@@cjames22dox Oh, that's so good! So true! There is a little bit of a Brothers Grimm feel to it, except modern, isn't there? Did you ever see the Heath Ledger & Matt Damon The Brothers Grimm movie? I liked it. I loved Heath Ledger, too. He's actually in three of my top ten movies. My second favorite movie is A Knight's Tale. I was an English Major so had studied a lot of Chaucer, so when he showed up in it played by Paul Bettany (probably best known these days as Vision in The Avengers movies/shows) in it was a hoot. Plus, I love Ren Faires, so the jousting was fun. Good soundtrack too, though not on par with The Crow's. I actually have an Eric Draven tattoo that is all black, and sometimes people think it's Heath's Joker. I can live with that. I do correct them though.

I watched a Vloggers post on the upcoming remake in which i already referred to our favorite The Crow as such. I didn't know this channel was going to label it as such as well. In my opinion, "Modern dark fairy tale" seems like a fitting label to describe a movie of this caliber. It has all the elements of a fairy tale: ¹Hero ²Familiar ³Villain ⁴Quest ⁵Fantastical Setting ⁶Magic ⁷Moral/Lesson ⁸Timeless Modern: set in a modern world (obviously) Dark: not just visually but in tone and depth of storytelling as well. I'm high, btw, which is probably why I am defending my comment even though I was never attacked about it, but I am high. I am supposed to ramble on and on. At least I am using proper grammar. You're welcome.

I feel like the pawn shop scene perfectly illustrates Eric's personality as well as his trauma. You really get a sense of the kind of person he used to be before Devil's Night, but because that night was so awful, you can see how much it's changed him as a person. He's still playful, humorous, and loving, but because he has so much rage in him, those parts have become twisted. I can guarantee you that before his murder, Eric would *never* have done the things he does throughout the film, but he does it all out of love and he does it with a rather twisted sense of humour. I love this about the story because it's true to what trauma actually does to you: you're still you, but you're a different version of you.

What none of the other movies get, and it doesn't get mentioned nearly enough with the original, is that quiet moments in the film are just as powerful and important as the rest of it. Eric talking to Albrecht and taking his memories of Shelly's pain and death, Sarah and Darla finally connecting, Eric talking to Sarah, etc., all have weight to them, but they don't have action, like the rest of the movie; they take the time to be be human, they take the time to feel the moment, and that carries the movie as much as any other parts of it

for me the top scenes: The memories of what happened, him transforming into the crow and burn by the cure playing the background Him talking to Officer Albret saying how little things meant so much to Shelly, he thought they were trivial. You see how much he realizes what little pieces of life lead to great memories and experiences. Him confronting Top Dollar not just in the night club but at the end when Top Dollar is rubbing it in that he cleared the crime that killed him and Shelly. He said "I have something to give you, I don't want it any more. 30 hours of pain! All at once! All for you!" and kills Top Dollar. But it's insane to pick favorite scenes. Great take. I just have one quibble. I don’t think those of us for whom this film means as much as you described took this film for granted. If not for the supreme artistry, the loss of Brandon alone made that impossible. It was an induction and a swan song all at once, which either held up a cracked mirror to who we already were or introduced us to the people we’d become as lovers of passionate filmmaking driven by love, pain & substance and not greed. What we may have taken for granted was that people would still be making movies this good based on original artist-driven ideas 30+ years later. Thanks for the tribute! We needed it this week.

The best movie ever made! Never again has there been such a dark and atmospherically intense film. Every actor, including the crows, delivers at the highest level. Plus the soundtrack, or rather the soundtracks! The "Music from the Original Motion Picture" ST is already awesome, but Graeme Revell's score for the movie doesn't have to hide behind John Williams, Alan Silvestri or Howard Shore! I even listen to the score much more often than the OST! In summary, we have a unique work of art here that lives from the actors, music, visuals, atmosphere and, above all, director Alex Proyas' outstanding flair for presentation and visualization. In the end, despite all the greatness of the film, one thought always remains: what a megastar Brandon Lee could have become.

I was 6 when the film came out but watched it for the first time when I was about 10 and became instantly obsessed. To me, The Crow is one of my favorite love stories in fiction - best of all, it’s set against the backdrop of an urban gothic fairytale. And of course, Brandon Lee’s performance just tugs at my heartstrings every single time. he’s on screen. I get so hollow inside once the film ends just thinking of all that potential. God knows how many times I’ve seen this film, but I know I will continue to do so until the end of the time - it’s a moving work of art, a tragically poetic masterpiece.

That was back when industrial was treated the same as European electronic dance at the time, since it was the 90s. KMFDM had their songs play in Bad Boys and Mortal Kombat 1995 and Annihilation, My Life With The Thrill Kill Kult had the title track to Hit and Run Holiday be featured in the OST to The Flintstones 1994, and Skinny Puppy's Hardset Head was included in the baffling but fun An American Werewolf in Paris soundtrack. It's criminal to not focus more on the usage of the Cure's Burn and the Crow's reveal. Robert Smith wrote the song specifically for the movie, which leads to the lyrics as well as the music setting the mood and encapsulating the movie's central themes beautifully. And seriously, the lyrics themselves and where the film uses them are a masterclass in placement and storytelling. It's the very epitome of everything O'Barr was expounding on in the comic. All within one single scene.

Paramount Pictures was going to distribute The Crow theatrically but due to Lee’s death they decided to not distribute it and Miramax Films ended up distributing the film and released it in May 1994. Paramount now owns 49% of Miramax since April 2020 and will be releasing The Crow on 4K Ultra Blu Ray this coming May just in time for the film’s 30th Anniversary. I just finished watching this movie a few minutes ago. I first saw it when I was an angsty teenager, and my name is also Eric; so it's always been special to me and I've seen it many, many times. But I had to watch it again after seeing the trailer for the remake. Anyway...I don't think you're giving the movie enough credit. Yes, Eric tosses the other rings aside while searching for Shelly's; but he later tosses them at Gideon to emphasize the point that the man is complicit in the crimes committed by Fun Boy's party pals. It's great how Gideon flinches every time a ring hits him, as if there's still a conscience in there somewhere. It's subtle things like that, I think, that make this film so memorable.

Eric has experienced the ultimate despair. He was unable to protect the woman he loved. The mirth he shows in this film doesn't stem from humor but him sitting on the razors edge of insanity. He has seen behind the curtain and realizes what a joke existence is. For my first novel I wrote an urban fantasy romance and the Crow was a huge inspiration for me. The line I used for explaining the story was. A love worth burning the world for.

With remake just recently having dropped a trailer, I'm not surprised to see The Crow stuff, especially on this channel. Having said that, This is very well done job! Did you pay proper homage to the film and the special nostalgia it carries, but the soundtrack and the actor as well. I can't say enough good things about it or this video. I'm very glad you folks covered it. Ill just be simple and say DAMN FINE JOB! Thanks, Lance!

I was 26 when The Crow comic hit the shelves, and I bought every issue. I saw the movie on its release, and bought the soundtrack shortly after that. I've never watched anything else claiming to be "The Crow". I watch the movie every year on March 31st, and will again next Sunday. I for sure won't be seeing the new remake. Some things should be sacred, and Brandon Lee's Eric Draven Crow is one of them.

In truth the reason this film is so great is because of the Director. Brandon did a great job, But Alex Proyas is an All-time great director.

It was an engagement ring, they hadn't got married yet . apart from that great review. The crow is one of my favorite movies , I remember first seeing it on laser disk back in 95 , the movie really spoke to me and I dragged my tattoo artist friend over to tattoo the window scene on my shoulder. F.Y.I you couldn't pause laser disks you would get A blue screen so we had to loop the scene for 3 hours.

True story, I went to a jeweler and had them engrave a necklace for my mother with the quote “Mother is the name for Gd on the lips and hearts of all children.” I went back years later and they were using it for all their customers…

Chester Bennington (R.I.P., king ❤) named his son "Draven" and got married on Halloween and his (ex) wife wore crows wings on their wedding day! That's how I first discovered the movie. I've watched it on every Devil's Night (Oct 30th) for 20 years now. 🔥

Mandatory viewing for fans of cinema. A game changer in the genre, this paved the way for movies like sin city, V for Vendetta and many more. I still jam this soundtrack on my Playlists.

What a great video ! Brandon Lee murdered this story. Wont ever be recreated. The new crows rendition may effect a new generation like it did us. Much respect . Through and through. Either way Brandon Lees performacnce is beyond a masterpiece.

I was like 12 when i first saw this and the villians were the worst most evil villians i had ever seen in something. That made it stick with me, seeing them get justice. The dark imagery is awesome, the guitar on the roof, it is all so damn cool. One of my favorite movies for sure! Great analysis

I remember picking up the graphic novel at the book store when I was 12. My mom bought it without even looking at it. Just assumed it was a comic 😂 Which it was but definitely not for a 12 year old. I saw stuff in that novel no kid should ever see. If you've read it you know what I'm talking about it's waaay more brutal than the film. But I loved every single page. Still read it from time to time.

I saw this in the theater 4-5 times. I was an avid reader of Entertainment weekly at the time and before Brandon's accident on set they reported the set was cursed (other on set production issues, weather, injuries). It's a masterpiece for the genre and it's sad he didn't live to see it. Not long after the Dragon movie about Bruce Lee came out and was that much more bittersweet as Bruce fights for his son against the stories curse. Anyway great retrospective. Could have been ten scenes at least in my opinion, there is so much good in this.
