Hopefully the slime dolls bring in more money for them so they can fund a more collector focused line under the Rainbow High brand. I'm also interested to see if they do anything with the "Storybrooke" theme they copyrighted a while back.

In Fance, RH dolls sell like hot cakes and G3 MH not that much. There were also very few MH released in France last time I went last month. Only the core dolls and one of the lockers series. I am going back in January. I am gonna make my own "survey"! In the UK, lol omgs are the most popular dolls and they sell more than RH/SH and MH. It seems dolls in general are selling less regarding of the brand.

Wow, that experience is so different compared to mine! I live in Spain, and Rainbow High is a really popular doll line, even amongst children. These almost never go on sale because they're very successful. On the other hand, MHG3 is almost always on sale (they even lowered the original price because people refused to buy them for 35€). I always see kids in the toy isle talking about the dolls, even parents talking about how much the kids love them (even though they're really expensive). Seeing how things are in the US is so jarring because in my country is exactly the complete opposite...

I’ve seen several people say that! And Europe is bigger so it’s weird they decided to rebrand RH since Europe is the opposite of MH. In Spain is it only the core five dolls that are available? In the US, I think there have been 64 G3 MH dolls that have been released.

I'm someone who has bought about 97% of my RH and SH dolls on sale though to be fair I've also bought maybe 95% of my MH G3 collection on sale as well. I do think there's a lot of hypocritical adult collectors that will gripe about how the fashions for the new Rainbow High look cheap yet they are over there buying every single MH release at full price. And let's be honest, Mattel produces so many low quality clothing pieces, the majority of MH clothes have never reached the level of MGA clothes. What's fueling MH is the sheer nostalgia and they are winning regardless of clothing quality or if there's 20 Dracularas that all kind of look extremely similar in terms of face makeup. I understand the pets aspect but I will say that I think slime isn't that hot right now. Kids were crazy about it a few years ago but the craze seems to have died down. MGA can't let the slime gimmick go... I surely would like to see a yearly Rainbow High collector doll but I know their prices for collector dolls have been very high upon release. When Maria Garcia came out people were shocked about the price. I was too, I thought MGA was insane for doing that. I personally will not be giving any of my money towards Rainbow High anymore. The same applies to the Lol Tweens who have recently lost their stands and wrist articulation. I will enjoy what I already have in my collection.

I’ll admit, I have been stuck on hating the reboot. This video, your opinions, completely changed my perspective on the reboot. As an adult collector, some of us (myself included) forget that we are not the main demographic. We make up around 17% of doll sales. That is not enough money for major companies to cater to our wants. Rainbow High was the only doll brand I genuinely enjoyed from 2020-2023, but good things must come to an end. I’m still excited for the fashion packs. 🙂

You did a nice analysis here, and it all makes sense from a business standpoint. But I'm sure you know already that I can't say it's a good thing 😂 I'm definitely in the camp of let it die. I would have rather they make a new brand if they wanted to go in this direction. Or even revamp Dream Ella and make that their colorful/slime/pet brand. I kinda agree. As an adult im not sure if the approach will work or not since when other brands have done this, they've died. However I can see how a kid will like these changes. When I was a child all I cared about was cute girls. The rainbow high dolls are still pretty. I didnt care about pets at all as a kid but to each their own. When i was a kid, slime wasnt a trend for kids yet, but I didn't have experience with it. Tho i see why kids would enjoy it. I'm a bit iffy on the rebrand as it looks like their desperate last effort. Which will either get more sales or solidify the downfall. Im worried about the state the brand is in as a collector. As a collector, Im not a fan of this rebrand. Not because of slime but. Because they dont seem like they wanna be fashion dolls anymore. Which was the main draw. I hope they put more effort into the fashion packs so I can get them for my current collection. But if not, well it was a good run. I didnt need to spend anymore anyways.

By that logic they have exhausted their kid “appeal” with this release soooo what’s next? As a parent I would not buy more than one of these. Slime plus hair and fabric clothing is a no no. That is an activity I save to do with my child cuz it’s messy but since it’s doll centric I would end up with a mess or an upset child. I get ur point but this was a miss speaking as a parent who buys the toys since ya know kids can’t…

The more I think about it the more I think it might also be a question of cost. I don't want to slag off G3 MH but I have seen Venus in Smyths toys. Venus is a lot better than most G3 MH dolls but still... poor Chewlian is so pixelated it simply looks awful and I am not impressed with her crappy pixelated accessories either. It is a shame. Maybe kids don't notice pixels lol I do! Her clothes are ok but they are "Barbie Extra" quality. On the other hand, some SH dolls literally look like collector dolls to me. Monique blew me away when I unboxed her. The quality of her dress, the amazing shoes, the exquisite details of her jewellery. To me it is unbelievable that a doll like this is sold as "playline" for the same price as a G3 MH or a Barbie Extra (same price here in Europe, Barbie Extra went a bit down recently but G3 MH are the same price as RH/SH). The intricate details are amazing for adult collectors but it must cost in production and it also makes the dolls not appropriate for play. I maybe should not compare them but MH are located just near SH dolls in Smyths! It is difficult to avoid the comparison when they are so near each others! The choice of the gimmick with slime is a bit strange. I guess RH started with slime so they went back to their roots. I have no idea if kids still like slime. I really don't want RH to disappear. I hope the reboot will work for the line. I will not collect them actively but I am not against buying one or two if I like them in real life. I don't collect G3, I have one and I am planning to buy only a few if I like them. They don't appeal to me as an adult collector but I am also not against buying a few I like. I agree with you about the return of MH. It has definitely affected RH. They are not great quality but they are so much more appropriate for play. And they are Monster High! The characters are strong and well defined. They appeal to youger children.

Sorry for so many comments. The last thing I wanted to say is that the loss of articulation is probably a good move for kids. As a kid, I hated monster high becuse their limbs came off easily. Tho monster high G1 and RH are very different in terms of quality, I know lots of kids still lose the hands. Which I get can be annoying for kids. And I agree the thigh moving probably isnt relevant. Honestly as an adult, I hardly use or notice that articulation point.

I personally feel like with the amount dolls collectors buy, they should still have been remembered. I think they could have held both audiences. And I feel dissapointed because adult collectors barely seem to have gotten a thought. Adult collectors who would buy every doll in the line, would buy every playset. Rainbow high isn't the cheapest, and if you wanted to up the price and go big, I think adult collectors would be there. I think children would be a miss. (and adult collectors love bright colours. They buy colourful dolls. With articulation and fashion. If MGA wants rainbow high for kids they can take out the glass eyes and paint there faces. Give them 5 points of articulation. Kids wouldn't care. Colourful clothes, pets and slime, they'll be fine. So they should stop leading adults on and really destroy rainbow high already. Stop giving us hope) It feels like adult collectors are being punished and left to the side. There is nothing for adult collectors who this brand meant everything to. A lot of people aren't collecting Monster High G3. They won't cross over. They were just here for rainbow high, waiting for what was new. And it's all gone now. I think MGA could have seen this happening. Edited social media, leaked new thoughts on the next line for slightly older audiences, told adult collectors there was still something there for them. They haven't. Adult collectors are freefalling. And I don't appreciate freefalling. I like a surprise but knowing if my THING is gone for the foreseeable future or not is downright frightening. There's nothing good for the adult doll collectors to talk about. I like to think this will be a problem. Because I don't think I can forget. And I don't want to hold a grudge against my favourite doll line, but a grudge against mga I can hold. And I'm close to it.

I watched Melissa’s unboxing video from My World and she mentioned that maybe RH will make collector dolls for adults. I really hope they do something like that because RH did cater to adult collectors first so it’d be nice if they kept making dolls for everyone and not just the kids.
@wonderingdowntherabbithole37218 ай бұрын
Sure, maybe the kids don't care about the "high fashion" or "name brands", I can see that point. But, I think the kids could love to see their dolls dressing like their favorite celebrity. Think Miley Cyrus, back during Hannah Montana. I also think one of the main reasons the kids dont like Shadow High is because they are strange skin colors. Like gray, pink and purple. Dont get me wrong, I can see how that might appeal to the adult collectors. But, I dont think purple skin is what the focus groups meant when they said, "kids love color". Something I think MGA failed at was development of their characters. They introduced a lot of new characters very quickly, without giving us much to go on as far as their personality, and so on. Along with that was the fact that they would introduce all these new characters and then as soon as that season of the webisodes was over, we would never see those characters again; at least not more as a reconizeable background character. So why would the kids feel the need to get theses dolls when the characters would be "gone" or "shoved to the back" by the next season? This is something that Monster High does right! They foster, the characters they bring on. Finally, I'm sorry, but, I just think that the slime aspect is just going to be a turn off the parents. Its something that the parent has to do with the child, and they may not have time for that. Even if they did have the time to make the slime, what about the mess in the house? Or even the children themselves? Slime in the kids hair or clothes. Then, like all things like that, where's the "fun" once the slime dries up? What other things will the kids try to put into the shoes or whatever to get the same effect? These seem like silly questions, but they did say that these dolls will be for ages 4+. 4 year olds get some silly and possibly dangerous ideas. So I don't totally hate the rebrand. I was on board with them going back to the core girls, and maybe developing their personalities and stories a little bit. But, not at the cost of an over simplification of the dolls and outfits. (P.S. pets could have been introduced as part of us learning more about the characters.)
@kristinaland7 ай бұрын
You’re definitely right in that they added so many characters in the show only to never talk about them again. It is strange they decided to do that instead of keep adding more character development to the main line. For kids dressing like celebs, I don’t think it necessarily needs to be a carbon copy of high fashion as long as it resembles what kids’ favorite celebs are wearing. But I am someone who has never paid attention to fashion even when I did like several celebrities as a kid so I could be the wrong person to talk about that. For slime, yeah I can see your point that after a bit it won’t be fun anymore or it will be too messy and sticky at first especially if parents aren’t helping their kids with it.
