"Sora" is being touted as yet another giant leap in artificial intelligence. The latest tool released by OpenAI, the company behind the groundbreaking chatbot ChatGPT, can create realistic-looking videos based on a simple text prompt. But there are concerns over what "Sora" could unleash, and what effect it will have on jobs. DW spoke to Daniel Araya, an AI expert from the Centre for International Governance Innovation.

It is not enough to think about a world where not everyone is working at full capacity. We need to think about a world where almost everyone is entirely unemployed. Where people work in very few jobs, mostly because they genuinely enjoy it. There may be some service program where people work in jobs AI simply can not do for a term - kind of like mandatory military service now ... and then most people never work again. Solving that much more extreme problem will naturally solve most, if not all, the intermediate state problems the guest described.

Those who benefit from being able to leverage AI to their advantage will likely not be too concerned about those whose jobs are lost and who are disenfranchised by the shift. AI will replace hundreds of thousands, or millions, of jobs in the near future, especially customer service, legal forms, script writing--type of jobs where 1 computer with AI can replace thousands of workers. You'd have to think that ultimately there will be no task it can't do better than a human, so no jobs will be done by humans out of necessity. Will it mean humans no longer depend on the work they do in order to live comfortably. It's hard to imagine a society without barter/currency, but maybe that's where this will take us.

As a videographer, I've tried using AI. Honestly it's hard to get it to do exactly what you want. And everytime you ask AI to draw something, it will cost you. For some things, I can draw it much faster. This tool will definately open the floor to people who have a knack communicating with computers, or offset the skills of artists, but it will never replace artists, filmmakers and actors fully.

Agreed, people are very naive with respects to how this technology works and what it can actually achieve. Even at this stage, it's incredibly hard to actually make it do something specific so that it's useful within the design or creative process. I'm sure this will be improved in the future, but people need to realise that this technology or parts of it will be implemented into existing systems. It's quite impossible and naive to think right now that this type of technology can actually do things on its own or something silly like that. Right now it's more like a magician's trick and that's what leaves most people in wonder.

Number two, there is no intelligence behind it, no logic, no collisions, no rigged systems, no physical laws.. It's not a simulation. And it will never be, because it's not a damn Houdini or Maya solver working with physical laws. It's a input footage blender working with probability. So if you don't have specific inputs in the training with specific collisions and movements for what you're asking, you will always get weird intersections, non-logical face expressions or mouth/body movements, non-logical fire movement etc.

I found this video on the impact of OpenAI's groundbreaking text-to-video tool Sora particularly intriguing. Here are some key points and insights I found most interesting: Sora can create realistic looking videos based on a simple text prompt, raising concerns about potential misuse. The video showcases an example where a text prompt for "tour of an art gallery" generates a realistic video, highlighting the capability of this technology. However, the discussion also emphasizes the potential dangers of such technology, as it can be used to create deepfakes that could be disruptive politically, socially, and personally. OpenAI acknowledges the limitations of Sora and is taking steps to mitigate potential risks. The video mentions that Sora is still under development and has limitations, such as struggling with applying the laws of physics and understanding lighting changes. Additionally, OpenAI is aware of the potential dangers and is holding off releasing the program until safeguards are in place. Identifying AI-generated videos is becoming increasingly difficult. The expert in the video, Daniel Aria, acknowledges the challenge of identifying AI-generated content. While there might be ways to identify AI-generated videos currently, he suggests that these methods will likely become ineffective as the technology rapidly improves. The widespread adoption of AI-generated videos will necessitate changes in various sectors, including government and media consumption. The discussion highlights the need for governments to adapt and implement new regulations to address the challenges posed by this technology. Additionally, it emphasizes the importance of media consumers developing a critical awareness of the potential for manipulation through AI-generated content. The impact of AI-generated videos will likely be multifaceted, with both positive and negative consequences. While the video mentions potential disruption to various sectors, it also acknowledges the potential economic benefits and opportunities for innovation. The expert emphasizes the need to consider the potential impact on employment and explore alternative economic models as automation through AI increases.

Yes and no. AI is probabilistic by nature, meaning that you can get close to 100%, but never actually 100%. There is certain techniques how to make image look similar to previous - a hyperparameter called temperature - but it is still not possible to have 100% identical. Maybe it will be somehow overcome in future
@minimal3734
@minimal3734 3 ай бұрын
It depends on the settings. Generative AI models have a parameter called "temperature". In its lowest setting the generation is fully deterministic. With the same prompt it generates always the same output, identical in every pixel. The higher the temperature is set the more randomness is added into the model which results in a certain variety.

Technology is becoming too advanced than what a normal brain can comprehend. It wont be too long before it become too complex to comprehend for a advanced human brain.

Are you 100% that we are living in a real world and not a simulation? What is real or what is not doesn't matter, all that matters is the objective of the simulation. Other systems of governance will come. What does not change is change.

If humans are too slow in regulating Ai, why don't we create an AI that regulates the democratized AI and we just need to control the regulating AI... Isn't this an option?

it looks to me that one major section of AI industry is more involved in "Falsification" of images, videos to the level that is not detectable by normal means !! This is more dangerous than useful to the society. There should be severe govt controls on this and should not be left to free market !
