"cool", it's a miracle USA or China didn't rip off the entirety of it and say "our great leader personally invented this". But you did this to "Batman" and his batarang ninja stars. Which is exactly the story of Akira Kurosawa's The Magnificent Seven and the "old west" cowboy myth. It literally did not look like that until the aesthetic of it was popularized by Hollywood, based on technologies that Italian directors and Europe spread to Japan and USA started encroaching into. Now getting all their manufacturing from China with Okinawa cannons aimed at them at gunpoint. It's not "from" USA. USA has no culture, it gets the foreign influence first and brands it as Tex-Mex, after original owners are fleeing for thier lives. In Asia, the only country you really know about is Japan because it WAS made into a US carveout that terrorizes the whole continent, that was Matthe C. Perry's entire ambition in the 1800s. Japanese soldiers didn't wear kimonos when they "opened up Korea to the West" in your grand American tradition of comfort women abuse.

@@sboinkthelegday3892 bruh wtf does this have to do with the original comment. Yes I get it, America has no culture, sure. But Western is a genre whether America has culture or not. Is it a genre based on myths and romanticizing, yes, but people still enjoy it. It's a fictional setting, everyone knows that. I don't go "I love Westerns because it's when America committed genocide and mugged the Native Americans." I see a god damn root'in toot'in cowboy and I wanna see him go pew pew. The original author of this comment is not even directly saying they think Westerns are cool, they think it's a cool coincidence that they both happen to be Westerns. You are out here creating strawmen to fight that don't exist with people that don't deserve it. You are going to create more enemies to your side then will join you. I urge you to at least cool down your language a little bit. Don't be so sarcastic with your writing, and write to inform, not to blame those that have no part in the problem. There are ways to do what you are doing in a meaningful and impactful way that will change people's perspectives, but this isn't going to work. Understand the right people, place, time, and tone to use. There are plenty of actual channels spreading misinformation on this topic that should get push back, but this jovial comment isn't one of those. Use your information for spreading understanding, not hate. This is the trap many Leftist fall into that lead to us getting such bad reputation. Also literally none of this makes sense or is legible.

I remember reading Jojo way back before the anime adaptation and being annoyed by storyline inconsistencies. We'd argue about them endlessly on the forums about what Araki intended or if he was interfered with or whatever. Anyway years later I read his book, and there's this bit where he basically explains that he doesn't like to edit his own work once it's out there, he views it like a marble fresco or sculture, once it's done it's done and the mistakes are part of it as a piece of art, he'll simply learn and evolve. So now I don't think about inconsistencies or issues. They're just part of Araki's story, that's just who he is as a creator.
@mredbadger
@mredbadger 20 күн бұрын
I really like that too. It’s hard to describe, but seeing Araki change his mind on how certain powers work or the fates of certain characters makes the story more endearing to me. Like how he was initially setting up Fugo to be one of the final enemies of part 5, then decided his characters had been through enough and that would be too sad Not every story needs to be meticulously planned out in advance. JoJo establishes the premise and the goal at the start, then the individual parts of the journey feel like whatever Araki felt like writing that day

it’s like having a story in a story. Ill try to _breakdown_ what I meant: His story is not made with an absolute rule like many traditional stories or fables, it works more like a ttrpg campaign, depending on the writer, things will change. Characters do not have predetermined plots, and even if they do they are subject to change.
@user-rj3pg5ly8q
@user-rj3pg5ly8q 19 күн бұрын
@@tl1326it's kinda funny how some of his plots are literally say that their fate is predetermined, but the author is really not planning out everything ahead. Quite contradictive but I view the world around us just like that, full of truths and lies merging into chaos which eventually gives birth to a certain order.

Yeah it’s bizarre, but usually those bizarre scenes or whatever are explained. For instance, Kakyoin’s Cherry licking thing is merely just a thing that he does, and Film Theory did a whole video on the whole Bruno licking Giorno thing. It’s weird, but it isn’t mind boggling.

This video is very interesting, and it tells a compelling narrative, and I think it's rather poorly titled. Like, the subject of the video is Araki's obsession with fine art and how it has informed his journey as an artist - it does not examine in any detail the obsession of the fine art world with his works. I came in expecting an examination of something like, say, the ways that JoJo's Bizarre Adventure has been embraced by fashion brands and been influential to young fine artists, but it's basically entirely the other way around. Again, the video is still good, it's just that I think the title promises a subject that the video itself simply does not deliver on.

That part about how he considers reading manga similar to viewing paintings in a museum and that he doesen't wish to watch his drawings in movement really made me feel like he understands the medium a lot. Like you and Araki said, I really feel like he and his works are pretty misunderstood, with everyone seeing JoJo as this "big weird nonsense meme anime" when it's definetely much more. I cried watching this esp during his critical and powerful moments. I only watched the first episode of Jojo's but I love the mangaka's life journey. This is such a blessing for me.

Araki calls the theme of Jojo “the anthem to humanity.” I think his genuine belief in the beauty of humanity in its many forms shines through in Jojo. This gives Jojo its portrayal of humanity in their bizarreness and diversity while maintaining its universal appeal.

Jojo is one of my favorite manga of all time. literally from the jump there were so many of these weird off beat moments that just made it pop out to me. It's clear that Araki is unapologetically himself. Even if there's a moment that genuinely creeps me out or a joke that doesn't land there's still this charm to it. Also, I love his approach to how colors, designs, and story beats play out. He keeps what works, leaves what doesn't, and keeps moving forward. I genuinely hope I'm still pushing and reinventing myself artistically when I'm over 60 years old.

9:02 There’s nothing weird about Araki’s inclusion of blood types when designing his characters in his background sheet since blood type personality traits was a very popularly held belief in Japan. While it is not as prevalent now but Japan has a huge belief in horoscopes and blood type personality traits for Araki’s generation that many of the older manga works combined both as a short hand to define the basic personality of their characters and will often list them in character biographies.

A video I would LOVE to see is one on kentaro miura, berserk has some of my favorite panels and layouts and I think you're ability to tell stories is so engaging and unique! Of course, I will watch anything you release because your videos are so wonderfully made

That was inspiring. Not only because I feel like I can relate to his process and his difficulties, but because he sought to be understood and found people who did understand him that went beyond just pumping out manga and hitting his deadlines and getting results on a survey. It makes me hope that I can still find that kind of thing as well. Something like that.

Bizarre is such a fitting word to define this manga. Everything is both aesthetic, and, well, bizarre. Is this a JoJo reference is only a meme that came and went. Not different than "But can he beat Goku?" or "Nah, I'd win." But no matter how many manga I read or anime I watch, JoJo has a unique place for me, and I daresay for us.
