Idk about this. I know he never lived up to his number 2 overall draft status but to say that he’s the biggest bust in recent memory is a little wild. If you want to say that Anthony Bennett “too far back” to be considered in the category for recent memory, which I don’t but whatever, then fine. Look at the draft before Bagley’s. Markelle Fultz was drafted before all NBA player Jayson Tatum and Fultz has done nothing to show he’s anything more than an average guard. Or if you think injures played a man part in his failure then fine. Josh Jackson, the 4th pick, is out of the league right now

So I’m from Arizona. He was without a doubt the best prospect to ever come out of the state. But his problems were that: 1. In reality he’s more of a 4 without the high level skill set of a modern 4, so he’s shoehorned at the 5. 2. His special skill was and is his athleticism and finishing ability. His second jump is one of the quickest/best. But that advantage gets minimized once you get to the pros, where elite college and prep finishers are now merely above average. 3. That athleticism didn’t really translate to the defensive end. He plays like a guy who had a physical advantage all his life before the pros and never learned a counter, or a different way to produce and adapt. Never learned how to evolve his game and think the game because he didn’t really need to.

As a die-hard Sacramento Kings fan, I was so mad when the Kings passed on Luka Doncic and drafted Marvin Bagley III instead. I wanted that De'Aaron Fox and Luka Donćic duo on the Kings so damn badly but hey at least when my Sacramento Kings have a good team now so I'm happy about that but man imagine De'Aaron Fox and Luka Doncic on the same team

Bagley on the Kings honestly wasn't that bad. That one year with Dave Joerger he fit in perfectly with the run & gun playstyle. I mean sure Dave Joerger limited his minutes and had him restrained, but Bagley was putting up solid numbers on less than 20 minutes per game. I think the dysfunction in the Kings front office and all the coaching changes, on top of being plagued by injuries was what led to him becoming a "bust."

As a kings fan I can say that as bad as Bagley was for us he was far from the worst draft pick the kings have made. He looks worse because of luca being drafted behind him. I thought we were going to take Luka because Vlade Divac was our GM at the time, not sure why he didnt but maybe it had to do with the fit. Bagley at least had a decent rookie season, he wasnt Thomas Robinson or Jimmer Fredette or Nic Stauskus, he has a lot talent and you can see it sometimes. He was supposed to play with Fox like Sabonis does but it didnt work, thats why you take the best player in the draft over the best fit.

So your case that Marvin Bagley is a bigger bust than Ben Simmons is based entirely on the idea that the 2018 draft was stronger than the 2016 draft? I'll buy that the 2018 draft was stronger but Ben Simmons is a bigger bust and he was drafted #1 not #2.
@LeonarRonquillo
@LeonarRonquillo 9 ай бұрын
Simmons is not a bust by any means. He was literally an all-star and all-NBA player before his shenanigans with Sixers fell out. He had the physical skill set, his problem is more of a conditional or mental thing.

I disagree with Bagley being a bust okay he is the 2nd overall pick i can understand that he didn't develop the player we expected but at least he got his second chance when he was traded to detroit. He was drafted in a bad situation and the kings used him badly as they have a reputation to develop poorly their younger players. Bagley needs to be more consistent with his game improve his shooting and he will be in the league for a longer time.

I remember the hype when he signed to duke years ago. Duke even unretired the number 35 to get him there. Espn etc touted him as the next end all be all of basketball players. Only for duke to not make the final fourenwith the greatest recruiting class in history. One of the several greatest recruiting classes in history Duke has had only to do nothing with it. Coach K gets labeled the greatest of all time only to do less with more than any coach ever.
