AGREED I've daily driven my 6MT FBO 2011 M3 for 5-6 years now. Driven it from 40,000 miles to 130,000 miles. Best daily I've ever owned. Looking at swapping it for a lower mileage and starting the build over again. BMW just doesn't make one off M's like this anymore. Everyone has to shut up about them though so they don't keep driving the values up before I pickup the next one HA

Bro people overrate the rod bearing issue on the s65. I own one of these myself and they are really only an issue if you beat on the car before it is properly warm or you just live in a very cold climate where it takes extra long for the thick oil to circulate in the engine on a cold day. The reason the rod bearings fail prematurely is because the very thick oil (5w60) that BMW says you should use has a hard time lubricating the engine components when its cold out (I.e. this is why it is very important to let the car warm up properly). The thick oil has a hard time lubricating in between the rods (since the gap between the rod bearing is very small) and it causes premature wear to occur. This is also more common in the pre-lci models. If you just warm your car up properly and don't rev it high until it is at operating temperatures your original rod bearings will last well into the hundreds. Especially since you live in sunny California and cold weather is rare. It seems like you took proper care of the car. Although I will say, if you are worried about premature wear you should go do an oil analysis or just replace them altogether.
@djzaki
@djzaki 3 жыл бұрын
Yeah that is precisely why I have chose to wait to do mine. It is truly based on warming up the car and also on how you drive. for owners who beat their cars, itll definitely warrant an early replacement. Those who warm up their cars and drive it normally with occasional spirited driving are in the clear.

how long does it take to get to optimal temp? Also, usually how much does it cost to get Rod Bearings done? I understand that it really depends on where you live. Most people say about $2k to $2.5K but I think that may be in the LA area? I live in PA and there is an Indy shop that specializes in BMWs and I think they said $6k BUT I can't remember if that was just for the rod bearing or if it was for rod bearing and throttle actuators as well. I thought that was rather high.
@djzaki
@djzaki 3 жыл бұрын
Depends on the outside temperature but minimum 10 to 12 mins. But yeah 6,000 sounds steep. It should be no more than 3,000 and that includes doing other maintenance items in the same area like engine mounts! That 2k price out here are from indy shops too! They may be quoting for throttle actuators as well because they have to dig into the engine top to bottom and those are expensive parts! If you'll be doing actuators, do it when they actually go out. Don't do them preventative

@@ronin120 caymans are nice but I'd only get one if it were a gt4 or cayman s! The z4 coupe is sweet! But I don't think they're as easy to live with as the m3 due to the lack of a back seat and the size of the interior. I think the m3 is the best middle ground! But the best engine regardless.

Mines a manny but it's tough call vs DCT. Only around 20% on used market were manuals and tended to get slightly better price even tho DCT was $3k option.
