There is no denying the recent uptick in anti-semitism in the past year. Are we at fault? What can we do about it, and is there any chance for it to change?
Rabbi Yossy Goldman is Life Rabbi Emeritus of Sydenham Shul in Johannesburg and president of the South African Rabbinical Association. He is the author of From Where I Stand, on the weekly Torah readings, available from Ktav.com and Amazon.

I am Egyptian born in Egypt my father and grandfather and great grandfather was all Egyptian as soon as I came to America and I started learning about Christianity I started studying the Bible and miraculously I fell in love with with Israel with all the Jewish people and I consider them my brothers and sisters and I became advocate for the great nation and I became pro-Israel. When October 7 happened I decided to join the IDF …… the rest is classified. And there’s millions and millions of us around the world. 🌎❤️🇮🇱

@yehuditcollins6783 My grandparents escaped the Russian and polish pogroms, lived in poverty in west London, they never complained. My grandfather and his brother fought in WW11. To fight against the Nazi invasion. You are right to feel depressed I do to, this global wave of hatred towards Jews is abhorrent in every shape, way and form. It’s a global wave of hatred, anti Semitism, anti Zionism just plain old racism and discrimination against Jews. Before October 7th I didn’t identify with being Jewish at all, I’ve lived my life as believing on upholding common decency, and respect towards humanity, with an agnostic attitude. I hope you know that by standing up to the bullies is now my daily routine. 💜✡️🇮🇱💜🙏

But not to clear out other nations. Jews are equal to other nations with equal rights and the same blame. Palestina is a territory, its people mustn't kill. Nobody has the right. Even the very nation that suffered holocaust. Couldn't you learn what is forbidden. The problem is with killing, not with jews or Arabs. This rabbi is an excellent lecturer. @agnesvirag5205 In Hebrew as in English there is a verb for kill and there is a verb for murder. It was a translation mistake to say "Do Not Kill." The 10 Commandments did not say Do Not Kill. The Commandments said Do not Murder. Kill is a killing. Murder is a non justified killing. In war one kills. Otherwise one would lose one's land and lives and the lives of children.

Yet ye say, Wherein hast thou loved us? Was not Esau Jacob's brother? saith the LORD: yet I loved Jacob, 3And I hated Esau, and laid his mountains and his heritage waste for the dragons of the wilderness. Obadiah 1: 18And the house of Jacob shall be a fire, and the house of Joseph a flame, and the house of Esau for stubble, and they shall kindle in them, and devour them; and there shall not be any remaining of the house of Esau; for the LORD hath spoken it. Hate for Israel has nothing to do with Jews. And nothing to do with antisemitism. That is the problem with this narrative. I personally hate murder. And at the moment Israel is pooring oil into the fire and the result is just more dead (innocent) people, caused by Narcistic idiots in Israeli government. Peace talks solve more, than any bomb can mask.

Well its good that you do not have hatred towards Jews. Christian leaders like Martin Luther HATED Jews to the point where his writings helped to fuel Jewish hate in Europe for centuries. Martin Luther wrote the book "On the Jews and Their Lies". In it, he recommends to “Set fire to their synagogues or schools,” Martin Luther also said that Jewish “prayer books and Talmudic writings, in which such idolatry, lies, cursing, and blasphemy are taught, [should] be taken from them.” Martin Luther also said that ""If I had to baptize a Jew, I would take him to the bridge of the Elbe, hang a stone around his neck and push him over with the words 'I baptize thee in the name of Abraham'". And also from """saint"""" Martin Luther : "He who hears this name (God) from a Jew must inform the authorities, or else throw sow dung at him when he sees him and chase him away". He was obviously NOT a "saint"

If I were you I would begin by looking at the names of those advocating most fervently for those sort of things and the ones who are supplying the funding/legal education for migrants. As the speaker notes certain truths are very unpleasant such as the ancient feud in between the Jewish people and Europeans, which manifests itself in various ways. By the way I have great respect for the Jewish people, and frequently listen to Rabbi Manis Friedman and Rabbi Simon Jacobson on KZfaq. I think something to keep in mind is that there's always two sides to a story.

Shortly after we came across a synagogue sadly it too was locked and the same occured, a man approached us, asked us if we would a look inside and opened the synagogue for us. Kevin Whelan here: I found this absolutely fascinating--and I'm not even Jewish (the clue: my surname, though I'm pleased that there appear to be an increasing number of Jewish Kevin's). A story I think you will like. I was living in London in 1989. It was a beautiful summer's day and I was on the Finsbury Park bus, which passed through Manor House, an area with a large Hassidic population. An elderly man (a rabbi?) got on the bus and sat beside me--he could have been out of a shtetl in Poland circa 1870. He was wearing that very cool gear of the Hassids: black coat, spotless white shirt; the whole bit. Basically, Amish but Jewish. I was fascinated by the Hassids and had to get a conversation going. What do do? Then I had my opening gambit: The weather! Perfect opener. Me: "It's a nice day, isn't it?" He paused and glanced briefly at me. Then: "TOO nice". To this day it remains the funniest gag I've ever heard. But here's what's also funny: there was just the tiniest TINIEST suggestion of a smile at one corner of his mouth--it was a masterpiece in comic acting. Now, if that had been a Catholic priest of a vicar, I would have got back: "Yes, isn't it a lovely day!" And we're be off. Mazel tov from Ireland.

When I was at university in the 1980s, the GLBA (Gay Lesbian Bisexual Alliance) was looking for a venue to hold a dance, at a time when this was still controversial. No private venues wanted to be associated with us, and university venues demanded a $150 custodial fee which we could not afford. Hillel House alone offered us their hall for free, asking only that we clean up afterwards. When we expressed our deep gratitude they merely said, they weren't using the hall that night, why should it go to waste? This simple act when we were otherwise out of options I will never forget.

When it comes to Gaza, after what happened in October last year, I think the West should stand with Israel.

Thank you for that brilliant breakdown..I read Anne Frank's Diary as a ten year old school girl. That was in 1959. I asked myself then and every year since, " God, why the Jewish people?" I am not Jewish, but always wished I was. The next book on the topicI read was titled " Atrocity." It broke my young heart. The author signed his name on the book cover by them number tattooed on his arm. I wept, and never forgot that survivor's biography. Again, I asked God, " Why the Jews?" I was 12. I read a hundred survivor's accounts in the years following. The question How could people treat other people with such brutality and inhumanity? And again, Why the Jews? The Lord I worshipped was from the tribe of Judah. My Bible was written by Jews. My faith is based on Judaism. Just know, there are gentile people who highly respect and value the precious Jewish neighbors around us. I began praying for Israel's protection and flourishing as a teen. I continue to lift up Jewsish communities, synagogues, cultural centers, and populations across the globe to our God, for His divine protection, blessing, and His mighty hand upon Israel. I cried when you told the story of your grandfather's survival, and the beautiful family that he has rebuilt from the ashes of the Holocaust. I personally had the honor to meet six survivors, and marveled at the grace apparent in their lives. My Hewish friend taught me some Hebrew, and celebrated Hannukah with my children and myself. Another Jewish Rabbi invited my children and myself to celebrate the Passover Seder with his family. I attended his congregation often with my five kids. God gave me a Jewish heart, and I thank you for your presentation. It still seems incomprehensible to me, this unreasoning antipathy. God bless.

@@Rabbivision4Goyim Anne Frank wrote her dairy with a fountain pen and with pencil, and most of the diary and loose sheets were written with gray-blue fountain pen ink. In addition, Anne also used thin red ink, green and red colored pencils and black pencil for her notes. But no ballpoint pen. In 1959, the diary was examined for authenticity. During that examination, a graphologist left a few notes among the original pages of the diary. In 1980, these notes were discovered by the German Federal Criminal Police Office (BKA) during an investigation of the paper and ink used in the diary. But in its report about it, the BKA gave the impression that "ballpoint corrections were made" in the diary itself. And because that ballpoint ink has only been in use since 1951, that report has been seized upon by Holocaust deniers as proof that the entire diary was not written until after World War II. In July 2006, the BKA declared as yet, that the 1980 study cannot be used to question the authenticity of the diary. source - annefrank.org

This is the most accurate analysis of antisemitism that I have seen or heard - and it eloquently states exactly the conclusion that I had come to from my own research and observations of nearly 70 years on this planet as a Jew. Antisemitism is irrational and ubiquitous, it’s on the left and the right, it’s baked into the world to the point that it is not even a conscious response - it just is. And I also agree that while it’s not going anywhere and we must continue to fight it despite how frustrating and exhausting that is, what is more important is to not be cowed or dissuade by it from living our lives authentically and proudly. And to never accept the role of victim. It is indeed more important not what others think of us but what we do.

Over the last couple of years, i have seen chilling echoes of what happened in the 30s. This talk has really helped. I understand a lot more and the explanation given makes much more sense than other i have heard. Jews are the conscience of the world. The extermination of the Jewish community in medieval Basel (1349 CE) is an event that deserves full analysis with regard to the possible reasons for antisemitism. A pandemic known as the Black Death had taken its toll on the people of Basel, but the Jews had largely survived it due to their hygienic customs (kosher laws). This was soon taken as a sign that the Jews had introduced the plague, very likely through witchcraft, and were thus worthy of being burnt alive. The horrific punishment occurred on an island in the Rhine river and is known as the Basel Massacre. The antisemtism of this particular event can be attributed to a combination of (a) superstition and (b) jealousy. It seems that these factors are capable of accounting for antisemitism in general.

The excuses made by the meat sack (bodies) of the children of the enemy irrespective of their identities or ethnicities are just excuses to appease the human mind. It could be anything - witchcraft or even the smell of a person. The jews are hated because they have The TRUTH and the complete destruction of the enemy was in their hands and the enemy who has deceived many wants their destruction. We non Jews live as Kings and Priests unto The ONLY Living GOD because of the Jews who rejected The Moshiach and the Door was opened to Our Redemption. For what it’s worth, and I really don’t mean any harm, but I must admit your use of “CE” ( common era ) is offensive to me. I don’t know if you’re Jewish, but this minor example could illustrate at least one source of antisemitism. Of course, one would have to ask why, since “AD” ( after the death of Christ ) is offensive to Jews. My response is that the year itself, let’s say 2024, even if followed by “CE”, is still based on the life of Christ. In other words, the year 2024 “CE” is still 2024 years after the death of Christ. But a Jewish person feels a need to not make reference to Jesus. I could tolerate this in the state of Israel. I find this behavior obnoxious and repugnant in Christian countries. I don’t know if this answers your question, but I felt a need to disclose that.
@Warrenbank1

@@bensanderson7144I appreciate your honesty and feelings on the subject, sir. However, it is important that you realise that the usage of BCE/ CE is the common standard in all academic usage when writing or discussing Ancient Near East or biblical studies. It began in the 17th century and almost certainly not by Jews. Apart from a few outliers, it is overwhelmingly accepted and indeed expected that academics and lecturers will only use BCE/ CE in order to use neutral, non-religious terms. I doubt very much that this is a Jewish idea at all, but it is obviously one that has been readily adopted by Jews. After over 2000 years, the reckoning of the count of years is totally universal (apart from religious calendars used to calculate the occurrence of festivals) that it is now completely secularized and devoid of religious associations such as “Anno Domini”. This system is also more accurate in that it makes no claim to date the year of Jesus’ birth which no one really knows.

Wow! How awesome to hear this today. Very well explained. Antisemitism is an awful thing. I am from the🇬🇧 UK. South Wales🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿. My church has meetings monthly praying for the Jewish communities wherever in the world. As this amazing Man just explained, in London UK. A man went into a mini Jewish store, he regularly went to. Since October when everything happened heartbreaking I must add. This man was arrested for trying to hurt the shop owners with a knife. Why!!! He shopped there regularly at one time. That's how police new who to look for.why!!!! Just to jump on the band wagon. He has no grievances with these beautiful people. I'm so upset what's happening In this word to the Jews. Ashamed that someone in our country can attack a Jewish shopkeepers who no doubt, their children and Grandchildren were born here. That's their right to bring them up In their ways, and culture. No one else's business. It so saddens me. Our church stands with all Jews Sunday they were out in support of the Jews. Getting the truth out there. I wish I could add a photo here. There were hundred+ supporting Jewish communities , who were also out too. We dont go out attacking a Welsh family, who are teaching their childre to speak fluent Welsh. That's their right. So sad to happen to say uk people attack the Jews. Shame on them. We hold you all up in prayers always 🙏🙏Shalom.🇮🇱🇮🇱 An Awesome message.(🇮🇱🇮🇱🇬🇧🇬🇧Together)🙏🙏🙏🙏

24:16 I watched a KZfaq video last week it talked about these dots and there was a Jewish man playing a beautiful harp. He continued to play the harp and told us that the music he was playing was centuries old and he said those dots we're ancient symbols of music and he played music centuries old based on those dots that his wife had deciphered from her knowledge base on Ancient teachings of these particular tablets. They did not say it was an asterisk they specifically said they were music notes? Confused entirely. So please do explain why the contradictory information? I'm more inclined to believe the upload of the musicians that I am the answer from this rabbi. Who's wrong? Or am I misinformed? 🇨🇦

As a Roman Catholic I'm perplexed by what to me? Seems like almost a shock wave of hate, transferrance of accountability, and quite literally the sheer number of people who suddenly and without warning? Hate the Jewish people. I mean if there's a word stronger then hate? Rage? I asked my husband last week. If he thought about it? Is like a sucker punch to the mind. Of course he gave me possibilities of reasoning. But they were decades old reasons. I mean countries go to war all the time and they attack each other and retaliate I didn't know what the difference here was in terms of global response. I mean what do you think was going to happen after October 7th. I seriously need a better explanation past a mass Contagion of mental illness. Mmy listening ears are on. 🇨🇦✌️

In my country, there's no Jew in sight but I grew up thinking how ruthless this fellas can be and had mixed feelings about Jesus. But I read the bible and realized He loved His own people and willingly submitted to the cross and thereby extended salvation to whole of mankind to those who believe in Him. Romans 1 : 16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek.

I learned the following story from a documentary I saw on PBS TV about 10 to 15 years ago, but I will never forget it. When Hitler was young and trying to become a painter, he was having very little success. His paintings weren't selling, and he was so poor that he lived in a youth hostel - something like a dormitory or a shelter for the very poor. He had tried to gain entrance into a Painter's College but was rejected. However, he would still stroll the streets of Vienna with his easel and paints creating his paintings and hoping for some good luck. In a certain park somewhere in Vienna, he met a pretty, young gir from a wealthy family to whom he started speaking. He tried to start a relationship with her but she rejected him possibly because he had nothing to offer. Still he kept pursuing her but without success. Eventually she had to tell him to leave her alone and she stopped going to that park. Her last name was Isak, an obviously Jewish name, and Hitler knew this. He had been relentlessly pursuing a Jewish girl and this young, attractive Jewess from a family of some wealth had strongly rejected him because this young, poverty-stricken Hitler had refused to leave her alone. When I saw this on my TV screen, a thought suddenly formed in my mind. I thought to myself "Don't tell me he started hating Jews because a Jewish girl had once deliberately and strongly rejected him when he was still quite young!" This thought reverberated through my mind for the next several hours and it finally seemed to me that it could easily have been true. I suddenly believed that I knew something quite "unknown" about Hitler that essentially no one else knew unless they had also watched that same TV show, and I now believed it likely to be true. Now, I cannot say if that documentary was 100% true, but 1) it was on PBS which is almost always trustworthy, and 2) it was a shocking yet potential explanation for Hitler's virulent anti-semitism. To this very day, I still believe that this young, Austrian Jewish Isak girl unwittingly pushed Adolf Hitler over the line and into certain mental illness and anti-semitism by inadvertently "breaking his heart".

I am Polish and was raised to be a Catholic. However since I was about 11 years old my father told me to educate myself, and gave me books from underground press, as he did not believe that Communist education system would allow for unbiased learning of history, among other things. I also was told at that time that my grandfather on my mother’s side was Jewish. One of the results of my self-education on history carried, during course of over 40 years, by reading Polish, Russian, German, English, French and lately Ukrainian sources, and what I observed in post-communist Poland, was that I moved away from Catholic Church. Other result was disillusion towards Jewish claims just like those made in this video. @5:30 Let me get this straight: "justice, righteousness, morality and virtue" ... are according to Rabbi Yossy Goldman represented in political movements like Communism or Socialism??? People like Josef Unszlicht or Moisei Uritsky were just carrying out "social change" ... as top rank members of VCzK (also known as Czeka)??? I do wonder if introduction of the Red Terror by none other than Lev Davidovich Bronstein, also known as Leon Trotsky, is part of that praised social change??? Well, I do disagree with such an assessment, WHOLEHEARTEDLY! October 7th (or Holocaust, for that matter) does not give you the right to whitewash Communist/Socialist regime crimes committed in part by Jews - because you are right about the involvement of Jews in that. I just gave three examples. Jews were part of Stalin's apparatus of oppression up until he decided he did not need them anymore in September 1948 (after 50 thousand Jews welcomed Golda Meir in Moscow, showing that they were not loyal only to Stalin's regime). Why bring up the Jews charged along Nelson Mandela, and not mention the terror attacks carried out by ANC against other Africans in which Jews (as is supposed by some historians) were involved (by supplying funds for instance)? Is South Africa now a paradise state or maybe it does experience serious problems due in part to Mandela's policies of the past? It is painfully obvious that the entire narrative of this “lecture” is “the world hates us” and “the world says we are Nazis” when in truth after 7th October huge number of people in the world expressed the outrage at the atrocity committed. It is especially interesting that for instance while talking about WWII and specifically Warsaw Ghetto Rabbi decided to bring in the supposed glee of European nations to take part in eradicating the Jews and a story of three Jews offered a way out, but with a remark that that offer might have been insincere! What Rabbit failed to mention were thousands of Poles directly involved in helping their Jewish co-citizens of pre-war Poland escape the Warsaw Ghetto like Irena Sendler, who with her organization saved 2500 Hewish children from Warsaw Ghetto alone. Why isn’t Doctor Eugeniusz Łazowski a world-known figure - he saved 8000 people, both Poles and Jews, while Schindler 1100 (for which he is justly revered)? Rabbi completely failed to mention hundreds of thousands Poles helping Jews across the country. Why? Well because if the “world hates us” than we must not talk about those that faced death penalty for themselves and often their families (as the only nation in Europe), and still decided to help Jews. This is the same rhetoric that emphasizes and often overestimates the crimes done at places like Jedwabne, while at the same time is silent about people like Antonina Wyrzykowska and her family, who sheltered 7 Jews for 26 months after Jedwabne. The rhetoric that is silent on hundreds of villages where people helped Jews and got punished by death, and those that simply did not inform on the neighbors, were punished by German who burned the entire village. Because “world hates us” is the only message allowed. Jews are not only victims, only moral, only good. As in ANY other large group of people (be it a nation, religious group, etc.) there will be both good and bad people in that group. Period. Yes most Jews were the victims of various crimes during WWII. But not all. To be frank about 200 000 Jews were actively involved in crimes of Communist apparatus of oppression - but talking about is considered faux pa, to say the least. Now there are confirmed reports of actions taken by Israeli Army that constitute war-crimes and require investigation, and demanding investigation is somehow “anti-Semitic” to some people. Because "Jews are the conscience of the world" (@7:55) so no one must talk of actual historical facts that would negate this, right? That is “anti-Semitic”. Because we do talk about facts only when others are "wrong"? The Jews cannot be wrong, it would seem, right? When World Central Kitchen vehicle was attacked by Israeli Army and 7 volunteers were killed in early April, thousands of people, also in Israel, demanded investigation into the event or in some way condemned the attack, what was the reaction of Ambassador of Israel in Poland, Jaakow Liwne? He commented on post of only one person, a right wing politician, and concluded that "anti-Semites will be anti-Semites". To a high ranking Israeli diplomat questioning the military attack on unarmed human aid vehicle is "anti-Semitism"! The opinion of people that could not be blamed for previous criticism towards Israel non-withstanding, Mr. Liwne made only this one post. How exactly am I to react to such behavior? I do not react with hatred towards all Jews, off course, but I react with scorn towards all who twist and omit the truth in order to promote some ideology or specific idea. Like it was done here.
