it may have to come down to the robot software/communications being encrypted to the owners bio-metrics. although not impossible these robots can be made nearly hack proof and be equipped with emergency shut downs, kill switches, and factory resets. i would compare them more to smartphones, crypto wallets, or chipped credit cards.

I agree. Making it more human-like doesn't make it more useful, in fact now it's limited to what a humanoid can do and will never do everything a person could. Look at the fingers on Optimus! A Person, without looking, can pick up just one small screw out of a pile and orient it in his hand while moving to place it. A person can reach into their pocket and count change without looking. Could those fingers even pick up a needle to thread it? Start a roll of tape, put a lid on a cup, make change out of a register? How long would it take to peel a label off the backing? I like most all of the things he is doing, though I won't buy the car either, I don't think electric is really good enough yet to be a main vehicle nor do I have a place to charge where I live. Im not about to buy a car to have to take it to the mall every week and sit in their parking lot waiting on it to charge.

When your car is charged, it may be able to notify you that it's ready. Tesla is one brand that can do that. Or, if you have a Tesla, you can occupy that "wasted" time in the parking lot with games, internet searches, or personal computer work. Possibly in other brands too. As to whether EVs are good enough to be one's main car, if one is staying in town and commuting to a job, almost all EVs are capable of enough range. For longer trips, this year and the next, more reliable fast-charging will be available for almost all brands. They're not going to be good for ALL use cases, but I think they can work for the vast majority of people. Now we need to have the prices come down. They are cheaper to drive already; now they must become as inexpensive to buy as even a cheap gas car.

we have built the world around the human form, while things like spot will be better for a lot of tasks, I think there will be plenty of "humanoid" tasks, even more so since it will be mostly current infostructure being used along side the robots at least at first. Why tare down the entire factory when you can use the current one with robotics until you are able to build a new one that is fully automated, and then there may be even human elements in the design as we will need people, or at least larger robots, to do repairs and other tasks.

i suppose this is why boston dynamics seems to still be developing atlas. They dont seem nearly as married to the human shape as tesla though. For years Boston Dynamics has been manufacturing robots that can do much more than the Teslabot, and BD has a range of robots to suit a wide variety of practical needs - not one stilty, awkward-looking bot that obviously can’t even manage to walk up or down a slight incline. Boston Dynamics’ Atlas robots are doing parquet, ffs, and the Teslabots can barely stand upright beside a conveyor belt. The reason this video doesn’t have footage of Teslabots actually DOING anything - except walking for 2 seconds - is because they CAN’T do anything - except wiggle their fingers and sort eggs - both things that Engineered Arts’ Ameca has been capable of and publicly demonstrating for over two years. Robotics companies in China are making bespoke androids with moving hands/fingers and mobile facial expressions that match the tone of conversation. If Elon Musk ever manages to get Teslabots into production mode, he’s going to have much more, and much stiffer competition than he ever did with his EVs. His engineers had better keep burning the midnight oil if they want to catch up to all of the R&D the other companies have continued to undertake, while Musk has tried to figure out how to do what they’re already doing.

@@Gnaritas42They do run on laws. Those laws are programs via coding. The laws are translated into human understanding hence the ‘law’ dictation.’ For the robots those laws would be converted back into code, which the Robot would follow as part of the parameters hardwired into them. Regardless of peoples opinion on the laws themselves, Laws should certainly be implemented in all robots.

No. There are already a wide variety of better robots & androids in actual production, actually being used, and they’re far more advanced than the Teslabot. By the time Musk gets these into production (IF he ever does) other companies will continue to eclipse him in sales, as their utility & reliability will already be proven (things Musk has had issues with, in all of his post-paypal ventures) and they’ll be very competitively priced.

@@tnguyen777You should look into Boston Dynamics “Spot” and “Atlas” robots then. They’ve been in production for years and already have a proven track record in a variety of industries - and they’re tough - you can’t knock them over with a feather like the Teslabot. Boston Dynamics also has a fabulous KZfaq channel - worth checking out.

@@BurntRaisinToast …. I was actually thinking and I’m sure or perhaps Elon and his team may have as well is, building specific Bod units for Mars and Moon programs. The amount of help these future astronauts will need will be astronomical to say the least and having these Bod units may ease some aspects required for such endeavors I feel. But just only thinking out of the box, but who knows what may be by then.
