The meal deal isn't a scam. Just don't pack your own lunch. The meal deal is way more convenient even though you were already probably at home at some point in the near past and ultimately spend as much time getting the meal deal if not more than packing your own lunch in the first place it's definitely more convenient from a laziness forward thinking delayed gratification perspective. If you don't want to think or you're on the brink then the meal deal is your best option. I think I just came up with the new slogan. Live in the moment, the future isn't in your control, buy a meal deal. It won't work on Chinese people though, don't try to market that psychology there trust me. Trust me.

I’m a tesco manager, we don’t lose any money off the meal deals, who told you it’s a loss leader? 😂
@JoshAston23
@JoshAston23 6 ай бұрын
Exactly - just because it's discounted doesn't mean it's a loss leader, it just means a smaller profit margin than if the items were purchased individually. Making it a deal also could mean people are spending more money by thinking 'yes I'll pay X more money to have a snack and a drink that I otherwise wouldn't have purchased'

@me-myself-i787
@me-myself-i787 6 ай бұрын
@@CeroAshuraThat's stupid. It's none of the government's business how much people charge for their stuff. The second-hand goods market would vanish overnight if it was illegal to sell stuff for less than you bought it for. Imagine used cars costing the same as new ones. Imagine used books costing the same as new ones. Not many people would buy them, though some would due to the environment benefit. Plus, it could be argued that even selling the car for more than it was new would be considered selling it as a loss because the extra money is not enough to offset all the maintenance, fuel and storage costs over the course of its ownership, and those costs should be factored in because they were required to bring the car into its current condition. Say you paid $50000 for a car. You spend $10000 on maintenance, fuel and parking in total over the course of your ownership of the car. These costs were required to bring the car into its current condition. As a result, it would be illegal to sell the car for less than $60000 because that would be considered a loss. No-one would buy it for $60000 because they can just buy a new car for $50000, and it would be in better condition. (The $10000 in expenses caused your car to change, not improve.) Plus, supermarkets would not be able to sell stuff that's nearing expiration, because everyone would rather buy stuff which lasts longer, and it's illegal to sell them for less than they were bought for. So, instead of losing a little bit of money selling stuff which is nearing expiration at a loss, they end up not selling it before it expires, and then they have to throw it out and lose all the money they spent buying it. In short, let people choose what price to sell their stuff at.

Here is how you beat the system: 1. Go to any big supermarket preferably Lidl/Aldi. Purchase a loaf of bread, 2 cases of sandwich filler or whatever thing you like. 2. Go Lidl or Aldi and spend £1 on a 6 bag pack of crisp. Pick your flavour 3. While still in Lidl or Aldi for 1 pound you can buy a 6 pack of fizzy drink Altogether this will cost you around £5. You’ve just brought lunch for the week. This guy is not saving you money as his way will cost you £10 + for the week. You’re welcome.

Please look at how much they sell a loaf of sliced bread for before saying they're making a loss on the meal deal . Theres no way the sandwiches are too expensive. It just feels like a good idea because it says "deal" in the name and it rymes. Side note I dont understand hoe coke can sell 2Litre bottles for so cheap compared to their cans or 500ml bottles. In short the meal deal is a rip off because people arent there for grocery shopping just a cheap meal so as long as they undercut the restaurants/take outs nearby the supermarkets can charge a little *more* than normal not *less*.

1: It is not a loss leader. They make a profit. 2. They are not 'artificially inflating' prices, that is an economic term that has absolutely no relevance here. They have higher prices for club card and non clubcard but price fixing overall is illegal. 3. Lunch is already part of the daily routine and does not need to become part. Although people may be brand loyal to Tesco (45% of their shoppers according to statistica) when it comes to a meal deals most are likely to shop from the nearest and most convenient.

I don't eat sugar, I bake my own bread, I cook from scratch and I am almost vegan. I drink three cups of black tea a day. I am not eating the same stuff every day. All my food and beverages for the whole week comes to £20 and my portion sizes are massive. For me a meal deal is extortionate, totally unhealthy, very boring with too much rubbish since I recycle almost everything. Even the convenience of the meal deal is dubious, I have my lunch with me already, no need to go to Tesco's for lunch. I am beating the system and physically very fit. You are what you eat.

A few years ago I calculated the cost of the sandwich that I took to work, took some time but was simple cost of product divided by the number of sandwiches. Marmite. Hovis bread (not the cheapest it's middle of the pack), Flora butter (again not the cheapest middle of the pack), store brand cheese. store brand ham, store brand pork luncheon meat. and Store brand salami, and Chinese leaf at a cost of 77p per sandwich. This was when meal deals where around £3.50. the meal deals maybe enjoyed but they are not really great value for what you get.
