Why the GLE 53 Gives me Hope for AMG! 2020 Full Review

A Loud New AMG?! Not a V8?! There’s hope for us yet!! Welcome back to RBR and once again this is the new GLE 53 4matic+, the in-line 6 turbo AMG with Hybrid EQ boost!
Today it’s finally time for the full #MercedesAMG #GLE 53 review on Road here in Austria! We will finally explore the dynamics, sound and overall experience of driving the 53. The GLE Coupé looks like a full 63 version, with the new more aggressive design language if the 53 cars sharing cues with the flagships.
We have 435BHP 520nm on tap, with a EQ hybrid boost of a further 22BHP and 250nm: allowing for a 0-60 of 5.2 seconds. We also have a fully variable power in the AMG 4matic+ all wheel drive system.
The car also has the new AMG ACTIVE RIDE CONTROL air suspension, based on AMG Ride control+, allowing for body control in 1000’svof a millisecond!! It’s now part of the GLE 53’s “dynamic plus pack” also giving larger red callipers like the 63 cars, dinamica alcantara steering wheel and the AMG control switches.

Not sure how I missed this Raz when released? I usually watch all your videos. I'm watching it now and enjoying it! The straight 6 with 48v hybrid is a great combination, this is what I hoped the new AMG 63S's would be, not the 4 cylinder hybrid.

I bought the 2019 BMW X6 M. It is faster than just about any AMG across the board. Oddly enough my 2018 AMG GLC 43 blows away the interior of the X6 M and all around better driving experience. Nothing compares to the sound and steering of an AMG 63s and I think MB has hit the nail on the head finally with the AMG 53. I will never buy another M car over an AMG.

Not a fan of those large fake vents on the front, but I guess it’s to be expected on a mid range AMG. The full fat 63 monster looks so much better and presumably actually needs to extra air intakes.

Merc needs to up their game. In canada, the GLE 53 is priced with the BMW X5 M50i, and the merc is even slightly more expensive when optioned. Plus, BMW comes with 4 year free service while people have to buy a package for the merc. The M50i comes with a 4.4 biturbo V8 and has 530 hp and 550 Ib of torque, while mercedes has a inline6 with eqboost that produces 429 hp and 384 Ib of torque. I was a 43 owner but it is hard to justify the 53 this generation.

@@DanielSadjadian I saw this one vid nearby this castle it was the first one probably, next one was from delivery, but I didn't notice full drive review of it. Just a short ones. I hope we will see something like drive review of e63s or s63 or g63 (Darth Vader's one :p). I mean full drive review with pros and cons. You know what I mean. This video I'm talking about was promised to us and I took it serious! :D I Rly can't wait for it! I love this car it's my biggest love if talking about cars! I can't wait even more for the spring! Then I have promised test drive from one dealer in my country. I'm so excited and I wish for all of you guys the same opportunity, to drive your dream car if you're crazy about it like me! :D Everything the best for all of you! I'm still waiting for this review! Why have they given the 43 and 63 the same grill, I think the 63 should be the only model with the panamericana , differentiate the real AMGs from the 43.

John Paul the 35 and 43 models are not built under the one man, one engine principle which truly makes an AMG motor. They are mass produced motors that are AMG enhanced.

Chad Phillipps I traded my C63s for the GLC43 AMG SUV because of practicality and quicker off the line and performance in all season. I don’t care about the one man one engine. My GLC43 with AMG suspension rides better than the C63s. I traded it due to the 4 matic and because I was beaten by a friend who has a C43 from a stop light. 43 is true AMG.

@@topo520 Enjoy your GLC 43, I ma not downplaying the 43,35 models, they are entry level AMGs . The GLC is more practical than the C, I drive a GLC and love it, plus the 4matic makes it safer in wet weather, the 63S is a drivers car.

Informative review with lots of good, useful observations. BTW 5 seconds to 60 mph is plenty for me. Driving dynamics - handling, ride quality, steering, body roll - are very important. Looks like this AMG 53 Coupe has improved these quite a lot seeing their anti-roll tech and what You have mentioned about steering, engine and transmission, handling. I wonder how it compares to Cayenne (not S or GTS, just base Cayenne) armed with PASM and PDCC and Chrono package in terms of driving dynamics. These two are wonderful. Unfortunately BMW finally butchered the rear of X6 and its difficult to spend money on such a hideous thing.

Dunno... BMW raised the bar of the "pre-top" SUVs with their M50i so much that 53 does not look that appetising, today. Porsche are coming up with their v8 GTS as well. Should one go for an AMG GLE, it should be the full on 63, I think. 53 is perfectly fine in saloon cars, a 3 liter suits them well. So me personally I am waiting for 63 and GTS tests.

Do you know why Mercedes has made the Star emblem on the panorama grille on GLC AMG models and the GLS Amg Models into 2 chrome circles instead of the normal 1 chrome circle that comes on the other Amg model panorama grilles? It makes the grille even bulkier and takes away from the sleekness of the panorama grille. I wish it was identical to the GLC 63 Panorama Grille.

I prefer the bigger double mercedes star.This is unique to GLE AMG.The little GLC has 1 ring and 1 line of LED hedlights.The GLE has double ring and double lines of LED.That's why.Now you know;)

would you choose this over an X6 M50i? I think i would go with the X6 considering the fact that you get more cylinders and hp for kind of the same price raneg. But for GLE 63s and X6M Comp i would choose the GLE

When you compare this to bmw’s M50i I think price wise and what you get the bmw has more to offer. Especially with a de-tuned version of the M5 engine.

It is. U just stay in comfort and drove normally. It will give a low tune but nothing disruptive. On some of them. U can close the exhaust butter fly valve.
