The fact that we in Vegas do not have enough money for schools but we happen to have 500 million for a stadium... makes me sick.
@ronclark9724
@ronclark9724 9 ай бұрын
The state legislature didn't cut the school budget this year, in fact it increased... Nor is the state spending taxes for this stadium, only selling bonds... On the other hand the teachers do WANT more money, all government bureaucrats do... Of course the teachers could go on strike, but alas, their current contract hasn't expired...

if i'm from vegas, i don't want a team that's owned by john fisher. I would want an expansion team with a different owner. what's the point of having the a's move here if fisher is still not going to put together a competitive roster
@ronclark9724
@ronclark9724 Жыл бұрын
I believe Fisher will sell the team as soon as the team has a new stadium increasing the value of the team significantly... Someone else will own the team soon, count on it. I recall when Bob Short moved the Washington Senators to Dallas/Fort Worth. Short sold the team soon thereafter even though Arlington Stadium was by no means a MLB stadium. Arlington Stadium was a minor league ballpark that doubled its seating capacity by adding 18 thousand outfield bleacher seats. Wash, rinse, repeat! Including Short during the past 50 years the Rangers have gone through SIX different ownerships. Probably why the Rangers haven't won a lot of pennants...

Gimmicks always fall short. It’s like the niners bragging about making more than any other team in ticket sales - yet the Dallas cowboys sell more tickets…. That tells you 2 things - 1 cowboys are more popular / 2 they provide a better customer experience by charging less. Money doesn’t tell the full story and If you pull the curtains back - those charging more are just ripping off their fan base….. It’s plain to see

Real Estate 101.... The city of Oakland IS the landlord, not the Oakland A's. The city of Oakland IS responsible for the sad state of the Oakland Coliseum, not the Oakland A's. When your lease is about to expire, if your landlord desires you sign a new lease, the landlord is most likely willing to make improvements, such as new paint, carpet, kitchen appliances, and even a new toilet. Without any doubt whatsoever the city of Oakland IS a BAD landlord.
@serafinacosta7118
@serafinacosta7118 Жыл бұрын
It goes to the letter of the contract. Most commercial real estate leases are triple net , where the lessee assumes property insurance , taxes , and improvements. The landlord or lessor, becomes responsible to the building’s structural integrity. Which usually is roof and walls , and nothing else. So plumbing , electrical , turf , facilities become the domain of the A’s. Once again , letter of the contract needs to be seen.
@gamer_athletics
@gamer_athletics Жыл бұрын
But both the A’s and Oakland each own half of the that site. So wouldn’t that mean it’s both of their responsibilities? I mean the A’s have upgraded some sections of the stadium and some concessions stands.

The City of Oakland was willing to do anything to keep the A's in Oakland tho. They tried to work with the A's ownership even through government disputes and port lawsuits but at the end of the day, they were lied to and used as leverage by the A's ownership. The A's owner is a BAD owner who cares not about the fans but about money.
@serafinacosta7118
@serafinacosta7118 Жыл бұрын
@@gamer_athletics regardless whose name is in the title of deed , the ball club takes tenancy. Landlord is the Alameda County. The A’s are the tenant. The landlord provides for building integrity ( roof , the concrete under the seats , walls ). Restrooms , vending areas , concourse , playing field , offices , clubhouses , training facilities , plumbing , HVAC , electrical is all in the ball club. That is a default lease contract , unless dictated otherwise.

News flash. There is more to life than sports. God Bless Oakland. May the city thrive on. Howard Cosell said it best. "In that time, I came to realize, however reluctantly, that there was an inexorable force working against revelations of truth about sports in America. That force exists in the form of an unholy alliance between the three television networks and the sports print medium. It is the fundamental purpose of both, for their own reasons, to exalt sports, to regale the games, the fights, the races, whatever, to the point where these contests are indoctrinated into the public mind as virtual religious rituals."

7:03 "but this really wasn't Oakland's fault." Bullcrap. Let me explain why. You're not wrong in blaming John Fisher and the A's ownership group for doing all the wrong that they did. However, you ARE wrong in basically letting the Oakland city government off the hook in this issue. As you said, it takes two to tango in negotiations, and I'm sorry but I don't see any proof whatsoever that the city of Oakland ever negotiated in "good faith", as Mayor Sheng Thao put it. Do you see what Oakland as a city is dealing with, putting baseball aside? Whose fault is that? Oakland city government. They had at least 20 years to get a new stadium deal done with the A's, and the politicians dragged their feet every chance they got. If the local government truly cared about keeping the A's (or any pro sports team) in Oakland, they would have gotten a deal done instead of the nonsense we've seen. There are no good guys/heroes in this story. I see nothing but bad guys/villains jockeying for position, and of course the fans are the ones who get hurt the most. You can't 100% blame the A's for not wanting to wait forever for Oakland politicians to get their act in gear while playing in a collapsing Coliseum and settling for Las Vegas. Plenty of blame to go around imo.

I’m not defending either side because ultimately there’s a lot of people to be blamed here but let’s not ignore that facts here. Im speaking on the current Howard Terminal project not the past projects here but the A’s asked them for $350 million for offsite infrastructure and Oakland got $375 million and guess what Covid happened delays happened. Inflation happened. A’s asked for more and ultimately they were stuck on $80-$90 million to complete the project and they were planned last week before this happened to to come together and finish the project. And A’s got too greedy thinking Oakland would continue to bend over backwards for them and it ultimately backfired and now they are facing huge backlash

Further, who among us would want to deal with ideologs (city of Oakland) that place BS requirements on every project (low housing). The city made everything complicated, and it is always off the backs of the developer. So, the A's responded with a sell off of assets to push the issue over the edge.
