The trick is to put the minute hand 30 second ahead of the seconds hand when you synchronize. Then it will be accurate as after the initial half minute "lag", the hands synch with each other. I had to do this with my Seastar 1000 quartz.

100% user error. The minute hand is calibrated each time you set the time....by the user. It works this way on all movements including Miyota, and excepting micromoter fired computer controlled hands (like casioak), some citizens, etc. To correctly set it, stop (hack) the watch by pulling the crown all the way out when the second hand reaches 12 o'clock. Then set the minute hand to the NEXT minute being sure to be exactly on the marker. Then, when the actual time reaches that minute, push the crown all the way in being careful to not rotate it. There you go, the minute hand is now exactly on the marker when the new minute starts. I you do this wrong, and have the minute hand in between two markers when the second hand is at 12 o'clock, you end up with what you're describing in this video. It's not so much that the watch doesn't know how to tell time as the user doesn't know how to set a watch ;)

Almost all mass machine produced movements have a little slack in the gears, so when setting it's best to go past the time slightly then backwards to the time you're setting to. This takes up the slack and prevents the minute hand alignment issue. Do you do that?

They may not have quite the same finish, but are still really nice and half the price! The same thing can happen with an automatic watch of any quality. The seconds hand is not linked to the gear train for the minutes hand. If you pull the crown out and hack the seconds hand and thirty seconds and then set the minute hand to to an index on the dial, when you start the watch again the minute hand will be between markers when the seconds hand reached 12. There is also play/slack in the gear train that can cause this, but usually not so bad that the minute hand is dead center between markers.

That's why they made digital watches for little money, or high end watches with sweeping second hand mechanical movements. That in itself wouldn't bother me, it did, I'd buy a GS Quartz with higher control. I feel this watch is more iconic as a design. and quartz accuracy in timekeeping. But for accurate reading, as mentioned above there are many other options in the digital market from Casio

Have you tried adjusting how you set the minute hand? Sometimes there’s a little play in the gears so there’s some “uptake” before they engage once you set the crown back to its first position. I’ve had this with some valjoux based chronographs, and some eta 2824 watches too. Even my Speedmaster Racing (7750 based movement) does it occasionally. It seems to be fixed by first winding the minute hand out to a few minutes ahead of true time, then slowly winding the minute hand back to true time and then engaging the crown to the first position. Maybe that helps.

The minute hand on my PRX is just fine. I recently synchronized my PRX with my Citizen Atomic Timekeeping Blue Angels watch over a week ago, and the hand alignment is just fine. I think that quartz on the PRX is the way to go as it is essentially a reissue of the 1978 Quartz Seastar. The Tissot Seastar branding has been repurposed to cover their "dive watches", so a new brand was understandable to avoid confusion. And PRX works. So having this watch in Quartz just seems natural, as the original on which it was based was also quartz. Mine has lost about 2 seconds in the last week, which is pretty good for a standard quartz movement. Anything under a +/- 15 second a month deviation is ok in my book. Complaining about Minute and or Hour Hand alignment is understandable. And I would definitely be concerned with one that routinely didn't line up the minute hand. It's when folks complain about second hand alignment, is when my blood starts to boil. Backlash and slight off centered placement of the movement is the primary cause of this, and this occurs in automatics as well. Anything with a gearing system has to have backlash, or the gears won't properly mesh, and off center placement can and will occur with thermal variations in the watch, as well as the anti shock material used to cushion the movement in the case. It's not noticeable in an automatic because an automatic second hand sweep is typically 3hz or greater, so you simply can't detect it like you can with the single 1hz "tick" of a quartz. The only way to counter this, is either through the use of mechanisms to maintain alignment like that in "The Citizen" or to utilize a movement where the stepper motor runs at 4hz or greater (as in the Bulova Precisionist) Neither option is very practical, as the "mechanism" to achieve alignment in "The Citizen" is much too expensive to be used in standard quartz movements, and to use a stepper motor that runs at 4hz or beyond really reduces effective battery life. Do you really want to be replacing your battery yearly? I love my Automatics, but I do acknowledge that Quartz is easier to live with on a daily basis, than my automatics. And to dismiss quartz because of a "flaw" that really isn't one, is ridiculous to me. So it's pretty intellectually dishonest to complain that "second hand misalignment" is a QC issue when it is common in quartz movements, and environmental issues can cause the alignment to get better or worse on a specific piece on a daily basis.

I'm late to the party but question: if you hack the watch at 60 seconds (or noon/ 12, same difference) and move the minute hand directly on top of the marker, you are saying by the time the second hand hits the next 60 that the minute hand will only have moved halfway to the next marker? My advice is pull the seconds hand off. That watch should have always been a two-hander IMO, just like the RO or PP 3600.

I have several of these in different colors; none of them have any accuracy issues. It could be a matter of quality control, and while unfortunate, it does happen, even to the bigger brands. I have a feeling he's not setting it correctly. When he hacks the watch at 12 o'clock on the second hand, the minute hand must be lined up on the markers correctly. If it is, and the crown isn't rotated when being pushed it, it will continue to be aligned. If it's not on the marker when the second hand is at 12, it will continue to be off. This seems like user error. I'm sure the watch would be 100% in my hands.

Well the gears got play between the meshing teeth, and they used steel and brass parts for the gear and pinion so.... Yeah it'll need a bit time to catch up, and it'll keep the parts last longer cz of less friction in that way, and it's still serviceable. Japanese quartz won't do these because its gears made out of plastic, there's no need for a play cz the teeth meshing plastic against plastic, supposedly would cause a high friction but it's plastic so the friction is still "lighter" compared to metal, and also you gotta throw the whole movement and install a new one if it is broken so... Unless if it's a high end watches that used LIGA tech to produce their gears which made every single teeth act like a spring so even if they were to be put in a high friction situation, the springy teeth would compensate for that and there would be no play between the teeth but it'll be about for watches that was selling in grands of dollars

I don’t buy the FUD you are pushing with the use of plastic in a watch movement. That is the same criticism people throw at the PRX Powermatic 80 with the plastic escapement. Advanced modern plastics are an excellent solution in the right application. Swiss quartz watches just can’t compete with Asian brands at this price point. The Casio Oceanus S-100 is a vastly better watch for only $75 more.

I had the same "problem" with my Seiko "Seitona" solar powered chrono. The second hand mostly hits the markers, certainly the five minute markers. This kind of watch is a fashion item, a statement if you will, much more so than just a time telling piece, and the specs and finishing overall are just great for the money. No design or craftsmanship in the affordable to mid tier to affordable luxury category will be perfect on all counts (same with European cars). So perhaps your criticism is a bit harsh on that count.

"A watch one job is to tell the time": Maybe in 1910, but since everyone has a smartphone, I think a lot of people wear watches as a fashion accessory. And the PRX does this job pretty well. Regarding the second and minute hand: some have this problem, some do not. If you have it, just send it back and get another one. IMO this video simply tries to get clicks by provocation, because the PRX is an extremely popular model to which there are already countless very positive videos. So this guy just thought: let's make a negative video to trigger people to click on it. And if you look at the other videos on his channel, you'll immediately notice that the PRX video has by far the most views. Mission accomplished...

How is it even possible for the minute hand and the seconds hand to be so unsynchronized? Which one is correct? It's almost like the seconds hand is just a decorative feature, not physically connected to the rest of the movement.

What if you back set to the correct time. So you overshoot your intended by 5 min then move the minute hand backwards to the correct time. That may engage the gears after setting. I get that there are some watches that don’t require that but I feel like there are plenty where this is an issue.

Even some Grand Seikos hign end quartz have misaligned seconds hands and a lot of omega quartz are misaligned too. These PRX quartz are an utter bargain and at half the costs of the automatic versions with better accuracy and cost free maintenance.

the eta F06 in general is a big step down from its predecessor the 955, plastic gears and less jewels. All that for saving maybe 10 dollars per movement. This is what's holding me back from buying new swatch group quartz watches. When i think swiss quartz i think of a robust movement that can be serviced IF it fails in a couple of decades. I don't even care about accurate hands. If i want a plastic quartz with only 1 or 2 jewels i'll just buy a seiko, their movements are much cheaper and perform better. If you're looking for swiss quartz look for ronda movements, they're much nicer.

I've heard too many reports of hand alignment problems that can't be fixed by hacking. Otherwise it _would_ be an attractive watch, but I don't trust this movement to work properly. Maybe I'd get one that works, but there's too much doubt in my mind. I can accept a second hand that isn't hitting the markers all the way around, but the minute hand needs to hit the bloody markers when the second hand passes 12. A watch that can't do that is junk, no matter what else it has going for it.

1) Pull the crown out when second hand is at 12. Then set the minutes and hour at the excact time and click the crown back in when it is time to do so😅 2) The second hand not aligned with the markers is because of temperature changes. The mechanical wheels expands sometimes when temperature changes and they made space between the wheels inside the watch because of that. It is actually more of a quality thing.😅 How can you diss the watch makers without knowing that? They are pretty aware of those kind of problems. If you want totally accuracy you should get a more expensive watch. They make smart engeneering tricks and technology you pay for to align those hands😅

Very odd... I grabbed a Black-Dial Quartz PRX for $280 or so, shipped to the States from an AD in the UK (had a nice sale+free 2 Day DHL shipping I couldn't pass up) less than a month after it was first released. Had already had an eye on it for quite a while before release, and loved how it fit my 7.35" wrist. So I knew about people having some issues with QC as far as the seconds hand not hitting each tick, but that was really the only issue (for those who even consider that a major issues) known at that time. I had already talked to this AD before hand and made sure the one being shipped to me didn't have that issue. It arrived just as I was promised it would, and did me GREAT in the time I wore it almost daily... Unfortunately once I was finally able to pick up my Black-Dial 41mm Oyster Perpetual for retail, so far nothing has been able to "dethrone" it as my no-nonsense daily wear... Between that, and a 40mm No-Date Sub it's been a lonely life for most of my Watches which has lead me to sell a chunk of them... Which is now all invested, in a Watch-specific fund, as I save for my next piece in a RG VC Overseas. But before that, I had the PRX on near daily... It was a stunning piece, which always looked so much better in person than it ever did in videos or pics... Fit my wrist perfectly... And got a lot of compliments/questions (many more than either of my Rolexes, for those into that kind of thing) when I wore it. I didn't have any of these accuracy issues... At all, actually. I started using an Atomic Clock App to keep time on all of my pieces around the time I got the PRX, and the thing was barely off at all in the time I had it. Now, I highly suggest when it comes to a piece like this... You buy the seller, not the Watch. Buy a seller that will actually be there for you if you run into an issue like this. A place that WILL replace it or allow a return if that's your wish... Vs some "dealer" on eBay or whatever who will just ignore you when you contact them about an issue... Thee things are all over the place, at various price points, so it's probably quite easy for some sellers to get away selling returns/pieces with QC issues without letting the buyer know anything regarding any of that... You'd just think you're getting a bit of a cut price, when in reality you're buying a Watch that was returned yet still looks new enough to re-sell. Disgusting practice imo but it definitely happens with pieces this cheap... Available at tons of places from Dept Stores, to ADs, to various Jewelry Stores, online GMDs etc.

@@watchmegobroke4365 That's fair and I respect your review completely. I was just curious if Tissot would rectify the issue. If they would, then the people wouldn't have to worry. I wasn't being critical, I was just offering an alternative course of action that I had thought maybe you already tried so you could say "yea" or "nay" to whether Tissot would stand behind their product, that's all. You see, every PRX Quartz that I've seen first-hand had perfect hand alignment so I thought that taking it back would fix it. If I were Tissot, well, I wouldn't have let them out into the wild like that to begin with because that's embarrassing to a Swiss watchmaker. Case finishing might be ok, but isn't "wow" either, the case and endlink design is bad (mind you I hate these integrated bracelet and these Genta lookalike designs), the wr is crap and not thrust worthy the dial is so-so...
