Yzerman is doing a great job PERIODTTT... it takes time for geniuses plans to manifest.. the Red Wings have improved every season since his arrival.. people who don't see it, can't understand and that's the beauty of it!.. kinda like Brad Holmes with our Detroit Lions.. people doubted him and now look at the Lions.. I've been said that Yzerman and Holmes share the same genius mindset and they take their OWN route to what they believe it is to build a winner.. and TRUST, I'm gonna go with these men before anyone else.. he knows what he's doing.. the Red Wings are on their way and I honestly wouldn't be surprised if they had a similar breakout season to the Devils last season.. but we'll see😉 #LGRW!🏒🏒🏒🔥🔥🔥

@Sir_Sydney_live When dude got there, the Red Wings were the 3rd oldest team in the league, no cap room, drowning in Ken Holland's albatross contracts like Ericsson, Abdelkader, Neilsen, DeKeyser, Helm, Kronwall, Green, Franzen, Daley and Howard, had one of the weakest prospect pools in the league. Holland gave plenty of picks away in awful trades to offload his awful contracts, busts like Pulkinen, Shehean, Kindl, Zadina etc. Yzerman came in, manage to escape from those contracts, but the proceeded to hit home run after home run in the draft, got Larkin back on a amazing deal, fleece teams in the draft, aquire a kings ransom of draft pics and prospects, and despite the bad signings of Chairot and Holl (who are placeholders for prospects like Edvinsson, Pellinka, Johansson), the Wings STILL have the most cap space in the league. Yzerplan is going amazing, I'm incredibly excited, as are almost all Red Wings fans.

Yzerman is a true student of hockey. A pure scorer, he radically changed his game to make his Red Wings winners, even if it meant his number went down radically. He understood what it took to win. He was used by the front office of the Wings in his playing days to scout international talent. He is not just crap shooting with his picks. He knows talent. He knows who can be drafted and developed farther. He knows how to shape his team with the players he drafts or trades for. Yzerman knows what talent the Wings need to succeed, and he is will to take the time to get that team. I wouldn't describe what Stevie is doing as genius. I view it as the application of a skilled craftsman from a life time of observing and learning his craft.

I wouldn't suggest Stevie Y is a genius per se. Very intelligent, but not necessarily a genius. Now OTOH, the guy he learned quite a bit from and matured incredibly under, Scotty Bowman, is absolutely 💯 a hockey genius. I think Steve has taken quite a bit of his hockey lessons under Bowman to heart. One thing he learned from Scotty is to keep an eye on the evolution of the game, and it seems to be working. Time will tell how well he stays with it, but just like my marriage I'm with the Wings for richer and poorer.

ANYONE saying the Yzerplan is a failure.. doesn't know how hockey works at all or do not understand how a rebuild works. You don't do it in a few years. Its took Yzerman 2 years to clean up the messes placed ahead of him. Then 2 more years to get amazing draft picks by getting RID of such setback players.. he has built up a better goalie tandem in 1 single year. Im sick of all these people thinking its a failure because its not a Stanley Cup yet. Let's ask Toronto how that must feel being failures for decades on that criteria. Look at how the team is compared to 4 years ago.. talent wise, money wise and skill wise. Its still going UP. Red Wings have DeBrincat now which is an improvement. AND we still have a few 1st round picks coming our way, with cap space to spare.. and it's just 4 bloody games IN! Impatient.

As someone who's a huge wings fan from detroit I have 2 comments: 1. Stevie Y has always been consistent in one message when talking to the press... He refuses to rush the rebuild and making the playoffs is not the goal in his mind. Building a team that can compete for the cup is the goal, and it will take as long as it takes. Even if we don't make the playoffs this year that's no reason to not, #trusttheyzerplan, however, I'm confident that we will. 2. We don't just draft and hope for the best. Part of why we have such strong developement is that we make sure our minor league affiliate teams are implementing the current coaching strategies and we work with the organizationa and players to guide them where we want them to be. Not only that, but we have strong competition. The staff is always making tough choices about who gets to play in the big league, and if your skills aren't up to par, someone else will claim that spot.

Both have fleeced the competition and made amazing trades and drafted amazing ELITE players to both bring the cup to their respective organizations. It would have been better to see Yzerman bring it back to Detroit, but I'm hoping to see it within the next 5 years, seeing Yzerman lift the cup again as a Detroit Red Wing just as Sakic did as an Avalanche would be poetic.

I think that the Wings fans just got so used to the team being top tier for so long, they forgot that a rebuild can take a few years to do it correctly. In the short time he’s been there he’s given hope and optimism for a franchise that had none prior. Developed Larkin, added a quality scorer in Deb, drafted a cornerstone player in seider, drafted a 6’6 goaltender in the first rounder(say what you will about cossa and comparing him to askarov, tendys can take a while to develop) built a forward core with great depth, defense is still an issue however the rise of edvinsson is coming. For every bad Justin holl contract there’s a Nate Danielson hit, and great value Daniel sprong signing.

Two things people never consider with Yzerman: 1- He has had absolutely NO lottery luck. Hey, do you think people would be such doomers about the Yzerplan is Connor Bedard was part of it? They'd be planning a Cup route right about now. Chicago is flat out garbage around Bedard and we already aren't hearing the end of their impending dynasty. 2- Yzerman inherited a black hole of talent from Ken Holland. Holland procured the oft injured and underachieving Mantha, the since departed Hronek, the decent Bertuzzi, and Larkin. That's what he left Yzerman to work with in terms of young players. On top of that he saddled him with bad contracts on worthless players. Yzerman didn't take over a rebuild, he had to start one on a team that was already in the bottom 5.

Yzerman has more than earned the right to work the Yzerplan in Detroit. Take a look at the Lightning. Yes, they're exiting their Cup window but have had the potential to win the Big Prize since what, 2015? Yes, Holland left our cupboards bare in pursuit of what? Continuing an arbitrary streak for his resume. There's some tea, Yzerman jumped for Seider more because he knew KH was super interested in doing so for the Oilers. The only way to build a perennial Contender is through the Draft. Really helps to get players to take the hometown discount to really solidify it all.

Montreal has been following Yzerman's lead in trying to rebuild their own franchise. Jeff Gorton and Kent Hughes inherited an even worse situation. And just the year before that, the Habs made the Stanley Cup Finals.

Yzerplan is a long game which is gonna build us into a Stanley cup powerhouse before Larkin is ready to retire. We’re making huge steps each season and the belief that it’s going to take years and years to complete this rebuild is starting to lose its strength. The wings this year have the potential to make the playoffs, give it a year or two and we will be going further and further in the playoffs eventually becoming serious cup contenders.

the centre position has always been the most important position. Goaltending is also very important but that doesn't mean you need a future HOF tender. I think the big change in the last 18 years was due to the cap not a change in the importance of goaltending. Cup winners have 2 of these 3; a true number 1 C, a true number 1 D, a true starting goalie in addition to depth, meaning a 7 and 8 D that should be NHL regulars. Third liners that could be 2nd liners on weaker teams. With the Cap for teams to do this they need to build through the draft not overpaying in free agency

Anyone who thinks it’s been a disaster, doesn’t understand how rebuilds work. Yzerman came in 2019 to the team with no high end talent, no top prospects and picks that Ken Holland mortgaged in previous years. Couple that with the worst draft lottery luck of any team the past 4 years, his circumstances are the worst possible, due to no fault of his own. Not even sure how a video can have this title from a YT hockey content creator. Unless it’s clickbait.
@icedo1013

It's not really clickbait. There is an audible number of fans who want nothing more than to ask this very question, and he answered it for them. Also, let's not forget that ex-players like Nielsen and Abdelkader were still on the payroll for years after he took over. He's been stymied in almost every way possible.

So far and it’s early it looks decent to good. To my eye the issue with this construction is you have alot of good to a smidge better than good players but no real breakout player. When that happens you have this issue that defensively the players do not have to overplay the “star” so it opens up other players chances. We will see. So far they seem better but once they play the better team you will have more of an idea.
