I dont blame you for wanting another bike. The KLR is just the bike for me. Its as fast as i want to go. I love touring the desert roads here in Arizona with it. I also commute with the KLR everday and I don't think I'll ever sell it. I'm happy with my forever bike.

Oooooh, you have suffered from the curse of the KLR! Been riding for 50yrs, every time I sold a KLR I regretted it. And eventually got another one. 6 to be exact. Owned them all! I just bought a 2023 I and I hope to keep this one for a long time. I think it is one of the best bikes to keep in the garage as a spare and to scratch the itch you will be getting in a couple of yrs. I don't expect too much of the KLR any more. I am a dirt bike rider, and I have the bikes to have plenty of fun on in the dirt. I just love getting on the KLR every now and then and enjoying it's simplicity. I have had some very fond memories on the KLR. I too will be going back to my good old Super Tenere for the long hwy rides. I sold it about six months ago and that was a big mistake. Thanks for all the info on the KLR, and I hope you get a bike that will help you forget about the KLR. Because you will for a while. 😁

I am very pleased with my Gen 3. Most of my riding is on rural country roads and forest service roads. All easy access from my driveway. Most of my time is driving between 30-45 mph. It simply cruises nicely and is a blast. I sometimes hit the state highway for 45 minutes to an hour to access more forest service roads, then I ride about 65 mph. That is the max for me and this particular bike. I will never sell it even if I get another.

I started following your channel about two years ago when we both got our KLR Gen 3's. I bought the Adventure model and on the first day broke off the hard cases on the rear on single track riding and crashes. I did the same upgrades you did and I have always appreciated your tutorials on "how to" when it came to the upgrades. I added a Corbin heated seat and bought the fork brace, but haven't added the fork brace yet. I have to agree with your analysis of the bike and it's a bike I'd have a difficult time parting with too. I bought a smaller trail bike for more single track action and then have a larger street bike for cruising. I rode the Idaho BDR this summer and the KLR did a great job. The only bikes with issues on that 20 day trek were BMW's and KTM's. I wish the bike had an additional 10-15 horses, but it is what it is!!! I'm keeping mine for now because it's a good bike to have in the crib, especially for someone that visits that needs a bike to ride. Thank you for all of your videos concerning the KLR Gen 3. This has been fun and you have inspired me to be more of a motorcycle mechanic.

Sad to see your Klr go but it’s understandable. I got my 23 in July after a dismal experience on my pan America. Needless to say the reason I bought my Klr is because of its no-frills basic and reliable.its not a powerhouse but I like being forced to go at a slower pace. At 58 years old I need to slow it down.

I understand where you are going and what you are doing. I own a KLR650 because of your videos and I can say I agree with you totally. I have had it now 5 months and am over 5300 miles as of today with almost 3000 of those miles being off road. Thanks for what you do and I will continue to watch your videos just because you are a down to earth person!

Ben, you have built a great following and helping everyone be in the KLR club. Like many of the comments, I too looked to your channel before my purchase of my 23 Adventure. I haven’t done any doohickey or thermobob mods and it worked fine. I also appreciate how you share this with your father. Thanks for all of your hard work and KLR content. Channels have to grow and I agree a new bike is a good way to freshen up the channel. Maybe a Honda Transalp, Suzuki 800 DE or a CF Moto IBEX 800T. Either way I will still be watching. Thanks.

After having a 2004 KLR 650 for 20 years I bought a brand new 2022 KLR 650 and am loving the beast for touring now that I've retired. The bulky front fairing took a little getting use to and now 2 years and 20,000 klm's latter I love the bike and being a little bigger and 6' 1'' it suits me. At the moment I'm welding up a 2 wheel trailer to tow behind hen bike to take my camping and fishing gear out bush outback Australia..

The question that I'm really dying to know is, what adventure bikes have you ridden that are more comfortable than the Gen 3 KlR. I'm somewhat new to riding. I went to 3 different dealerships and was somewhat set on a street bike. I sat on every bike they had that was under $15,000 including the Suzuki 800 de. Nothing else was nearly as comfortable for me as that 2023 KLR, which I did buy and am happy with. That 800 DE had an ok comfort level for me.

Havent really off roaded my 23 adventure. It is my daily bike which works great for me and will likely remain my daily for years to come.Thanks for sharing all that you have on this bike.

Its not for everyone. But I had a budget of about 19k. I rode everything I could. Rode the 2023 KLR S variant. Handed them my money and Ive been completely happy with it. The only thing Id change is a 6th gear. Thats it. I weigh 277 lbs and I have no issues on or off with the power. I can and do 200 miles or more at 70mph with no issues etc.

I'm from New Zealand and looking to get my first bike. Just discovered your channel. We are limited to 650cc until we get our full license which takes 2 years. I've narrowed my choices down to the CRF300 Rally, the Himalayan 450 and this KLR. I've watched 100s of hours of reviews on pretty much every 650 bike and below and this is by far the best honest review I watched so far. Thanks for making this man, it was exactly what I needed to hear.

Oh Ben. You and your videos were a huge factor in me purchasing my ‘23 adventure. Bought many mods that you had in your videos. I’ll honestly never ride it down gnarly single or 2 tracks. Some “easy” state land and dirt roads with paved but that’s what I want at this point. Eventually want something like the tiger or maybe cfmoto ibex for the money. Maybe Kawasaki will eventually put the versys engine in a whole new klr. Thank you again for all your videos on the klr. (Just ordered the lexx slip on - Rocky Mountain got them back in stock!)

I found you earlier this summer after buying a 23 KLR. It stinks to see it go, but the move is totally understandable. Can't wait to see what's in store for you!

It's been a good channel. One major riding style that should be considered is just dirt roads / forest service roads. I had no interest in doing single track on mine, but it was fantastic for the Cascade Mt trails and while I never got it to Moab, there are hundreds of miles of fantastic views that this bike would be perfect for out there. Think of it as a mildly lifted 2-wheel Jeep, and then think of all the great places they can go. Any of the BDR routes too. The KLR can do all those trials easily - and you can ride it from WA to Utah and back on the Interstates. 50/50 tires instead of the nasty tires you have, so even better on pavement. I wish someone could prove or disprove the doohickie theory. The fear is rampant out there, but surely if it was a problem Kawaski would have made a more significant change in the Gen 3? The thermo-bob fix is an easy fix, no more than an hour and you don't have to tear the bike apart to do it. As for your next bike, seems like you have to pick either more aggressive, more difficult single track, OR, go the much more common route, which is the adventure bike on easy dirt roads in between long stints on the Interstates, as I outlined above.

Owned a gen 1 years back, rode the wheels off it. Off-road, hiway, camping etc. Never let me down, not once. Bought a brand new 2024. I'm enjoying setting it up for my riding style. Sure, I've owned a ton of other bikes, but the do-it-all KLR thumper resignates with me the most, especially due to where i live with the roads in B.C.

When I first got a Gen2 KLR, I rode it like a dirt bike, and dual sported with a bunch of DRZ and KTM guys. I was slower, but aside from gnarly single track and really agressive rutted hill climbs, I had no issues. Picking it up offroad was the hardest part. Street riding was pleasant, highway touring was buzzy and tiring. I did hit 95+ several times. I miss it. You've probably talked me back into being a KLR guy again. 😂

Id argue the thermobob mod is more important than the doohickey mod especially during t 1st 3K-4K just so its less likely to warp the piston & burn oil & get the motor to seal & break in properly.

Sold my 22 gen 3 and had a hard time getting much for it and it was in great shape, almost new. But, I did really enjoy it and no it's not the best bike if you are looking for a full time high speed highway bike or a hardcore dirtbike(stock), but man it was so fun on the back roads and exploring offroad or just chilling around town. Never any oil burning issues and the doo hickey drama is so over blown. Just a great all around enjoyable bike, and one that I will most likely buy again in the near future.

Been subbed for a long time, went honda then harley and now 23 klr650s. Keep making content. TW's are awesome, 250cc are fun but lately that 100hp brap is getting my attention. At least on YT. Still keeping the klr.

It a great bike to just buy and ride. Find out what you enjoy, off road, highway, or gravel road. Don’t get on forums or Facebook groups at first. Just put 10k miles on it then decide. I use my for commuting, travel , and off road. There are way better bikes. The KLR works fine. That’s it. It’s just fine. Wish you where able to keep it and just get another one but I understand. I’ll stick around because I like your content.

I think you should try a XR650L or DR650 next. Start with a stock bike and do all the mods etc. That would make great content and would compare well to the KLR and T7 (since you have ownered both of those recently).

My 300 Rally cruises down the Hwy at 65mph with no problem. It tops out at 81mph, so if I have to get out of my own way, I can. I’m not knocking on the KLR at all! I love all dual sports! I’m not a fan boy of any particular brand, nor do I have a need for speed anymore. I got that out my system when I was in my 20’s... If it’s a motorcycle with off road capabilities, it’s a gem to me... With that said, weight is a big factor for me., The lighter the bike, the more fun I seem to have. So I just can’t see how the KLR could possibly bring me more joy than my little 300. Yes, I had to put a ton of mods into my 300 Rally for the obvious reasons everyone knows about, but I knew that going into it. It’s just weird that the KLR is so much more bike than my little 300, but it’s not any better on the Hwy.... And in my opinion, the 300 is better off road too, because it’s lighter. I’m sure I could have fun on a KLR, but I don’t think I’ll ever buy one. And even though my passion for riding off road exponentially outweighs my desire to ride on road, I’m spoiled now with the wind protection bikes like these offer. So I know that is at least one thing that I would like about the KLR....

I know the topic has been covered to death, but if they just added a 2nd cylinder, 6th gear, tac, and gear indicator, to me, it would be perfect. Basically a Transalp but more aggressive looking and simple. I can't imagine it would be that expensive and it would be so popular. Even if it was a new variant and keep the current bike still... call the new one KLR650T

I currently ride a Himalayan. I love the bike but it needs another 10 mph or so. Just enough to be able to do 70 to 75 on the highways and not be pegged. That’s why I’m looking at the KLR. It has the old school thumper engine I like. Has a comfortable seating position and has that extra ( not much ) mph I need.

You have hit on why I am really thinking about a Honda Transalp for my next bike. With the right mods, the KLR can handle long highway miles (which I have to do to go camping).

I sold mine mostly because of the lack of power. Had every mod known to man. Jetted, pipe etc. still lacking. It was fun though. The new V-strom looks good. My local dealer has one. Pretty big but around twice the power.

I have enjoyed your KLR Gen 3 journey in regard to its basic form and mods performed. I also own and own a Gen 3 and find it addictive in its character and the upgrades on offer. I have heavily modified my with Toutech rear shock and Race Tek front fork kit and really transforms its off-road capabilities. Currently attending to the fueling via Commander and a Dyno tune. I don't think there are many Adventure Bikes perfect out of the box and it is the joy of the tweaks and mods to tailor the bike to suit my individual needs. But you never know you may be back for another KLR!🤔

It killed me to sell my T7, still hurts, but I bought a 2023 KTM 390 Adventure SW and I'm having a blast on the new bike.

Great summary of the Gen 3! I started following your channel back in June of 2022 when I bought my new Gen 3. My last dual sport was a `96 Suzuki DR650 that was great in the woods, but a few miles on it on the highway was torture. Unfortunately, I went from a Road King immediately to the KLR and my overweight and out-of-shape 50yr old body was not prepared. I hated the KLR at first and tried to sell it without losing too much money, but no takers. So I just kept riding it and getting used to it. It's a great bike and I have most of the same mods you do. But it still will always be a "jack of all trades, and master of none" bike. I bought an ATV to take on the trails, and will sell the KLR next spring and buy another cruiser for the street.

Back when the KLR first came out one of the reviews said it was the cabin cruiser of Dual Sport Motorcycles they also called it the mobile filling station to help your friends that have smaller tanks to get through the day.

There are so many 3rd gen KLR's on Marketplace. The problem is people buy them and think they can do hardcore ADV riding. Then find out how under powered and heavy it is. If you buy it to commute, ride fire roads, dirt roads, gravel roads, etc., you will be very happy. If you think you're going to keep up with other modern mid-sized ADV bikes like the 800DE or T7, you will be very disappointed. If you think you can keep up with KTM 890's etc., you will be embarrassed. The KLR has moved away from true dual sport like the DR650 and tried to compete with ADV bikes. To be honest, I think they did a great job except weight. In my area you can get the base model OTD for under $5k...how can you not respect that.

Love your honesty.. I've heard it said the klr650 is good at everything and great at nothing.. I really wish kawasaki would put the versys 650 with 6 speed.. it sell like the t7

65 mph and low expectations. Thats the key to happy KLR ownership. Have 19,000 miles on my '22. Very happy with it. Have 2 other bikes that are much better on the hwy

Bought a 22 and worked it over with some sweet mods use it on and off road with no issues. Love it so much bought another for the wife and I’ve been riding for 45 years. It is a great bike more mods available than most others and most are overpriced

I remember seeing my first KLR in 1987. Standing at the dealership thinking, "Damn that's a big dirtbike. Who would take that thing off road?" I ended up owning two! An '87 and an "03! Yes, they saw way more offroad than they should have. I now own a KTM 690 and am much happier.😊

Well done. Understood, I will continue to follow and see if you can find something better than my 2023, KLR base in green. Important fact. I like to take my lady along. It is a great 2- up rig. And of course I need to consider another ride for the days I have to ride alone.

I never rode any type of motorcycles in my life time. Me Being 6"5, 250lbs. It is a really great beginner bike! Bought my 2023 klr Adventure ABS. Its doesnt feel like it has a lot of power, and i do agree, it is a great beginner bike for tall people. Now im looking into getting into the BMW GS line. Dont get me wrong this bike has done everything of what i expected. Absolutely love my KLR. It does what i need. Mostly on road and only off road is just gravel roads. You hit all the pros and cons of this bike!

In the same class is the DR650 just add a 20 liter gas tank, I had the first gen KLR and loved it and my son is still riding it, Have had two DR 650 first one did not have the larger tank and was a pain looking for gas all the time, 20 liter gas tank solved that problem. The DR can ride 2 up but the seat is not made for it. I also go with Dunlop Trail Max Mission tires witch art great on the road, and good off road as long as you stay out of the deep mud Which I do not rid in, just do not like mud. I now have a Honda CB500 X and it is now near the bike the DR650 or the KLR650 is when it comes to gnarly dirt and gravel roads. I have ridden bough the KLR and the DR down some pretty twisty roads and find them a lot of fun. One great thing about these bikes is the long travel suspension and the 21" front wheel, great for old bones. Also had the KTM 390 Adventure and that was another great bike. At 75 in another month thinking of the KLR650S or may be looking at the New Royal Enfield, they are saying will be out on the 7th of this month, Main things I want is a bike that can carry a good load and do 500 Km per tank of gas, and long suspension travel. As for the KLR not getting one for just road travel you are wrong, for what most people do it is more than enough, Used mine for a commuter bike going 102 km on the highway to work and would quite often take the back roads home witch would be from 120 to 200km loved the fact I never had to worry about finding gas stations. A great bike for commuting or nice long weekend rides. What other bike can you get that will do 500 Km on a tank of gas, do smooth or rough roads, loves the twisty roads, any way near that price range.

If you need the extra range of motion over stock in the counter-balancer drive chain slack adjusting mechanism, I'd say it's safe to say you need a new counter-balancer chain. The Thermo-bob on the other hand makes good sense to me. Great video!

I like my 2001 Gen One still running strong..

I owned a gen 1 years ago and had a lot of fun riding it. I was and still am more of a sport touring guy. Fast forward to today, after about 10 yrs away from riding, I thought I might get another KLR. I test rode a nice gen 2 and 3xpected to love it, but I didn’t. It was so much slower than I remembered and revving it did little more than produce vibration and frustration. If I lived in Vermont or New Hampshire I might be able to make it work, but given the amount of pavement I’d need to ride to get to dirt roads, I decided to take a pass on the bike. Dude selling it told me he felt the same way. We had a nice laugh about it in his driveway as I was driving away. I’m now looking for a 650 Vstrom. The Suzuki’s 68 hp is nearly double what the KLR makes and doesn’t vibrate so obnoxiously. Unfortunately, finding a test ride on a Vstrom has proven difficult, but I think I’m going to buy (a used) one anyway. Fingers crossed. Would love to see this presenter go through a ‘wee storm’.

Great videos from your channel, you are one of the people I watch before getting my gen 3 and I'll so glad that I got it, as for me I'm in the process of either keeping my KLR and buying a dual sport like a CRF450L/RL or selling it for a more capable bike like a suzuki v-strom 800de

You're not wrong. Traded my G3 KLR in on the VStrom 800DE. Waaay better on the road, about as good offroad. Weight holds the 800DE back a tad, or I would say AS GOOD. KLR is ok at everything. Really tries to split the difference. Too slow on pavement, too soft and heavy offroad. But it CAN do it all, and I loved it. Always will. Now I want a little dual sport. 200-300cc or so. Thinking a KLX230 (like air cooled bikes offroad). I will stick around no matter what you're ridding Ben! Channel is great.

I’m planning on buying one despite all the shortcomings. Basically this bike will do exactly what I need it to do. Eat up miles (kilometers) of dirt roads and trails. I have my well set up DRZ400E for proper dirt work closer to home.

KLR650: The Goldwing of Enduros; the okayist motorcycle. I've had mine for almost a year. It's definitely not a beginner motorcycle for anyone who isn't a giant/giantess. I hate it when reviewers say it's fine with the highway: 1987 was over 30 years ago, and the national speedlimit went away almost 30 years ago. But it's one of a few motorcycles that someone at 6'7" can comfortably ride and not hate life. Other than the necessary engine mods, I highly recommend getting raising links for the rear. It makes off road so much nicer. Loved your mod series, and will definitely wander back occasionally to see what troubles you are getting into.

I wish a motorcycle corporation would invite you and others with long riding experiences actually sit down one on one to explain what should be included in an adventure motorcycle. Not just emails, but actual in person so they can create the near perfect motorcycle.

I haven't ridden since I had a fall and separated my shoulder, damaged my rotor cuff, broke my left middle finger, sprained my right wrist and left knee. Just starting to be able to raise my arm over my head. Next year...

I still love my 2nd gen its a great bike for doing what i do with it and after all my tinkering i can honestly say its been bulletproofed when properly equipped and upgraded these machines are plenty capable for about 90% of everything you can throw at them they do lack in the power department and i wish i could tune another 20hp or so into the engine but for what i got in it im happy with my roi and the smiles per gallon its reliably provided over the years its not for everybody and theres lots of new shiny competitors that honestly are probably better bikes but thats just what happens as time and technology progresses excited to see what you replace the pig with to grow your channel maybe a klx or a svartpilin with knobbies or are you going bigger with a proper adventure bike simply too many to pick from we really are spoiled for choices somethimg tells me you wontt stay away from the klr forever especially when you're browsing marketplace and find a clean 2nd gen for next to nothing

I was thinking about the KLR as a first bike. I'm about to do the MSF this spring, and I'm drawn towards ADV, but want to learn on a used, less powerful, and inexpensive bike first. I want to be able to drop it without feeling bad about it. I am also a tall guy, at 6'4", around 200 pounds, 34 years old. I want to learn on it and then sell it to get something nicer, maybe an 850GS or maybe even a 1250GS. I have too much in my life to risk riding like an idiot, and I wouldn't be reckless even with a more powerful bike. I don't want it to pump adrenaline. I also don't plan on doing crazy off-roading. I just want to use this as a machine to get to beautiful places away from the big cities, hopefully relatively comfortably. So moto camping with a lot of asphalt plus gravel and fire roads. Once I get more experience, I'd go in multi-week long rides to more remote places. I do think about weight. From what I've gathered, there is a clear tradeoff between lower weight and highway comfort, and I can't avoid riding at least an hour to get away from the city. My other options are the Versys 650 or V-Strom 650. I looked at smaller bikes, but the only ones that seem tall enough for a guy like me seem to be dual sports, which I wouldn't want to take on a highway, or maybe the 310GS. My last option is to go directly for the 850GS, but I'm afraid to spend too much money before I really know I will like ADV riding. I'm pretty sure I will, but I'm not rich haha. I'm also not a wrench turner, so I'd like to avoid carbed bikes. What would you guys recommend? Is the KLR the right choice for a tall guy starting out?

IMHO At approx. 450 lbs. the KLR is too heavy for serious off road riding, I have a 2015 KLR that I primarily ride on the street.Have over 40,000 miles on my bike, no oil consumption problems, and the balance chain ("doohickey") has been fine with recommended adjustments having been performed, I might add that I have always added about 1 OZ. of Marvel Mystery Oil to every 2.5 gallons of fuel which may be why it doesn't have an oil consumption problem, and I don't thrash the bike but have taken it on a couple of 75 mile hi-way rides at 75-85 MPH the entire way non stop.

The number one thing I hate about my klr, the power or lack there of.

Appreciate the informative video! I'm looking for a bike that can replace my 4wd (for camping) and learn to ride on, thought this would be the bike for me but back to the drawing board. The price of a klr is pretty attractive as everything else seems to be close to double. I'm patiently waiting for the himalayan 450 to come out next month as that should be good enough for my needs and i don't want to spend too much on my first bike Thanks again for giving potential buyers of the klr a warning

IN your older videos you put on the uni air filter and the lex pipe and I am curious if you have pulled the spark plug and checked I the bike is running lean and have you had any long term affects from those mods cause I just got my own and am interested in doing them as well

From a content creator point of view... This isn't to be mean, just a statement which should be obvious. You aren't Itchy Boots. People watch Itchy because of where she rides and what she does, not as much because of what she rides. (Basanti and Alaska are cool, and every time she casts aside a bike it makes me sad.) She takes off and rides through continents which take years to complete, and then she speaks one of her dozen or so languages, flips her long blonde hair and says "Good Morning Internet!"..... You're not going to be able to do that... Who can compete with that? What you do have is a motorcycle that is more about what you do with it than where you go with it. Name a bike that can be more modified than a KLR? (Ok, maybe a HD, but not a Pan Am.) KLR's generate content just because they need to be mod'ed, must be mod'ed, to do anything in particular. I can understand "I'm tired of having to mod my bike", but isn't that also called content? It's revenue generation, channel content, money... Call it what you want, but you don't have to think about "what am I going to do for content", when you're thinking "The tires on the KLR suck." You have a KLR channel right now, not an Itchy Boots channel. I wouldn't be trying to sell the KLR, I'd be doubling down. The rest of the KZfaq motorcycle landscape is scorched earth, it'd take a lot to put yourself up above it with just "watch me ride my motorcycle". As a fellow Wisconsinite, the mid-west isn't all that picturesque. I'd double down. KLR Iron Butt. KLR on a Ferry. KLR in a garden. KLR with an air horn. KLR with machine guns. KLR at Sturgis. KLR wheelie machine mod. KLR on the AlCan (That could be done in a few weeks). KLR in a salad bowl. Stop thinking the KLR should twist your knickers, start thinking of the KLR as the hook for your channel. Or, buy a HD Road King and take it adventure bike riding, I bet people would watch that.

At 53, I got a Himalayan 2 years ago, and probably don't have another bike in my future. I do wish I'd squeezed my wallet a little more and gotten out the cash for a KLR.

I rode my gen 2 about 25000 miles before I had the same issue with some one pulling out of a parking lot right into me. It did a lot more damage though even with my side panniers. I didn't have any issues with the doohickey. I did a lot of research and it seemed that after 2012 they seemed to not have much issues out of them as they did before. Still something to watch though.

A road bike around 400 lbs is about ideal. The gen 1 is the lightest of the lot. However the later gen 2 (2014 1/2 to 2018) is one inch lower. If you only put 4 gallons of gas instead of 6.2, your bike weighs about the same as a gen 1. Now buy some 2" lowering links. (stiffer rear spring not needed) So now your klr is 3" lower. Wow. That top heavy feeling is now gone. Lets be honest. A klr is for paved roads and dirt roads. My 2016 is now the best all around bike I have ever owned. And I have been riding for over 60 years.

T7 for you, I think. Don’t just go by the specs, or even the reviews. Get out and try em all. I’m a 90/10 rider. Just got the Transalp and am super stoked with it. Waiting for my bash plate/crash bars to get here in Oregon.

i've been commuting on a gen 3 adventure for 10 months and just passed 5k miles. my commute is mostly 50ish mph roads with a short 3 mile 70-75mph interstate run. i have a blast on it but would love to add a more interstate worthy bike to my garage for longer rides. i'm 6'3" with long legs (36" inseam) so i'm limited on bikes that i feel comfortable on. i put the big tusk pegs with the lowering bracket and i feel good sitting and standing. my next bike will be much more expensive so i'm planning on keeping my klr for most of my commuting and in case armageddon ever happens...

I gir rid of my gen 3 and got a vstrom 800de a couplemonths ago. Best thingni ever did. Its like a Cadillac compared to the pig. Plus its complety adjust comp and rebound front and rear. It can go anywhere in its super compfy.

I've gone into the rabbit hole the past few weeks now for this bike. I really like it's military look especially with the green variant. Is there anything close in price and capabilities and look of this bike that is better to get instead? I've also looked into Suzuki DR 650 but it is no longer manufactured ...

Love my klr gen 3. I use it as a daily commuter, Will agree that it's not the best road bike but its adequate wich is great because getting off road where I live is a long slab haul For my needs a 6th gear and cruise control would make it perfect.

Good luck with your future endeavor's. I really wanted to get a KLR but living on long island there are no places to ride. All and I mean ALL off rode riding is illegal. I was still going to buy it but I have to travel at least an hour and a half to two hour to find a place I can ride off rode and if I'm going to spend that much time on the paved road I want something that will be fun on the streets.

Had a ‘22 for ~5K miles on everything from highways to dirt roads to single track, found it subpar at everything and felt that trying to turn it into a dirt bike-which I did with Shinkos, armor, etc.-was a waste of money. If the KLR is best off road like you’re saying, why not just ride something that’s genuinely good off road? Since selling, I’ve picked up a ‘14 WRR. It’s 160# lighter, light years better off road, more fun around town and no worse than the KLR up to 65mph. And, with a 300# wet WRR I can get myself out of trouble in the woods, I’ve wheelied that thing out of mud holes and ruts that for my KLR needed a buddy or a comealong to dig out.

Gen 3 KLR is my first bike. After owning it for 2 years, I'm ready to move on to something else. I don't want to get rid of my KLR, and I probably won't. Its easy to hop on and get around when I don't want to drive. That being said, I'm probably not gonna take a 9 hour road trip up to Banff, But I'll go jump it in the field by my house.

I've been watching a lot of KLR content over the last few months as I want a mid-size adventure bike as my first "proper" bike after learning on a 250. Am now debating between the KLR and the Transalp. The KLR seems great for what it is, but dropping a bit more money and getting the Honda is becoming increasingly tempting.

I think you need to change the title of this video to "...not the right bike for me..." since you can't say what is or isn't right for "me"

Hello, I’m 21, and I’m going to buy a bike this summer, I live in Wisconsin and sometimes Chicago for work. I want to be able to go anywhere a budget suv overland could go. I grew up riding on a bicycle everywhere. I got involved in some road cycling races, which involved a lot of road time in traffic, and then I got into mountain biking and some more technical terrain, and then I built a 50cc electric bike with a motor and a series of Tesla battery cells I mounted on an old 90s bike. So I’m pretty comfortable riding for long distances with minimal comfort. I’m worried about getting too much bike right away. What do you guys who have been riding for a while think about a starting bike for me?

All the reasons in this video are why I own a gen 1 KLR. it's definitely not as comfortable on the road, but to me it is so much more of a dual sport even though it's still on the heavy side
