The E chord… better known as, the dreaded E chord. It’s the bane of existence for beginner ukulele players. But what makes it, and other similar chords, so difficult to play?
In this session, we’ll show you how to conquer this chord, as well as, a few alternatives that you can use in lieu of it.

Loved this! ANSWERED all my Questions about thr mysterious E On Uke chord!!!! Its.always bugged me.that every song book i have for.uke... never has a song in e or that has E,.somsome songs always just sound really insincere

Just saw the lesson, really enjoyed it. Can I add that I also play the E chord as the E6 but I raise my finger just enough to kill the A string. I'll also do this for several other chords with that shape.

The top knuckles of my fingers absolutely, positively, CANNOT bend back enough to do an E chord the way you describe (which I've seen other people do). I've tried, I've practiced, but it just can't happen. They stay perfectly straight, barring the bottom string as well. I can KIND OF double barre, but I have to only barre the G & C with the ring and add the pinky to get E string. I still like the lowest E. Besides, House of the Rising Sun needs the lowest E to sound good . . . I'm just a masochist I guess.

4 4 4 and rest your 3rd 4 over the A string. 4 4 4 mute. Play the D shape but on 4th fret and rest on the A string.

I can't stretch my fingers when I have to put a finger on one free and the skip a fret to but another finger down

Try this exercise: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/p9ijqM5kyrnZfqM.html It’s a great warm up tool that builds dexterity in your fretting hand. Plus, you can do it to a metronome to work on timing 😊

Why not just mute the C string. Just make E7 shape but don't put pressure on C string, lightly touch it.

You touted the usefulness of the open E string, but you don't apply it to the beginner 4442 shape. Why can't I play 4402? That seems to be the easiest of all.

That chord would be an E5, a.k.a a power chord. This chord contains only the 1 (E) and the 5 (B). Without the third (G#), we can't define the quality of it, i.e. minor or major.
