I have this 480 chip in my new Motorola g stylus 5g 2021 version. I wasn't expecting very much from it to be honest but this processor has proven to be just as fast and smooth as my older Motorola g stylus 2020 phone with the snapdragon 665 processor. Very few KZfaqrs have covered this in a separate video. As you said, only a tiny portion of people buy the flagships, while the majority are interested in the budget offerings. Great video!

Ahh the SD480. I recently upgraded to the 732G coming from a 430 for almost 4 yrs and also 400 series before that. Nice to see the entry level get a good performance boost and the addition of 5G. Excited for the next gen midrange processors.

Great overview of the new SOC which will hopefully make people think twice before taking the Exynos plunge {disappointing}. The other concern is the availability of 5G, we're still some time away from that realisation in the real world, I barely get 3G in a lot of areas around West Sussex. It's good to know what may be coming in the future but only for big city residents.

Is Snapdragon 480 a good choice if I expect snappy and fast device in web browsing, apps like Twitter, KZfaq, fast user interface (launcher), propper camera experience and NO GAMING at all? I have the feeling that when I pay for 7xx or 8xx series I pay extra for 3D graphic performance. Other alternative is Snapdragon 675 which looks like a good choice for a good general using experience (assuming no games). Power efficency is also not an issue for me as 90% of devices are capable to work for 1 day. Bluetooth version is not an issue, one camera in 1080 is enough for me (4K is realy too much for me). Is my interpretation correct?

This 480 AI, or Hexagon is rated at 3.3 TOPS. I am glad to see Qualcomm bring more ML to their lower end chips. Looking at Wikipedia (List of Qualcomm Snapdragon processors), the Hexagon DSP is faster than the Snapdragon 845. It will be interesting to see how fast this chip really is.

The fact that this entry-level chipset has the same performance as a two-year-old upper midrange chipset and triple camera capture is enough to lure any average consumers who don't do mobile gaming. Just about the only thing missing is HDMI ALT external display support, or else this can be a real winner.

Even if there's a growing subset of flagship users, a good percentage are "carry-overs" on either used, refurb or just plain still in use units. Until flagships can really get on another paradigm shift say becoming a proper "converged" device, this situation isn't gonna change any time soon.

I would expect this new chip to be as fast as the cutting edge from 2-3 years ago. Basically SD835-SD845; which is definitely usable. What is more important is the price range of these devices. Taking mid range devices SD700 and SD600 series which usually retail between $300-$500 range means we can see devices that are sub $300 that support 5g.

I'm with Virgin UK and I'm lucky if a get 4G around my area.

I don't understand, why Qualcomm can't use Adreno640 in their 7-series SoCs. They are still giving users Adreno 620 or 619L.. I mean wtf. Those devices costs $400 or more, for god's sake. But hopefully, their monopoly will no longer work anymore, I'll just wait for Exynos w/ RDNA.

If it is correct that SD865 (December 2018) is properly supporting 5G SA and NSA I wonder why manufacturers did not include that features for the markets... There is still a lot of devices NOT supporting European network standards. So where or who is the problem? 5G Dual Sim should follow via update for a lot of devices - still not there eigther. 'Who' can explain? In some markets carriers even stopped selling '5G phones' as they were not compatible to their networks (and still are not fully compatible, best known example is Apple's iPhone 12 series).

Hello you forgot to mention the SD480 TDP is only 3Watts which is very low for its performance compared to the other chipset like the SD600 and some 700 which has 5Watts and above TDP

Pretty disappointed that 5g infrastructure has been pretty slow in the UK to integrate.

We're not going to move away from 4g. 5g is just alternative. Because is so territorial and the reach area will not as wide as 4g. Even 4g is still not implemented very well or available at many areas in some countries. And it still fast. But is good to know new entry mobile soc had fast processor and have native support for 5g.

I bought the tcl 4x for $50 on eBay and it blew away my moto G8 power with a sd 665..... This 480 is like a two year old 732g.... Crazy

A cpu without 4K video playback is useless. What if you want to see 4K movies or a 4K video that a friend with a good camera has captured with his camera and sent it to you on the messenger? We have 5G everywhere, now we need 4K video playback everywhere.
